  • HBO Max’s Dangerous Liaisons Adaptation Is Steamy But Lacking In Substance

HBO Max’s Dangerous Liaisons Adaptation Is Steamy But Lacking In Substance

Dangerous Liaisons is considered one of the best period romantic dramas that deals in seduction and sexual situations as means for attaining power and revenge. Both the original 1782 French novel and the 1988 American romantic drama film showcase the twisted workings of French nobility before the French Revolution. Going into The SeductionI had high hopes that the latest adaptation would deliver on the same promising elements of its predecessors.

The six-episode miniseries takes some liberties with the story, twisting elements to create a fresh yet familiar narrative. In this rendition of the story, Isabelle de Merteuil (Anamaria Vartolomei) is betrayed by her lover, Vicomte de Valmont (Vincent Lacoste), whom she believed truly loved and wanted to marry her. Under the guidance of one Madame de Volanges (Sandrine Blancke), she begins seducing her way up the ladder on a quest to become Paris’s highest-ranking courtesan.

The Seduction takes a page out of erotic romance dramas in its steamy depictions, unafraid to lay bare its characters in the throes of lustful passion for power. Yet as the series goes on, the eroticism and power plays start to drag. While this is elevated by some captivating performances and cinematography, it’s marred by a rather circular narrative that doesn’t live up to the themes it’s trying to explore.

The Seduction Subverts Expectations Of What Empowerment Can Be

Gercourt looking serious in The Seduction
Gercourt looking serious in The Seduction

A key component the show keeps circling back to the idea of women becoming empowered by how they use their sexuality to climb the social ladder. The series makes it a point to emphasize how, at this time in France, women were seen as beneath men. This is exhibited through how women in the show are sexualized, but also how they use it to their advantage to attain more power.

It makes the romantic drama series feel unique because, overall, the object is not seduction for the sake of love. It’s a tool for survival, something the series illustrates time and again. Watching the events unfold, we’re supposed to gain a message of empowerment from the show, even though there was a deeper meaning to Isabelle’s suffering that would come from watching her schemes unfold.

However, the presentation did not feel empowering for its female characters. Much of the scheming that Isabelle and others participate in often feels centered around the notion of sex being the only commodity of power that matters. While it makes sense within the story’s confines, it also makes some of its female characters feel like they don’t truly have any agency. It’s a fight for survival, and one that felt more difficult than it did triumphant.

This was unfortunately exacerbated by several storylines and characters whose additions weren’t as compelling as they could have been. One such example is Madame de Tourvel, who, despite being expertly brought to life by Noée Abita, lacks a unique presence that contrasts her with Isabelle or any other woman. The same can be said about most characters in the show.

For instance, I didn’t feel much for the ever-boiling conflict between Valmont and Comte de Gercourt (Lucas Bravo) because their identities weren’t unique. It’s an identity issue that permeates the whole show, and one that makes it hard to feel anything for the majority of characters. It doesn’t help that some, like Isabelle, have heel-turns instead of experience arcs, lessening the effect of major events in later episodes.

Despite Its Flaws, The Seduction Is Well-Crafted On A Technical Level

Isabelle and Valmont kissing in The Seduction
Isabelle and Valmont kissing in The Seduction

Although I wasn’t thrilled with how the show’s story and characters were put together, there’s no denying The Seduction works from a filmmaking standpoint. The show never lets up on the pacing, and despite some parts of the series being empty, none of the episodes felt pointless. It helps that everything is framed and shot in a cinematic way, offering the illusion of a six-hour movie instead of a miniseries.

The steamier scenes are well-crafted, too. While occasionally lingering for longer than necessary, the sex scenes in The Seduction sensibly portray how lust emphasizes an exchange of power. But there’s also some complexity to it as well, with the pleasure of the act given time to ruminate. It’s not always balanced, but the portrayal of these sequences is serviceable when it’s most important.

The only unfortunate aspect of these positives is that, without a strong story and characters to back them up, they’re more like visual fluff than meaningful symbolism. While the performances and filmmaking alone make for some powerful moments filled with lust and revenge, the overarching narrative just doesn’t have the bite something based on Dangerous Liaisons should carry.

The Seduction may be of interest to those familiar with the original story or its 1980s film adaptation who wish to see it reimagined for the small screen. But, given the visual flair and strong performances from all its stars, the show still had several redeemable qualities. However, they couldn’t overshadow what felt like a lack of meat on the bone for its story, which could have been so much more powerful than it was.

The Seduction begins Friday, November 14 on HBO Max, and will release episodes weekly on the platform.

    • Visual flair feels meaningless due to a story lacking in substance.
    • Characters are interchangeable in personality, making events sluggish and unremarkable.

  • New FREE Game That Blends Animal Crossing & MySims

New FREE Game That Blends Animal Crossing & MySims

Animal Crossing fans who are waiting for any news of the next game might have a new title coming that’ll fill that cozy-island-living-shaped hole in their hearts. Heartopia is a cozy game in the style of Animal Crossing and MySims from developer XD International that’s scheduled to release sometime in 2026.

The development and publishing company has previously worked on successful titles like Go!Go!Muffin, a mobile version of the classic MMO Ragnarok Online, Torchlight: Infiniteand many others. Now, the studio is turning its attention to the cozy gaming community with the adorable upcoming game, Heartopia.

Heartopia Looks Adorable, And It’s Completely Free

Explore A Cute World At Your Leisure

Heartopia screenshot of friends enjoying a picnic together

Heartopia is an ultra-stylized, cute game with a strong emphasis on self-expression without limits. The game will apparently include absolutely no stamina systems or daily checklists, giving players the freedom to interact with the world however they want.

The title will have several hobbies to try, including classics like fishing, cooking, and gardening, and some more unusual options like birdwatching and caring for cats. However, players can also completely ignore all those and simply hang out with friends or enjoy the cute environments and critters.

A robust customization system will allow players to make every part of their little house their own, down to the bricks and furniture, and over 1,000 clothing items will ensure they do it in style. Best of all, Heartopia will be completely free to play.

The upcoming game adopts and expands on the style of MySims to look and feel even more whimsical. Its rounded, large-eyed style is accompanied by some stunning environments that promise no loading times and open-world exploration at the players’ whims.

    The MySims Vibes Are Strong

    A Cozy, Free-To-Play MMO

Heartopia characters posing in a row

Heartopia ran a beta earlier this month, and player reactions have been mostly positive. The game seems to deliver the peaceful, charming vibes that it promises, with many fans praising it for its cute style and relaxing nature. Beta players report having lots of fun with the game, especially with the multiplayer options.

There are countless screenshots shared to the Heartopia X account from testers like zivly4 on X that show off the beautiful world and players hanging out with friends in their personalized spaces.

Some members of the cozy community have voiced concerns about the monetization of this title when it launches. Since the game will be free, and XD International has plenty of experience with mobile games and mobile-style microtransactions, some worry about what this means for how the company will make money from Heartopia.

Other beta players report that the hobbies will use an energy and tool durability system, which seems to contradict the “no stamina bars” claim. Still, the system is reportedly not limiting and does not detract from the fun and freedom of the overall gameplay.

As of right now, it seems that Heartopia is gearing up to be an excellent free Animal Crossing alternative with some very strong MySims vibes. Another beta is scheduled for December, and the game itself will launch in early 2026.

  • One-Punch Man Season 3 Has Officially Hit Rock Bottom

One-Punch Man Season 3 Has Officially Hit Rock Bottom

As any anime fan would know by now, One-Punch Man Season 3 has been having a really poor showing. However, this week, the anime sank to a new low with censorship and more animation mistakes, mainly surrounding the fan-favorite character, Captain Mizuki.

Fans had been waiting to see Captain Mizuki in action for years. While they knew the production quality for the series was really low, they expected the character to receive some limelight.

Unfortunately, the anime staff not only censored her outfit, but also gave her an extra finger during her big fight scene. Not to forget, the anime’s latest episode hit rock bottom with a 30-second-long single-frame scene.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Censored Captain Mizuki’s Outfit

Captain Mizuki as seen in One-Punch Man Season 3

One-Punch Man Season 3 is riddled with mistakes. However, the anime’s latest episode, One-Punch Man Season 3 Episode 7, titled “Counterstrike,” left fans with more questions than ever.

For starters, One-Punch Man fans had been waiting for Captain Mizuki to appear in the anime for a really long time. While she first appeared in the previous episode, her big fight scene was supposed to take place in this week’s episode. As such, fans expected JCStaff to do her justice. Instead, the anime’s staff censored her outfit.

Even manga readers will know, Captain Mizuki is known to wear track briefs. However, the anime censored it, turning her briefs into shorts. While that is truly not an issue, the anime’s opening theme song video showed her wearing the track briefs in the first two episodes, but later censored them to show her wearing track shorts.

Similarly, while the hero can be seen wearing her track shorts for the majority of the latest episode, she is seen donning her track briefs in one scene at 17 minutes and 36 seconds. The question is, did the anime’s staff not finalize her character design before animating her? Is that why they missed out on censoring her outfit in the first two episodes and that one scene in the latest episode?

One-Punch Man Fans Are Keeping a Close Eye on Season 3 Mistakes

While the mistakes with Captain Mizuki’s outfit may have been something that arose due to late decision-making, it does not justify the animation problems that were featured in the latest episode.

Captain Mizuki was supposed to have her big fight in the latest episode. As such, fans expected the anime to feature some decent animation. However, at 9 minutes 56 seconds, just as Captain Mizuki prepared for her “First Event: Pole Vault,” the anime showed her with six fingers on her right hand instead of five.

To be fair, this scene was really fast and the moment passed by in an instant. Nevertheless, fans managed to catch it. This meant that they were no longer going to accept the poor production quality and were prepared to find and criticize all animation errors.

However, the criticism didn’t stop just there, as fans noted how the anime episode’s final moments used a single frame of the support team for a 30-second-long scene by panning the camera from top to bottom. As such, with such animation mistakes and tricks to save production budget, One-Punch Man has now officially hit rock bottom.

How to Watch, Stream, and What to Expect

The 59th Annual CMA Awards air tonight, Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 8 pm ETlive from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. The show will broadcast on ABCwith next-day streaming available on Hulu for anyone who wants to catch the biggest wins, speeches and performances after the fact. With country music in one of its strongest commercial eras in decades, this year’s ceremony is expected to draw one of the genre’s largest global audiences yet.

The CMAs are arriving at a moment when country is expanding faster than Nashville’s traditional playbook can keep up. Streaming has pushed the genre far outside the South, breakout stars are finding fame on TikTok before radio, and crossover acts continue to blend country with pop, soul and Americana. The 59th ceremony is shaping up to be a snapshot of that entire evolution.

How To Watch Or Stream The 2025 CMA Awards

The live broadcast begins at 8 pm ET on ABC. Viewers can tune in through any standard cable package, digital TV provider or live-TV streaming bundle that includes ABC, such as Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, FuboTV and DirecTV Stream. For fans outside the US, international streaming availability varies by regionbut local affiliates or network apps typically provide access.

Hulu remains the exclusive next-day streaming home for the CMA Awards. The full show will be available to stream on Thursday morningallowing fans to re-watch performances, acceptance speeches, red-carpet arrivals and any viral moments that dominated social media during the broadcast. For cord-cutters, this window is key. Award shows have struggled to maintain live viewership, but the CMAs continue to perform strongly in streaming thanks to high-profile performances and the genre’s growing international reach.

Presenters, Performers & What To Expect

Host Lainey Wilson returns for the second year, anchoring the show from the Bridgestone Arena stage. Performers announced so far include Luke Combs, Ella Langley, Megan Moroney, Kelsea Ballerini, Brandi Carlile, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Patty Loveless, Old Dominion, The Red Clay Strays, Stephen Wilson Jr., Tucker Wetmore, Shaboozey, Zach Top, Little Big Town and Keith Urban. Presenters and special guests span a wide cultural cross-section: Billy Ray Cyrus, Elizabeth HurleyLady A, Jessica Capshaw, Lauren Daigle, Steve Martin, LeAnn RimesNe-Yo, Chris O’Donnell, Alan Ritchson, Lara Spencer and Bert Kreischer, among others. Vince Gill will be honored with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award during the show.

This year’s CMAs feature several marquee categories stacked with heavy hitters. Entertainer of the Year includes Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and Lainey Wilson. Album of the Year features Post Malone’s F-1 TrillionMorgan Wallen’s I’m the ProblemLainey Wilson’s WhirlwindZach Top’s Cold Beer & Country Music and Megan Moroney’s Am I OK? Performances are expected to be one of the night’s biggest draws. With country music’s streaming and international boom, this year’s lineup is expected to reflect that expanded audience and blur the lines between genres. Nashville’s old gatekeeping systems are cracking, and the CMAs are one of the few places where the past and future collide live on stage. Whether you’re tuned in for the showmanship, the speeches or the inevitable viral moments, the 2025 CMA Awards are the clearest window into a genre that refuses to stay in one lane.

  • Rid coffee and tea stains from kitchen worktops by using 1 ingredient

Rid coffee and tea stains from kitchen worktops by using 1 ingredient

A cleaning hack has been shared to help get your kitchen worktops “extra shiny”, and you only need one product to banish stains and remove pesky tea and coffee marks

When it comes to sprucing up the kitchen, it can be one of the most challenging rooms to tackle, as burnt food can cause problems in all sorts of places. Worktops, dishes and appliances get smothered with grease, water and grime, which means we’re always on the hunt for clever hacks to make them sparkle.

But, when it comes to kitchen worktops, it seems all you need is one simple product to make them absolutely spotless. Cleaning whizz, Tanya, has revealed a straightforward method to give your countertops an “extra shine”, using just one product that’s probably already in your cupboard. Known as tanya_cleanhome on TikTok, she shared how you can achieve brilliant results by following a few easy steps.

First off, if you’re looking to banish stains like coffee and tea, you’ll need to pre-treat them. She concocts a mixture of bicarbonate of soda, washing-up liquid and water, blending the ingredients together, and then she applies it to the stained areas and lets the mixture soak in to lift the stains.

When it comes to cleaning, Tanya uses washing-up liquid and water, but she doesn’t go overboard with the amount of soap she adds. She uses this mixture to wipe and scrub down her worktops.

Once that’s done, she then grabs a microfiber cloth to dry the surfaces. She emphasized the importance of ensuring all the soap is removed, and she finishes off the job by using a glass cleaning cloth too.

Content cannot be displayed without consent

After she’s finished, her countertops look absolutely spotless. You can also see there’s a lovely shine to them too, which inspired viewers to give it a go.

One person remarked: “Wow. Ok, I need to try this.” Others questioned whether the method works on every type of worktop, or if certain surfaces should be avoided.

For anyone wondering the same thing, baking soda is not suitable for all countertops as its slightly abrasive nature can scratch natural stone surfaces such as granite and marble. Its alkaline properties can also potentially damage certain wood finishes.

Generally, it’s deemed safe for more durable surfaces such as laminate, stainless steel and ceramic, but should be applied sparingly and with care. This guidance should be followed if you’re considering giving the method a go.

That said, there are several compelling reasons to try this cleaning approach if your surface allows. It can perform remarkably well at lifting certain stains.

How does baking soda work to lift stains?

What you might not realize is that baking soda tackles stains through multiple mechanisms. It functions through its gentle abrasive quality, its alkaline composition that counteracts acidic marks and its absorbent characteristics that help draw out stains.

It can decompose the acidic elements found in numerous stains, including those from wine, coffee or tomato sauce. It can serve as a soft scouring agent to remove dirt, or you can combine it with water to create a paste that extracts stains as it sets.

If you’re keen to use the product for stain removal, all you need to do is create a paste with water and let it sit for a bit before wiping it clean. For more stubborn stains, simply cover the paste with cling film and leave it overnight before rinsing.

However, before you dive in, it’s crucial to test the solution on a hidden area first to ensure the paste doesn’t harm the surface. Ideally, let it soak for 10 to 15 minutes before gently wiping it away to see the best results.

This type is definitely worth noting, with the product costing as little as 65p. This makes it an incredibly cost-effective way to eliminate stains around the house.

‘Scariest and most intelligent’ horror adaptation you can stream free for a limited time

As Halloween nears, a number of horror options are being added to various streaming services – including some hidden gems available to watch for free.

A horror adaptation that has been dubbed one of the ‘scariest and most intelligent’ films by viewers is now available to stream for free – albeit only for a limited time.

Originally an Olivier-nominated London stage play before it was transferred to the big screen in 2017, Ghost Stories is a British horror film that is currently streaming on BBC iPlayer, but not for long.

While it has been added to the streaming service, at the time of writing it states that it is only watchable for the next 25 days, meaning it will be removed shortly after Halloween.

The film was written by League of Gentlemen member Jeremy Dyson and Derren Brown collaborator Andy Nyman.

Nyman also stars in the lead role, along with Martin Freeman, Paul Whitehouse, Alex Lawther, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.

The plot follows Phillip Goodman (played by Nyman), a professor of psychology, arch-skeptic and the one-man ‘belief buster’ having his resolve tested when he receives a letter apparently from beyond the grave with an unusual challenge.

His mentor Charles Cameron, a TV parapsychologist, went missing fifteen years before and is presumed dead, but writes to Goodman saying that the pair must meet.

Cameron, it seems, is still alive and needs Goodman to find a rational explanation for three stories that are too bizarre or chilling to be true.

As Goodman investigates, he meets three haunted people, each with a tale more frightening, uncanny and inexplicable than the last.

One viewer was thrilled after discovering the film on the BBC as they posted on X, formerly Twitter: “Just watched the best horror film I’ve ever seen. It’s the scariest and easily the most intelligent horror film ever. Honestly, if you watch until the end, it will absolutely blow your mind!”

Not alone in their praise of the film, nor another fan posted online that they found it intense and unpredictable.

They said: “Intense film – great plot, real knuckle biting moments of fear. Refreshingly difficult to predict and while it didn’t have a huge cast it felt like every actor had their part written especially for them.” (sic)

Another added: “My partner isn’t easily scared and they found parts of the film scary, so you know it’s good. I spent 3/4 of the film behind my hands! If you are scared of the dark like me – the you will be terrified! “Interesting twist to the end! I found this film exceptional, well shot, well scripted!” (sic)

Ghost Stories is available to stream on BBC iPlayer until November 3.

  • 16 and Pregnant star Whitney Purvis misses her son’s funeral as the cause of death is confirmed

16 and Pregnant star Whitney Purvis misses her son’s funeral as the cause of death is confirmed

A former star of 16 and Pregnant has claimed they were shut out of their son’s funeral, but their ex and the child’s father has claimed she was invited as he revealed their son’s cause of death

A star of the reality TV show 16 and Pregnant has missed the funeral of her son, according to reports. It’s said Whitney Purvis, who was a former star of the MTV show, turned up late to the ceremony and was turned away.

Weston Jr died aged 16, with Whitney revealing the tragic news earlier this month. No cause of death was revealed at the time. Now, his father as confirmed it has been listed as due to natural causes on his death certificate.

According to sources, Whitney was distraught after being sent away from the funeral home in Georgia last Saturday amid her 16-year-old child’s burial service. It was claimed that Weston’s father, Weston Gosa Sr had told her that their son’s funeral service started at 4pm.

However, when she arrived, she says she was told the service had already started at 2pm, and she wasn’t on the list of attendees.

Whitney’s ex and Weston’s father, Weston Sr, however, told TMZ he informed everyone, including Whitney, the viewing was scheduled from 2pm to 4pm, with the service set to begin right at 4. He went on to tell the publication that he had called Whitney personally a week in advance to invite her.

He says he made it clear the event would be closely monitored with a strict guest list. Weston Sr claims the service had already started with the chapel doors locked when Whitney allegedly arrived at 4.15pm.

Weston Sr. then claims it was at that time the funeral director told Whitney she was too late to enter. The news is said to have caused Whitney to react, later allegedly calling her ex “evil” for shutting her out. He is said to have texted her a photo to show she had been added to the guest list before the day.

While Whitney wasn’t able to attend, it’s said her mum, aunt, and uncle did attend. The other family members are said to have arrived at around 3pm.

Gosa went on to say that he and his wife Amy chose to buy Whitney a separate urn containing some of Weston Jr.’s ashes as a gesture of compassion.

Announcing their son’s death earlier in the month, Whitney took to social media to share a heartbreaking message. Alongside photos of herself and Weston, she wrote at the time: “This is so hard to write. My beautiful son, Weston has passed away. He was only 16 years old.

“Life is so cruel and unfair. I just don’t understand. Oh my baby is gone and I don’t know what to do with myself.”

She added: “He was so perfect. This is really my worst nightmare come true. How do you go on in life after losing a child? I’m in disbelief, this cannot be happening. I don’t want it to be real.

“I would do anything just to hold him. Words just can’t describe the pain I am feeling. I love you so much, Weston Owen Gosa. God, I love you so much.

“You are my heart. I was so proud of the young man you were becoming. I just can’t go on without you. Rest in Peace, my angel. You are gone too soon. April 2, 2009 – June 2, 2025.”

  • Mum ‘ashamed for breastfeeding’ around her own family as they say it’s ‘distracting’

Mum ‘ashamed for breastfeeding’ around her own family as they say it’s ‘distracting’

A mum has been left horrified after her own family shamed her for breastfeeding her newborn baby while they were visiting – but most people are firmly on her side

Breastfeeding is a natural part of motherhood – but it’s still taboo to some.

The topic of breastfeeding in public has been bubbling for years. Some believe it should be completely fine, as it’s a natural part of motherhood, and new mums shouldn’t feel ashamed about needing to feed their children. Others, however, do not agree with that stance. But what about breastfeeding in your own home?

One mum was left gobsmacked after she was accused of “showing herself” and being “distracting” for trying to feed her baby in her own home just because her husband’s family were visiting at the time. The mum explained her in-laws “don’t like” her nursing “around them or near them”, and in the past she’s taken her baby upstairs to nurse simply to avoid a “fuss”.

However, she said she was tired of constantly going upstairs whenever her baby wanted to feed, so she decided to start nursing downstairs while her husband and his parents were outside in the garden. But when they came back in, they shamed her for her actions – and her father-in-law even suggested it was the same as him exposing himself.

In a post on Reddit, she recounted: “They were all busy outside, and I was in the living room alone. I pulled my top down a little and started nursing my baby, but then my father-in-law came back into the room after coming back in the house and looked right at me and huffed a little.

“My husband and mother-in-law followed him into the room, and she said ‘You don’t have to do that here, do you?’ to which I didn’t really know how to respond. My father-in-law, who moved more into the room in front of me and was looking right at my chest, muttered under his breath, ‘I’ll just start walking around with my junk out, huh?’

“My mother-in-law told me to take it to my room so her husband didn’t have to ‘see it all hanging out’ and she motioned to her chest. I was just looking back at them, not knowing what to say. I kind of froze and just continued breastfeeding my son, and they just stood there watching like they were expecting me to move, and I just felt exposed and shy, wishing I had just done it in my room.”

The mum said her husband stepped in to try and calm his parents down and, eventually, they left the room so that she could breastfeed in peace. But she said this isn’t the first time they’ve said something to her about feeding her child.

Commenters on the post were firmly on her side, insisting it was “creepy” of her father-in-law to associate breastfeeding with exposing himself. Others said the mum should be able to feed her child wherever she wants in her own home, and it should be up to her in-laws to leave if they don’t like it.

One person said: “I would tell them if they are uncomfortable in MY home, then they are free to leave and not return.”

Another added: “Get your husband to tell them you may nurse your son in your own home whenever and wherever you choose. If that makes them uncomfortable, they are welcome to spend time with your son once he has fully weaned.”

Being woken up during the night and needing to use the bathroom shouldn’t be dismissed as an ordinary sign of aging, according to one expert

One in five people in the UK is believed to be living with diabetes or pre-diabetes, but many more may not realistic they’re experiencing warning signs of this condition until it’s too late. While type one diabetes is usually identified in childhood and cannot be reversed or prevented in most cases, the number of adults being diagnosed with type two diabetes is on the rise and has slightly different symptoms than people may expect.

Niamh McMillan, Superdrug’s Pharmacy Superintendent, urged Brits to be on the lookout for four specific symptoms that could be your body raising the alarm:

    • Thirst
    • Frequent urination, particularly at night
    • Hunger
    • Fatigue

She said: “Symptoms for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes are very similar, although it’s worth noting that Type 1 diabetes symptoms tend to come on more quickly and are usually more severe than Type 2 diabetes.

“These are typically more subtle and gradually develop over time. In fact, many people have Type 2 diabetes without even realizing it, therefore it’s important to be aware of the signs.”

“Common signs of diabetes include feeling more thirsty than usual. Frequent urination, especially at night. Feeling hungry, even after eating and feeling tired. People with Type 1 diabetes may also have unexplained weight loss.”

These symptoms can also indicate a variety of other health issues, so experiencing a few does not guarantee you will be diagnosed with diabetes. However, for those who are concerned, McMillan recommended getting tested, which can be through blood tests, specific diabetes tests or doctors’ assessments, some of which are available through Superdrug.

Diabetes occurs when there is an issue with the body’s insulin supply. This hormone helps the body break down food into sugar that is then changed into energy, used to keep your body going.

Type one diabetes occurs when the body cannot produce enough insulin, often because of damage to the pancreas, such as a physical injury or an immune system reaction that attacks the insulin-producing cells. Type two diabetes, on the other hand, happens when the body isn’t making enough insulin or isn’t using it properly and it’s usually led by prediabetes.

McMillan noted that regardless of the type, there is no cure for diabetes. However, type two diabetics may be able to go into remission if they can get their blood sugar levels down to safe ranges without medications.

For people looking to lower their risk of diabetes, she recommended: “Losing weight, especially around the waist, is the most effective way to help put Type 2 diabetes into remission. Healthy eating also plays a big role.

“Try and adopt a diet that focuses on whole, unprocessed foods such as vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains which can help regulate blood sugar levels and improve insulin insensitivity. Reducing your intake of refined sugars and processed foods is also critical in helping to prevent spikes in blood glucose levels.

“Increasing your daily physical activity can support weight loss and also help combat the effects of prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes. Aim for at least 150 minutes a week, that’s the equivalent of 20-30 minutes a day.”

‘My mum bought me useless gifts I didn’t want – I wish she hadn’t bothered’

A woman was left furious after her mother bought her a Christmas present for the third year running despite asking her not to – and is fed up being made to feel guilty for not wanting them

It’s always nice to receive gifts at Christmas, but one woman was left ‘upset’ at what her mother gifted her.

Despite asking her for the last three years not to get her anything, she was ignored and was still handed a couple of gifts from her mum. While she would have much preferred her to donate the money to charity, it’s something her mum wouldn’t accept.

But her feelings have caused a mixed reaction online, with many people telling her to just accept it and move on, even though she said she wants to declutter and thinks it’s “disrespectful” she wasn’t listened to.

She took it Mumsnet to share her dismay and explained: “I asked my mother this year not to buy me anything for Christmas – this is the third year of asking. I said that if she really wanted to get us something, then please make a charity donation on our behalf and buy some lego/toys for a local food bank collecting.”

The woman said her mum buying gifts for her grandchildren is enough, and further added she has a “house full of stuff” that she’s trying to get rid of. “I don’t need anything and genuinely am happy if it’s just my kids having presents. It’s enough for me! I have all the stuff I could ever need and I don’t want more stuff when I’m desperately trying to declutter years of stuff.”

However, she said her mum had ignored her wishes and said she didn’t want to donate to charity and instead bought her things she didn’t need, including a pashmina she will “never wear”, a bag she will never use and other gifts, including toiletries. The post detailed: “I know this might sound ungrateful but it really upset me. I am desperately trying to declutter. She also bought me stuff that she likes but feels like it’s for the person she wants me to be and I am not. She knows this too.”

The anonymous Mumsnet user said she felt it was “disrespectful” that she’d asked for three years without presents but was left feeling ungrateful and then made to feel guilty for not wanting any of it. “Luckily she wasn’t with us for Christmas this year – I was actually quite angry and upset by it all. I hate that it makes me seem ungrateful when I keep asking her every year not to buy me stuff,” she concluded. However, not many people could get on board with her frustration.

One user chimed: “Disrespected? Upset? Angry? No need to be so dramatic, say thanks and give it to a local charity. Job done,” and another added: “You’ve mentioned it, and left the ball in her court. She’s decided that she would still like to buy something. Accept the gifts and move on.”

While another suggested: “Sound annoying. I would have suggested the charity shop but that’s just one more thing to organize to do on your day off. Can you play it differently? Tell her you’re saving for a holiday and could she give you cash instead? Or a gift voucher to John Lewis or whatever for a big purchase?”
