Universal Pictures has considered making multiple Fast & Furious TV shows as it has looked to expand the $7.4 billion franchise. While the Fast saga has mostly revolved around the 11 movies that have come out, it branched out to the small screen for the first time in 2019 with Netflix’s animated Fast & Furious: Spy Racerswhich ran for six seasons.
With that show about Dominic Toretto’s younger cousin (in which Vin Diesel had voice cameos) concluding in 2021, Universal has reportedly been secretly developing three different live-action TV shows set in this franchise. As revealed in Barry Hertz’s new book “Welcome To The Family,” the studio has discussed shows about Roman and Tej, young Dom, and Han over the years.
The book does not reveal who, if anyone, was attached to developing these shows, but they were envisioned as Peacock exclusives as Universal wanted to “bulk up the catalog” of the streaming “as it struggled to survive the raging streaming wars.” It’s unclear if Universal is still actively working on the concepts or if they’ve been scrapped entirely.
The Roman and Tej show was only described in the book as a “standalone show.” It’s unknown if Tyrese Gibson or Ludacris were ever involved in these early discussions and approached about returning for leading roles.
The young Dom show would’ve continued the flashback timeline seen in F9 and chronicled the franchise lead’s life up until the beginning of The Fast and the Furious. The book notes that it would’ve starred Vinnie Bennett, who played a younger Dom in F9‘s flashbacks.
It’s unconfirmed if Bennett did or does have a deal to return for said series. Additionally, it’s not specified if F9‘s other younger cast members — Azia Dinea Hale’s Letty, Siena Agudong’s Mia, Karson Kern’s Vince, and Igby Rigney’s Jesse — would return or if those roles would’ve been recast.
Of the three Fast & Furious shows Universal considered, “Welcome To The Family” reveals that the Han-focused show made it the farthest along. Here’s what the book says about its development and plot:
But the most intense development work revolved around a Han series, which would use Diesel’s short film Los Bandoleros as the foundation of a story in which Han comes up against two warring drug cartels. It was conceived as a Yojimbo-like tale that would bring in the character of Cara, Han’s onetime lover, who had helped hijack the land train in Fast 4. The producers were looking at going back to Puerto Rico to shoot, but then the series idea stalled.
Sung Kang would presumably have returned to play Han in this series, unless a recast was planned. While the show would’ve built on Los Banderlos and Fast & Furiousit isn’t specified if it would have been a prequel show set before Han’s return F9 or take place afterwards.
Neither Universal nor anyone associated with the Fast & Furious franchise has ever discussed these concepts in public, making the revelation that they were (and might still be) in development quite surprising.
The Fast & Furious movies are synonymous with big-budget moviemaking, and a TV show would have to deliver the same level of thrill to meet audiences’ expectations. But, the brand is also big enough that it makes sense for Universal to have kicked the tires on how this saga could improve its streaming service.
Whether any of these shows ever materialize remains to be seen, as Universal may be waiting until the dust settles on Fast 11 before it determines how or if to expand things further. But now that these Fast & Furious TV shows are known ideas floating around, perhaps they’ll gain steam at last.

The Rookie‘s upcoming spinoff is officially happening at ABC after receiving a pilot order and revealing its lead star. Created by Alexi Hawley, The Rookie is a police procedural show that has been a major hit for the network. The spinoff, which is also created by Hawley, is titled The Rookie: North.
ABC has now announced that it has picked up The Rookie: North‘s pilot episode, with Running Point and All Her Fault star Jay Ellis cast in the main role. Along with being the spinoff’s creator, Hawley is also the director, writer, and an executive producer of the pilot episode. Original series star Nathan Fillion will be another executive producer, and Ellis is also attached to produce.
The Rookie: North‘s story is similar to the main series, with Ellis playing Alex Holland, a middle-aged man who joins his local police force and is the oldest rookie among his peers. Check out the official logline for the series below:
Alex Holland (Ellis) believed his mid-life wasn’t worthy of a crisis. But after a violent home invasion ignites a dormant purpose, Alex battles a lifetime of failed commitments by joining the Pierce County Police Department as its oldest rookie. Policing from the urban coast to the rural forest where backup isn’t just 5 minutes away, Alex must prove to his skeptical training officer, his fellow rookies, and himself, that he’s finally found something worthy of the fight.
Finalizing Ellis’ deal reportedly came with some scheduling challenges due to the steadily expanding number of projects that he stars in. Along with a recurring role in Running Point season 2, the Insecure and Top Gun: Maverick star will be a series regular for the Hulu comedy show Not Suitable for Work. The final deal ensures that if The Rookie: North pilot is followed by a full series order, he will be able to do the spinoff and the Hulu comedy.
Jay Ellis in uniform and in a cockpit in Top Gun: Maverick
In September, Hawley gave a Rookie: North filming update, sharing that the plan was to film the pilot in the late winter or spring of 2026. With ABC now having picked up the pilot and the main star cast, the spinoff is seemingly on track for this production start date.
A full series order would make this the second spinoff in the police procedural franchise, following The Rookie: Feds being canceled after one season in 2023. The Rookie: Feds was co-created by Hawley and starred Niecy Nash-Betts and Frankie Faison.
Before the new spinoff, The Rookie season 8 will make its ABC debut on January 6. This premiere date ensures that the popular series avoids the mid-season hiatus that many network shows go through and will have minimal interruptions with its weekly release schedule.
The Rookie season 7’s unanswered questions are poised to be addressed in the fast-approaching season 8 premiere, but the stories of John Nolan (Fillion), Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neill), are not the only way that the franchise can explore now that The Rookie spinoff’s pilot is moving forward.

Many of Taylor Sheridan’s shows find their debut seasons on the rockier side as they find their footing, but Landman was such a welcome change of pace. The exploration of the West Texas oil business through the lens of Billy Bob Thornton’s stretched-thin industry veteran, Tommy Norris, was the funniest of Sheridan’s lineup, even as it mixed in some genuine stakes for its characters.
Landman season 1 wasn’t perfect, either. The hypersexualization of Tommy’s 17-year-old daughter Ainsley, played by 1923 own Michelle Randolph, was increasingly off-putting as the season progressed, while Ali Larter’s Angela Norris, Tommy’s on-again/off-again wife, too often felt like an over-the-top version of a Texas-set Real Housewives cast member. One of the biggest sins was having a killer performer like Demi Moore relegated to less than a full episode’s worth of screentime and minimal dialogue.
Coming into Landman season 2, the story thread lingering from season 1 certainly paved the way for some improvements in its storytelling and characters. In the wake of the death of Jon Hamm’s Monty, Moore’s Cami Miller finds herself in a bigger position of power, while Ainsley graduating from high school means her more mature storylines would feel a little easier to invest in.
From the jump, though, season 2 finds itself on rocky ground (at least based on the first two episodes provided for review). Moore’s larger role definitely comes as a welcome change from the show’s first season, but many other characters are either stuck in the same tired storylines, or going backwards in a way that makes this outing a mixed bag.
Demi Moore Finally Has An Actual Role In Landman Season 2
stills from Landman season 1
Moore’s so-called “role” in season 1 came at an interesting point for her as she kicked off her onscreen acting resurgence that same year with Ryan Murphy’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans and continued with Sheridan’s series and her Oscar-nominated turn in The Substance. Unlike these other roles, Cami might as well have been arm candy for Hamm’s character, with her most involved work being her worry about Monty’s declining health.
While it’s unclear if Sheridan always intended a proper arc for her this season, or learned from season 1 critiques, it is nevertheless such a refreshing change to see Moore get a proper spotlight in Landman season 2. We get a better sense of her self-reliance and ruthless business acumen as she faces a banquet room full of bankers ready to pounce on her company in the wake of Monty’s debts and death, delivering a speech eviscerating them and the young women who tried to emotionally tear her down moments before.
Even as the first couple of episodes keep Thornton in the spotlight and establish what he and his family’s latest string of conflicts are, Sheridan never fully lets Moore’s presence be forgotten, nor does he let her be the atypical grieving widow. While we certainly get glimpses of her continued heartbreak and struggle to process Monty’s death, she doesn’t rest on her laurels as she immerses herself in the company in fascinating ways.
Sheridan Forgot Women Don’t Have To Be Nagging Worrywarts?
Despite all the steps to improve Moore’s character this season, one area that Sheridan and his writing team have chosen to unfortunately double down on is how inconsequential many of the other female characters are in season 2. One thing that wowed me about Yellowstone‘s five-season run was just how well-rounded its female characters were, even beyond Kelly Reilly’s Beth, never solely serving as a victim or antagonist to their male counterparts.
A few of Landman‘s key female characters in season 1 weren’t given all that much to do, making the show feel like a very machismo-driven effort, apart from Paulina Chavez’s Ariana and Kayla Wallace’s Rebecca. Coming into season 2, the latter continues to prove a firm contender for the men, holding her own in everything from litigation meetings in which she’s unfamiliar with the territory, or phone calls in which she’s condescended to by those around her, with Wallace bringing a sharp wit and presence to every scene.
For Ariana, though, she’s undergone something of a character assassination in the gap between seasons 1 and 2. Chavez continues to give a compassionate performance for her widowed single mother, but, without getting into spoilers, her and Cooper’s relationship has taken an unexpected turn since we last saw them; it feels too jarring and is more telling than showing.
Exploding into a stereotypical dinner-disrupting fight, followed by sexual reconciling, it feels like Sheridan has no interest in allowing Angela to grow…
Ali Larter’s Angela, however, remains a problem in the way she’s written. That’s not to say she’s not playing the role well, as it’s really Larter’s performance that keeps Angela from feeling like a character who needs to be cut out right away. And yet, even with everything that happened in season 1, and the little bit of growth she showcased, all of it has been thrown out, as the writing has regressed her to a nagging trophy wife caricature.
The fact that so much of the first episode is about her and Tommy’s disagreement about needing a realtor to look for a place in Fort Worth to live near Ainsley as she attends college feels so misogynistic in the way it plays out. Tommy not only fails to come up with any justified reason why they shouldn’t move, but also complains to anyone who will listen that she’s simply on her menstrual cycle, and therefore should just wait it out for her to change her mind about moving.
Exploding into a stereotypical dinner-disrupting fight, followed by sexual reconciling, Sheridan seems to not only have no interest in allowing Angela to grow, but is content with making his male characters the more emotionally level-headed ones of the series. No more evident is that than in Angela’s retort to Tommy’s concept of skipping the “crazy“and going right to sex, pondering”Where’s the fun in that?“I couldn’t agree less, nor toxicity isn’t needed for a relationship to be fun.
Season 2’s New Characters Make For Some Solid Worldbuilding
While the first two episodes provided didn’t quite capture me the way season 1 did, season 2 has at least laid out some interesting paths forward with the introductions of a few new characters. Sam Elliott, already a Sheridan himself after being one of the leads in the Yellowstone prequel 1883joins this season as Tommy’s estranged father, who lives in an assisted living facility.
Much of the first two episodes fail to necessarily establish any genuine emotional stakes for its characters until Elliott shows up onscreen, pondering the way he’s lived his life as he’s given some heartrending news that further hammers home his existential quandary. The Oscar nominee brings such a fascinating depth to his heartbreak that it made him all the more compelling to watch, and left me eager to see more of him and Tommy together.
Although not technically a new character, Andy Garcia is a welcome new player. Having made a cameo appearance in the season 1 finale to set up bigger things between his character, Gallino, and Tommy, he proves a menacing presence this time around, particularly as he gets more deeply involved in business with someone else close to Tommy, creating a real range of stakes for Thornton’s character going into the rest of the season.
Landman season 2 premieres on Paramount+ on November 16.

Pros & Cons
The new characters create some exciting new conflicts for Tommy and co.
Demi Moore gets a much better and more well-rounded role this season.
Much of the humor remains effective.
Many of the female characters continue to lack growth or better characterizations.
Ali Larter’s Angela, in particular, is an atrocious trophy wife caricature.
Over the past few years, anime has gotten bigger than ever, and one director has recently proven that certain series have become major inspirations for Hollywood blockbusters. My Hero Academia,in particular, has cemented himself as an all-time great, so there’s no surprise that it could influence action-packed films in America.
There are more amazing action movies in America than anyone can count, and the same can be said about top-tier shōnen hits. From series like One Piece and Dragon Ball to some of the most exciting shōnen series of the modern-day, like Chainsaw Man and Demon Slayerthe genre has proven that it’s not letting up any time soon.
Anime is here to stay, and if Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has proven anything, it’s that the art form will be seeing a lot of success in movie theaters as well. This director has also proven that anime also has a lot of influence off-screen too.
My Hero Academia Is One of the Best Shōnen Series in Years
The Past Few Seasons Have Been Exceptional
Custom Image by Megan Peters
My Hero Academia was always going to be a quality series, but the final seasons have truly cemented it as one of the best of all time. Each of the franchise’s major storylines have come together masterfully, creating an emotionally cathartic ending better than most expected.
While the series isn’t without its flaws, it’s incredibly impressive how so many characters can feel significant at once. Most anime series only feature great fights between the main protagonist and antagonist, by My Hero Academia has tons of amazing fights, including several great characters.
The best fight in the entire franchise might not involve Deku whatsoever, showing just how much range My Hero Academia brings to the table. The series is so good that one notable Hollywood star couldn’t help but let it inspire him when he was directing his first film.

Michael B. Jordan Talked About How Influential Anime Is in a Recent Interview
My Hero Academia’s Bakugo has his mouth open wide in rage.Custom image created by Evan D. Mullicane
Michael B. Jordan is one of the biggest names in Hollywood, and during a recent interview with Vanity Fair, he cited anime as a major influence on his works. He stated that in his directorial debut, directing Creed III, he wanted to capture anime’s larger than life feeling.
“There were a lot of fight moments that I’ve seen throughout the anime that I was like, ‘okay, cool, it’d be great if I could actually incorporate or get this feeling of this sequence or how do you achieve this in animation that feels so supernatural?’ How can you put that in a different media?” – Michael B. Jordan.
Michael B. Jordan is no stranger to success in action movies. He’s a phenomenal villain in Black Panther, a great boxer in the Creed franchise, and did well as the Human Torch in The Fantastic Four.
Anime is bigger than ever, and it’s refreshing to see that prominent players in Hollywood like Michael B. Jordan are giving it the credit it’s due. Jordan speaks highly of anime, and it’s easy to see that he’s in love with the art form. Who knows, maybe he’ll get the chance to perform in a live-action My Hero Academiamovie one day.
Movie(s)
My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (2018), My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising (2019), My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission (2021)
There’s no denying it. Rock is having a long-overdue new moment. It’s the moment we’ve been craving since Napster and music-stealing just about bankrupted the band biz in ’02. To be clear, the rock resurgence is not happening because the genre changed, but because fans are finally digging deeper again. Between this year’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame buzz, a wave of anniversary reissues, and TikTok resurrecting forgotten deep cuts like they’re brand-new releases, listeners are going back into the vault.
Pull out the vinyl and weird import pressings from the ’90s and 2000s and you’re reminded of something playlists will never understand: rock albums used to stash entire secret worlds between the seams. These were not tossed-off experiments or deluxe-edition padding (Taylor invented a whole economy around that). These were love notes scribbled under desks and passed around to the diehards, the songs real fan still talk about while everyone else pretends they knew them all along.
Green Day – “All by Myself” (Dookie Hidden Track)
Three Cool ends Dookiewith a full-blown masturbation confession about getting “busy” in someone else’s house, and it’s still one of the most absurdly perfect hidden rock moments of the ’90s. It’s crude and disarmingly honest, the kind of unfiltered nonsense no band would bury on an album today. If you listened to Dookie end-to-end as a kid, this was the moment you realized Green Day’s sense of humor didn’t stop at the singles.
Nirvana – “Gallons of Rubbing Alcohol Flow Through the Strip” (In Utero International Bonus)
Depending on where you bought In Utero, you either grew up with this spiraling-out sprawl or didn’t know it existed at all. It’s hypnotic because it’s so messy. This captures Nirvana’s volatility in real time, like someone left the tape rolling during a breakdown. It’s the kind of track major labels would never sign off on now, which is exactly why fans treat it like a secret handshake.
Pearl Jam – “Master/Slave” (Ten Hidden Bookend Track)
Pearl Jam’s debut hides one of its moodiest moments inside the opening and closing static of Ten. “Master/Slave” is a dark, instrumental groove that feels completely separate from the album’s big sing-along anthems. It’s eerie, hypnotic, and sets a tone you don’t fully process until you hear it again at the end. Pearl Jam always kept some of their best work close. This one feels more than most like a real message to the diehards. Pearl Jam is your friend, we got you.
Smashing Pumpkins – “Infinite Sadness” (Mellon Collie Hidden Piano Outro)
After two discs of sprawling, emotional mayhem, Billy Corgan ends Mellon Collie with a short, gorgeous piano piece you only find if you let the album keep running. It’s delicate, showing us that hidden tracks didn’t always have to be jokes or snippets of oddball outtakes. Sometimes they were the breath the album needed, even if listeners only stumbled onto it by accident. The irony is once you reach the accidental stumble, you realize it was entirely intentional. An ultimate “aha!” lightbulb moment.
Foo Fighters – “Fraternity” (The Color And The Shape Hidden Track)
Dave Grohl’s band was still shaping its identity when this scrappy, almost hidden demo track showed up on early pressings. It’s messy and its loud, I mean LOUD. It feels like a garage door half-open at 3 am that simply refuses to stop grinding and churning out noise. Dave Grohl fans swear by it because it’s pure, early-era energy. The sound of a band still hungry and experimenting, still messing around because nobody told them not to. And if anyone did tell them, they were never going to listen. The fans thank them for that to this day. Damn the torpedoes.
Radiohead – “Talk Show Host” (OK Computer Wind B-side)
A slinky, brooding deep cut that somehow didn’t make it OK Computerdespite feeling like it belongs in the same airspace. Fans worship this track for good reason: it’s atmospheric, cinematic, and arguably better than some of the album’s actual singles. Hidden gems don’t get much more essential than this. And to prove it: go back and check out Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 adaptation of Romeo + Juliet. Leonardo DiCaprio, on screen, soundtracked by this tune is the epitome of swoonworthy broodiness.
Alice in Chains – “Killer Is Me” (MTV Unplugged Hidden Track)
Most people think of the Unplugged session as a flawless acoustic monument. But the hidden track “Killer Is Me” is where Alice in Chains slips into something darker. It’s raw and shows the band pivoting into a grittier, more experimental direction. It’s the kind of song you only discover if you let the performance keep going long after the fifth encore.
REM – “New Orleans Instrumental No. 2” (Automatic for the People hidden piece)
I swear, I could NOT find this tune on Spotify, so there’s that.REM buried this ghostly instrumental deep in the album’s back halfand it still feels like a secret message from a band that loved misdirection. It adds a strange, dreamy texture to an already emotional record. Exactly the type of lost fragment modern fans are rediscovering through reissues. Sometimes, it’s the rediscovery that can be the very best part of music.
Mary Berry has shared a plethora of breakfast recipes throughout her career, including this French toast one, which can be made in four simple steps
13:13, 13 Oct 2025Updated 14:19, 13 Oct 2025
French toast is a beloved breakfast dish created by dipping bread slices in a blend of whisked eggs and milk. It’s frequently prepared using day-old bread that might otherwise be discarded.
Mary Berry has revealed numerous breakfast recipes during her culinary journey, including this French toast version, which requires just four straightforward steps. The recipe description on BBC Food stated: “Use whatever staple white bread you have in the bread bin for this fabulous French toast. It makes a brilliant weekend brunch drenched in honey with fresh berries.”
Ingredients (to serve two)
Two free-range eggs, according to that the Express.
One teaspoon of golden caster sugar.
Pinch of salt.
Pinch of ground cinnamon.
Half a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
125 ml of milk.
White bread.
Butter, for frying.
To serve:
Honey.
Maple syrup.
Fruits, including berries.
Method
Begin by whisking the eggs together and incorporating the sugar, salt, cinnamon, vanilla and milk until well combined. Immerse the bread slices into the mixture and allow them to absorb the liquid on both sides for several seconds.
Heat butter in a frying pan over medium temperature. Once the butter has melted, place the bread into the pan. Cook on both sides until they turn golden brown, then serve with your preferred accompaniments. I presented mine with maple syrup, icing sugar, and some kiwi alongside.
The French toast tastes absolutely divine. The golden caster sugar produces a delightful caramel flavor, while the cinnamon and vanilla contribute a marvelous sweetness. I adore its simplicity in preparation, its high degree of customization, and the fact that it can be savored with berries, streaky bacon or just as it is.
