New details about Furious 7‘s original ending before Paul Walker’s death have now been revealed. Now, Barry Hertz’s new book “Welcome To The Family,” about the making of the Fast & Furious franchise (which we received an early copy of), has revealed new details about how Furious 7 was originally meant to end.

In the chapter about Furious 7‘s development and how it changed after Walker’s death, the book reveals how it was planned to end at first with Dom, Brian, and the rest of the crew visiting a familiar location, destroying “God’s Eye,” and setting the stage for another adventure:

Originally, (Furious 7) ended with the whole crew back at Neptune’s Net, the Malibu seafood joint off Pacific Coast Highway where Brian and Dom had bonded in the first movie, celebrating the successful retrieval of the “God’s Eye” MacGuffin that Jason Statham’s villain, Deckard Shaw, was pursuing. But instead of giving the device back to the mysterious government agent Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell), who had just awarded the congressional team commendations, Dom crushes the God’s Eye under his boot, saying that it was too powerful for any one person to possess. The team then roars off onto the PCH, with the smiling Dom crumpling the commendation into a ball and tossing it out the window as the score swells and the end credits roll.

Hertz included more details later on, too. Part of the ending would also have been seen “the team picked their next destination by throwing a knife at a nearby map, letting ‘fate’ decide.” All of this was eventually scrapped following Walker’s death as the movie’s entire third act was rewritten.

The conclusion is very different from what Furious 7 did in the aftermath of tragedy. The film now ends with Brian and Dom driving side-by-side on a splitting highway after the entire team reflects on how things will be different now, with Brian set up to retire from their adventures to be with his family as “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth blares.

Beyond Brian’s fate, it is noticeable how different the original ending was. The God’s Eye is not destroyed in Furious 7with the hacking device even coming back in The Fate of the Furious and Fast X. This would not have been possible if Dom destroyed it as originally intended.

Additionally, Furious 7‘s original ending attempted to turn Dom and his crew into more legitimate heroes by making their services acknowledged and rewarded by the United States government. Rather than remain daring former outlaws with clean slates, they could’ve become a step closer to being formal agents working for Mr. Nobody’s organization.

None of this came to fruition after Walker’s death. Some of these elements could’ve been caught, but Furious 7 pivoted to make sure that its final moments gave a proper farewell to one of the franchise’s leading men after using CGI and his brothers to finish Walker’s scenes.

With $1.5 billion at the box office and strong reviews, Furious 7‘s ending is seen as one of its greatest strengths, wonderfully navigating honoring Paul Walker’s life and his contributions to the franchise, all while giving Brian a good conclusion. Although that was never the original intent, the end result is tremendous given the circumstances.

Zootopia 2 joins the exclusive club where Frozen II, Moana 2 and Ralph Breaks the Internet exist alongside The Rescuers Down Under and Fantasy 2000. Like those before it, Zootopia 2 demonstrates why some animated movie sequels make sense (and not just cents).

Despite being released almost 10 years ago, Zootopia 2 picks up shortly after the events of the first movie, where Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) became unlikely partners on the city’s police force. Still considered newbies, Judy’s fierce desire to prove herself lands the two in a great deal of trouble, even as they face a new mystery to solve.

As the 100th anniversary of the city’s founding draws near, Judy and Nick uncover a long-buried secret involving a new animal: Gary De’Snake (Ke Huy Quan). With Nick and Judy’s fledgling partnership in danger of being dissolved if they don’t figure out how to work together, the duo recruits new allies to explore the city and crack the case.

Zootopia 2 Establishes Disney’s Own Kid-Friendly Knives Out Franchise

One of the biggest reasons Zootopia worked was because of the clever mystery at the heart of the movie — one with surprising twists and turns that took audiences through an exciting romp through its ecologically-diverse landscape. Jared Bush, who co-wrote the first film’s screenplay, returns for the sequel, writing the script and co-directing alongside fellow Disney Animation veteran Byron Howard (Tangled, Encanto).

The story of Zootopia 2 is just as twisty as the previous film, although it’s a bit more predictable. Nevertheless, Bush’s script delivers a mystery worthy of Zootopiaand it becomes plain to see that Disney could very easily make a franchise out of Nick and Judy’s city beat. If Bush and his collaborators at Disney can craft even more intricate mysteries that are fun for all ages, audiences will no doubt keep coming back.

Zootopia 2 Expands The World Of Disney’s Most Unique Metropolis

Another standout element from the first Zootopia movie was the city itself and the inner workings of its politics and residents. In Zootopia 2Bush digs even deeper into the history and lore of the city, revealing how Zootopia was founded and the complex power dynamics that keep it running.

The Zootopia 2 story also takes viewers to new locations, like Marsh Market, which helps to ensure the film feels like it’s breaking new ground even if the themes are a bit of a retread. The first film leaned heavily on the dynamics of predator vs prey animals to convey its message of acceptance. In Zootopia 2that message is clumsily repackaged with snakes and reptiles being scapegoated and shunned from the city.

Still, the messages of acceptance and open-mindedness in Zootopia 2 are just as important now as ever, which gives the film a very solid heart even if the story is a little familiar.

Nick & Judy Are Joined By New Scene-Stealing Characters

Along with expanding the world of Zootopia comes introducing a whole host of new animal characters. Quan’s Gary De’Snake is a delightful addition to the world, and his journey in Zootopia proves unexpectedly sweet. Meanwhile, Fortune Feimster’s Nibbles Maplestick is a hilarious and scene-stealing beaver, and Andy Samberg’s Pawbert Lynxley rounds out the main cast with a charming performance.

Disney went much bigger in Zootopia 2and there’s a long list of big stars who have cameos in the film — including Robert Irwin and Dwayne Johnson — but these appearances never draw away from the story of Nick and Judy, which is central to the film. Their partnership is in danger because the two approach their cases very differently, and their story sees the pair learning to compromise and communicate in order to strengthen their bond.

Judy and Nick’s story isn’t necessarily groundbreaking, but it ties in nicely to the overall themes of Zootopia 2. The film is, at its heart, about accepting others’ differences and how diversity can create a better world, which is something our real world sorely needs to hear.

Zootopia 2 Is A Near-Perfect Disney Movie Sequel

In Zootopia 2Bush, Howard and Disney go bigger while maintaining the first film’s heart, and although the movie retreads some of the same themes, it’s a tightly woven mystery with plenty of emotion and humor threaded through to keep audiences of all ages engaged. There are a wide variety of jokes in the film, some that land and some that don’t, but there’s certainly something here for everyone.

With a studio like Walt Disney Animation, where they’ve released so few sequels in theaters, it might be expected that they’d flounder a little, but Zootopia 2 is just as strong as its predecessor. It manages to expand the world in exciting ways, tell another compelling story with its main characters and recapture the magic of Zootopia.

One Piece season 3 has received a massive production update, alongside a number of major returning cast changes as Netflix’s live-action adaptation continues. Ahead of One Piece season 2 arriving on Netflix in early 2026, the adventure show based on Eiichiro Oda’s acclaimed manga was renewed for season 3. The story is expected to continue adapting the Alabasta Saga.

Now, Netflix has confirmed One Piece season 3 has started filming today, November 24, 2025, in Cape Town, South Africa. In addition to the returning main cast members who are part of the Straw Hat Pirates, Mikaela Hoover as Chopper, Joe Manganiello as Mr. 0, Lera Abova as Miss All Sunday, and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefartari Cobra will be series regulars.

The filming update and One Piece cast changes were accompanied by a promotional image, showcasing a skull, a sheathed knife, and a Log Pose, used to navigate the Grand Line. The three objects surround a script for the season 3 premiere. All four objects are in a desert, reminiscent of the setting for Alabasta from the manga:

The front page of the script reveals One Piece season 3, episode 1 is titled “Where There’s Smoke.” The episode was written by Ashley Wigfield and will be directed by Christoph Schrewe. In addition to the existing cast members and cast promotions, Cole Escola will be joining as Bon Clay, while Xolo Maridueña will be portraying Portgas D. Ace.

The story of One Piece season 3 will pick up during the Alabasta Arc, the final stretch of the Alabasta Saga from the manga. One Piece season 1 ended by setting up this Saga, briefly introducing Smoker while hinting at the group’s upcoming adventure into the Grand Line. Season 3 will be the culmination of the first big threat they face.

Although it hasn’t been confirmed whether season 3 will only be covering the Alabasta Arc, the length of the storyline in comparison to other, smaller Arcs makes it a very likely possibility. This means a major focus on events that will be set up in season 2, including Baroque Works’ involvement in the larger story as a long-term threat.

With One Piece season 3 now filming, it likely won’t be long until more information about the upcoming episodes is revealed. The filming beginning months before season 2’s premiere also indicates there could be a shorter wait time between seasons. It’s also a good sign for just how much faith Netflix has in the ongoing manga adaptation.
