London Fashion Week announcement from British Fashion Council’s new chief executive looks set to take event beyond the central city with big plans for an industry reset to address ‘losing talent’ fears

London Fashion Week is a massive event that’s recognized across the globe with British and international designers’ clothes featuring on the glamorous catwalk. Fashion shows take place in several spots across the city, as models showcase the latest collections, but now, a shake up has been announced with plans to move some of the focus beyond central London.

The stylish event has been going since 1984 – and it’s built up a huge reputation, aligning with other huge fashion shows across the world, with Milan, Paris, New York and London being known as the “big four”. Industry professionals and fashion conscious onlookers watch the glamorous shows and fab new designs parade the catwalk – and it’s impressive – but it’s about to move to a new era.

British Fashion Council’s (BFC) new chief executive, Laura Weir, has been in the role for less than 80 days, but she’s just announced the “next British fashion era” awaits – and she wants to revitalize the fashion industry. Speaking at the BFC’s summer party at the Serpentine Pavilion in Kensington Gardens, Laura said it was time for a “reset”.

She addressed fears that London has been losing talent to Paris, Milan and Berlin, but set out her plan to prioritize British fashion’s global reputation. Laura’s plans for the fashion industry include “moving beyond central London” with a focus on “touching communities that have never touched fashion before – until now.”

In her first speech as chief executive at the BFC summer party, she said: “As I take on this role, I’m aware that the task ahead is Herculean – revitalizing a sustainable fashion economy for our British designers in the UK and globally is a long-term mission. I took this job because I care about the creative and commercial success of British fashion, and I won’t rest until my tenure has had a positive impact on its global reputation.”

Laura unveiled several strategies that will update and refresh the fashion economy, particularly for British designers. She said infrastructure is needed to support British designers so they are able to make, create and show their designs in the country – and the all important aspect of industry growth for homegrown fashion needs to be addressed, she said.

Speaking at the Serpentine Pavilion she said: “I am still shaping my strategy, and my intention is to build on the great foundations of the BFC – to put designers at the heart, to make mentoring and business skills central to our offer and to ensure our funding models result in long-term impact for the British creative economy.

“Every event and showcase we host will be intentional and magnetic and the BFC’s work internationally on behalf of our members, will mark a new era of post-Brexit cultural diplomacy.”

In a changing society, she acknowledged that fashion is “not just about shows and clothes.” Laura described fashion as giving us a “preview of society’s next chapter” adding that ‘it’s time to write a new story together’.

She spoke of the importance of sustainability, said that the BFC has secured government funding for designer scholarships – and the London Fashion Week guest program will invest more so they can welcome more international visitors to the event.

Laura also said she felt that since Brexit and Covid, “we have been sleeping on the creative British asset that quite literally touches everyone.” She added that Britain has designer creativity “in spades” and has done so for years, but that “that investment in culture leads to the commercial and reputational success of a nation.”

London Fashion Week shows will hit the catwalk this September, taking place at several key spots such as Somerset House and The Truman Brewery – other interesting spaces will be announced as a surprise giving the event a fresh concept. The fashion week runs from Thursday, September 18 until Monday, September 22 in 2025 – it’s a bi-annual event that runs again in June 2026.

A woman who visited a McDonald’s in Hawaii was left shocked by the menu differences – but it wasn’t the items on offer that left other people stunned

McDonald’s stands as one of the globe’s biggest fast food empires, boasting thousands of outlets across the world. While they’re renowned for classic menu favorites like Cheeseburgers, Big Macs and Chicken McNuggets, different nations offer their own unique twists.

Take France, for instance – pop into a McDonald’s there and you can grab a Croque McDo, a type of ham and cheese toastie. Over in Italy, meanwhile, punters can tuck into the McChicken Il Provolone.

So when one McDonald’s enthusiast popped into a Hawaiian branch, she couldn’t wait to discover how it differed from mainland America.

US TikTok content creator Ashley LaMarca was buzzing with excitement during her Hawaiian visit after hearing their menu was “kind of different” compared to the rest of the States. Scanning the unfamiliar offerings, she clocked Spam Rice and Egg for $7.39 (£5.36), Sausage Portuguese Rice for $7.39 and the Local Deluxe Platter for $8.79 (£6.46).

She was also taken back to spot Fried Apple Pie ($2.59/£1.90), explaining that Baked Apple Pie was the norm back on the mainland. She also discovered Taro Pie ($3.29/£2.42), which she eagerly popped into her basket.

Ashley decided to sample several different items to see whether they’d taste any different from their US counterparts, including a Hash brown and Sausage, Egg and Cheese McGriddle. Sampling the Local Deluxe Platter, which consisted of scrambled eggs, spam, rice and Portuguese sausage, she was taken back by how “really good” it was.

“I can’t believe I’m (eating this) at McDonald’s,” she expressed, awarding it a perfect 10 out of 10. “I am so pleasantly surprised by this,” she added.

She then moved on to the Taro Pie, filled with a sweet taro paste, and declared it was “fire”, adding: “I wish we had that,” and giving it an impressive 11 out of 10. After sampling the Fried Apple Pie, she noted that frying it made it taste “a million times better”.

As for the items she ordered to compare, she found they tasted “exactly the same”, although she speculated that the McGriddle might be of “slightly better quality” than what she was accustomed to.

However, in the comments section, it wasn’t the menu differences that caused the most shock, but rather the prices. “The prices omg,” one person exclaimed, followed by a crying emoji.

“The prices are INSANE,” chimed in another. A third commenter lamented: “Man Hawaii is so dang expensive.”

“Detecting streaky marks after using wipers is a visible sign of wear, indicating the need for replacement. By inspecting the rubber underneath for cracks or splitting, drivers can address these issues promptly, avoiding potential fines and ensuring clear visibility.

“Ageing wipers can miss parts of the windscreen during cleaning, particularly in warm weather when the material softens. Experts recommend changing older wipers for new ones, with the general guideline of replacing them every six months to a year for optimal performance.

“Squeaking noises while operating wipers can be indicative of underlying issues, potentially leading to impaired functionality. Drivers should listen for these unusual sounds as part of routine checks to ensure wipers are working properly and avoid fines for inadequate performance.

“Winter poses additional challenges, with heavy rain, ice, and snow capable of severely damaging windscreens. Experts advise investing in wiper blades designed to handle harsh and cold weather conditions, reinforcing the importance of proactive maintenance for winter driving safety.

“Regularly checking the windscreen wipers for signs of damage, including cracks or breaks in the rubber, is a fundamental practice. This proactive approach ensures that drivers are promptly aware of potential issues, allowing them to address concerns and maintain a clear, safe driving environment.

“Selecting the right wiper blades for your car is essential for optimal performance. Doing thorough research or consulting experts about suitable blades for your vehicle’s make and model ensures they fit and work efficiently, contributing to effective windshield maintenance.”

Hundreds of Android apps infected with SlopAds ad fraud malware have been removed from the Google Play store after they were downloaded over 38 million times – with users being warned to delete them

Cyber ​​criminals are once again targeting Android devices in a bid to trick unsuspecting victims into handing over their personal and financial information.

Users are being urged to remove apps that have been compromised by the fresh scam immediately, which involves hackers carrying out a sophisticated form of advertising fraud. By flooding apps with malicious adverts, hackers can slow down the devices they’ve compromised while padding their own pockets.

The fresh attack was identified by the Satori Threat Intelligence and Research Team and has been dubbed ‘SlopAds’. Researchers have found that 224 Android apps were affected by this attack, which have been downloaded more than 38 million times via the Google Play Store app.

Security specialists from the team revealed: “HUMAN’s Satori Threat Intelligence and Research Team has uncovered and disrupted a sophisticated ad fraud and click fraud operation dubbed SlopAds. The threat actors behind SlopAds operate a collection of 224 apps and growing, collectively downloaded from Google Play more than 38 million times across 228 countries and territories.

“These apps deliver their fraud payload using steganography and create hidden WebViews to navigate to threat actor-owned cashout sites, generating fraudulent ad impressions and clicks. The threat actors’ infrastructure and many of the apps share an AI theme, contributing to the name of the operation.”

It’s crucial to highlight that Google has successfully eliminated all of the problematic apps, ensuring that no fresh users will fall victim to ad fraud. Those concerned about having downloaded one of the applications containing the SlopsAds bug have been told that all those affected will receive an alert encouraging them to remove the apps, reports the Daily Record.

To safeguard against future attacks, all Android users are being advised to ensure Google’s Play Protect feature within the app store remains activated. This mechanism will alert users to potentially corrupt applications before installation, while also blocking any subsequent apps that have demonstrated behavior linked to SlopAds.

Ad fraud does not merely harm device users, but also legitimate advertisers and developers as hackers deceive the network into allowing their infected advertisements. Google added: “Ad interactions generated for the purpose of tricking an ad network into believing traffic is from authentic user interest is ad fraud, which is a form of invalid traffic.

“Ad fraud may be the byproduct of developers implementing ads in disallowed ways, such as showing hidden ads, automatically clicking ads, altering or modifying information and otherwise leveraging non-human actions (spiders, bots, etc.) or human activity designed to produce invalid ad traffic. Invalid traffic and ad fraud is harmful to advertisers, developers, and users, and leads to long-term loss of trust in the mobile Ads ecosystem.”

Android users are being advised to act swiftly and delete any apps flagged as infected to safeguard their devices.

NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has asked some City Hall employees to resign from their positions when he takes office on Jan. 1, his spokesperson confirmed to PIX11 News on Wednesday.

The New York Times reported that the resignations, which will affect 179 workers, will change staffing in political offices, including those overseen by deputy mayors.

“As is standard practice for a mayoral transition, the Mayor-elect and his transition team are working to build their City Hall plan, which includes new staff in key roles to ensure they can deliver effectively on their agenda,” a spokesperson for Mamdani told PIX11 News in a statement.

Mamdani recently announced he’s appointed more than 400 city leaders to 17 transition committees, which “will be tasked with not only making personnel recommendations but policy recommendations.”

His direct transition team includes alums of both the de Blasio and Adams administrations.

Mamdani also plans to keep NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch in her role, citing the sharp decrease in crime since she took the poison.

His chief of staff is Elle Bisgaard-Church, who managed his own primary campaign, and former first deputy mayor for de Blasio, Dean Fuleihan, will serve the same position in Mamdani’s City Hall.

Two climbers have died after falling from New Zealand’s highest peak on Aoraki, also known as Mount Cook, which is known for its brutal terrain.

They were in a group of four that was trying to climb the 3,724m-high summit. The other two were uninjured and rescued by helicopter early on Tuesday, after contacting emergency services the previous night.

Hours later they found the bodies of the dead climbers, still connected by the climbing harness. But authorities are working to recover them “in a challenging alpine environment”.

Hikes to the top of Aoraki Mount Cook, which towers over the Southern Alps running the length of the South Island, are difficult even for experienced climbers because of large crevasses and unpredictable weather.

None of the climbers have been publicly identified, but New Zealand media outlet Stuff reported that one of those killed was a well-known, internationally recognized mountain guide.

Nearly a year ago three climbers from the US and Canada disappeared on the mountain. They were eventually declared dead after a multi-day search even though their bodies were never found – authorities said the search was hampered by bad weather.

Dozens of people have died trying to make it to the summit of Aoraki Mount Cook. Hardly a climbing season goes by without at least one fatality, according to the New Zealand alpine club ClimbNZ.
