  • Amazon issues an urgent 48-hour alert to all UK users and ignoring it will be costly

Amazon issues an urgent 48-hour alert to all UK users and ignoring it will be costly

Amazon is warning all customers to be on high alert for scams ahead of Black Friday 2025.

A massive weekend of shopping is on the horizon, with Black Friday 2025 kicking off, tomorrow, November 28. This annual event is known for offering massive discounts across tech, fashion, home appliances, and more. That makes it a prime opportunity to snag a big bargain and save some serious cash. Unfortunately, it’s also a peak time for scams.

Cybercriminals are well known for exploiting the excitement around Black Friday, with online crooks using a number of sneaky tricks to attack unsuspecting shoppers. In a bid to cut down on people getting scammed, UK network O2 recently issued a warning about rising online attacks. Now Amazon has also released its own important alert.

In an email sent to users, and seen by Mirror Online, Amazon said: “As the busy shopping season approaches, stay informed with these tips to help recognize impersonation scams—when a scammer claims to be a trusted company and contacts you in an attempt to access sensitive information such as personal details, financial information, or Amazon account data.”

So what do you need to watch out for?

Amazon says that cybercriminals use a variety of tactics during Black Friday to target unsuspecting consumers. Common methods include sending fake delivery notifications, claiming that your shopping account needs updating, or pressuring you to resolve nonexistent issues.

Victims who fall for these schemes may unknowingly hand over highly sensitive information, which scammers can then use to steal money or access accounts.

According to Amazon, some of the most widespread scams appearing in November involve bogus messages about delivery or account problems, misleading third-party social media posts promoting deals that seem too good to be true, and requests for passwords or payment details sent through unofficial channels.

Another tactic involves sending unfamiliar links that urge customers to “verify” their account credentials on fake or phishing websites.

“Amazon will never send emails asking customers to verify their account credentials,” the company warned.

To help survive the next few days of shopping, Amazon has released 5 rules that are very wise to follow.

    • Always use the Amazon mobile app or website for all your shopping needs, including customer service, account changes, delivery tracking, and refund status.

    • Remember, Amazon will never ask you to make payments or to provide payment information (including gift cards or wire transfers) for products or services over the phone.

    • Consider setting up 2-step verification when available to your online accounts to help prevent unauthorized account access. You can set up 2-step verification at amazon.co.uk/2SV.

    • Save time and stay secure using a password. It’s a safer way to sign in than using passwords and it works with the same face, fingerprint, or PIN you already use to unlock your device. Set up a passkey at amazon.co.uk/passkey.

    • Scammers might try to create a sense of urgency to persuade you to do what they’re asking. Be careful any time someone tries to convince you that you must act now.

If you are hoping to grab a discount this Black Friday, then it’s vital to stay alert and only shop via official websites such as Amazon.co.uk.

Also watch out for text or email messages that suddenly appear out of the blue and don’t be lured into clicking on any links to grab a deal.

  • Trump says he will visit China in April after the call with Xi

Trump says he will visit China in April after the call with Xi

President Donald Trump has said he agreed to visit Beijing in April and invited Chinese President Xi Jinping for a state visit later next year, following a phone call between the two leaders.

Trump and Xi – who met nearly a month ago in South Korea – discussed a range of issues including trade, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, fentanyl and Taiwan, according to the president and China’s foreign ministry.

“Our relationship with China is extremely strong!” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

China’s new state agency released a statement that said both countries should “keep up the momentum, keep moving forward in the right direction on the basis of equality, respect and mutual benefit”.

The leaders met in Busan, South Korea in October, after which they agreed to a truce on tariffs. The US decided to cut a 20% tariff in half aimed at decreasing the flow of fentanyl.

Tariffs remain on Chinese goods and average just below 50%.

“Since then, the China-US relationship has generally maintained a steady and positive trajectory, and this is welcomed by the two countries and the broader international community,” the Chinese statement said.

The US then pulled back a threat of 100% additional tariffs on Chinese goods, while China delayed its plan to introduce its latest round of rare earth export controls.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Monday call with Xi – which lasted about an hour – was focused on trade.

“We are pleased with what we’ve seen from the Chinese, and they feel the same way,” she said.

In addition to discussing trade, Xi and Trump broached the topics of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Taiwan.

Xi told Trump that Taiwan’s “return to China” is essential for China’s vision for the “post-war international order”.

China has been married in a diplomatic battle with Japan, a US ally, over the longstanding “strategic ambiguity” on the sovereignty of self-governed Taiwan.

Earlier this month, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said any Chinese attack on Taiwan could force a Japanese military response.

Trump, however, did not mention Taiwan in his Social Truth post about the call.

US Ambassador to Japan, George Glass, previously said the US backs Tokyo in the wake of China’s “coercion”.

Prince William Teams Up with John Cleese and Ronnie Wood for Tusk Awards

    NEED TO KNOW

    • Prince William stepped out on the evening of Nov. 26 for a special awards night
    • He spent the evening with friends and supporters of Tusk, one of his longest-running causes
    • He has been involved with Tusk for 20 years, since adopting it as a charity in 2005

Prince William is marking a special anniversary.

The Prince of Wales, 43, stepped out in London on Nov. 26 to celebrate 20 years of his support for the wildlife charity Tusk. Looking dapper in a suit and tie, he joined the charity’s annual awards evening and made a speech at the event, also attended by Monty Python star John Cleese and the Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood.

The event continues Prince William’s busy month, after traveling to Brazil for the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony and attending the Royal Variety Performance in London alongside Kate Middleton, marking their first joint red carpet moment in two years.

Tusk is one of William’s longest-running patronages, as the prince has been involved with it since he began his public life in 2005 following his university studies.

Prince William met some of the charity’s top supporters and the leading African conservationists who are the big winners this year.

After a performance from the London Assembly Gospel Choir, which opened the ceremony, the royal heir presented the three awards: the Prince William Award for Conservation in Africa, the Tusk Award for Conservation in Africa and the Tusk Wildlife Ranger Award.

During his speech, Prince William said solutions to help the environment must be “accelerated.”

“My visit to Brazil earlier this month for the Earthshot Prize and for COP30 reinforced my sense of urgency,” he said. “It reminded me that when we unite behind a shared purpose, we can accelerate solutions that make both people and the planet healthier.”

Like Prince William’s Earthshot Prizewhich he celebrated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in early November, the awards help to amplify the work of those who are on the frontline. They also provide much-needed backing and funding for the ongoing work. Since the awards began more than a decade ago, 61 winners have received more than $3 million in grants for their organization, helping them to scale their work and collectively improve protection for over 60 species.

The winners highlight the importance of collaboration in effective conservation and have shared their expertise and knowledge to drive vital change in tackling issues such as the illegal wildlife trade and climate change.

A key theme of the awards, and William’s year, has been supporting those who are on the frontline of caring for and protecting both animals and the natural environment. In Brazil, he spoke out in support of indigenous people and the work they do to both protect the globe’s resources and the way their lifestyles preserve the land and nature they, and others, rely on.

Laban Mwangi, Head Ranger at the Bongo Surveillance Project (BSP) in Kenya, was the winner of the Tusk Wildlife Ranger Award. He told PEOPLE the award was an “honor.” It is “a chance to raise global awareness about the importance of our work and the challenges we face, and I hope it will inspire more people to support conservation efforts for future generations.”
“The award means we can continue to expand our efforts to protect the bongo and other endangered species in the Maasai Mau and Aberdare forests. The award will help equip our rangers with better training and new tools, like camera traps, to monitor the forest more effectively.”

The winner of the Tusk Award for Conservation in Africa was Rahima Njaidi, who leads MJUMITA — the largest network of community forest guardians in Tanzania. She tells PEOPLE, “It’s important to involve communities in conservation because they are the ones living adjacent to these resources. So involving them ensures sustainability and efficiency in conservation efforts. It also ensures livelihoods and rights are strengthened and they get involved in decision making thus increasing sense of ownership.”

Kumara Wakjira, Director-General of the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority, was the recipient of the Prince William award for Conservation in Africa. “Ethiopia’s biodiversity has faced enormous pressure from encroachment, deforestation, poaching, human settlement, agriculture and pastoralism, so maintaining existing populations of several species is in itself an achievement,” he says. “Things are frequently changing and happening in a more challenging magnitude or degree, but the level of understanding from stakeholders and authorities has been growing significantly. Local authorities now show a positive attitude and stand by and support conservation efforts.

“Influencing stakeholders and the community, raising awareness and promoting their level of understanding, and therefore increasing their support, is what I consider my greatest achievement. I am positive that the combined effort we are part of brings a promising future for wildlife across Ethiopia.”

Earlier in the year, William helmed a docuseries of short films called Guardianswhich highlighted the work that various heroes of conservation do around the world.

  • Behind the Scenes Secrets of Frozen That We Can’t Let Go

Behind the Scenes Secrets of Frozen That We Can’t Let Go

    1. An adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen‘s 1845 fairy tale The Snow Queen, Frozen was actually in development at Disney for almost a decade (and was briefly considered for a hand-drawn animated feature back in 1937).

The first modern attempt happened in 2002, and when 2003 also proved unsuccessful, more stalled attempts followed over the years. Frozen really didn’t start coming together until Christopher Buckwho directed Tarzancame aboard in 2008, but the film wasn’t commissioned until 2011 following Tangled‘s box office success.

And in 2012, Jennifer Leewho initially came on as a screenwriter, was named co-director, making her the first woman to direct an animated film by Walt Disney Animation Studios.

    2. The movie was going to be titled The Snow Queen after the original fairy tale, but the filmmakers decided to change it to Frozen “Because, to us, it represents the movie. Frozen plays on the level of ice and snow but also the frozen relationship, the frozen heart that has to be thawed,” producer Peter Del Vecho explained to Bleeding Cooldenying it was inspired by Tangled. (The Snow Queen title was still used overseas.)

  • Janelle James On Why ‘Abbott Elementary’ Had Trouble Casting Kids

Janelle James On Why ‘Abbott Elementary’ Had Trouble Casting Kids

Five seasons into Abbott ElementaryJanelle James has seen a whole new class of young actors come into their talent.

The Golden Globe nominee explained that there aren’t “a lot of dark-skinned Black kids” with agents, which made it initially difficult casting the ABC sitcom, which is set in a predominantly Black elementary school in Philadelphia.

“If I remember, in our early seasons, they had to go find kids,” she said on Vulture’s Good One podcast. “There aren’t a lot of dark-skinned Black kids in LA who are in acting. Acting, especially as a kid, is a very expensive thing. You have to have a parent that is free to take you around and do auditions and stuff. And that doesn’t really exist in the Black community.”

James continued, “So, we had to go find them. A lot of them aren’t professional actors. Now they are, because a lot of them have grown up with the show, and I think that’s amazing. But a lot of them had never been on a set or anything before. I mean, we were learning together, is how I felt.”

The actress who plays Principal Ava previously raved to Deadline that the Quinta Brunson-created show’s Season 5 renewal is “amazing at a time of shows going to three seasons and then sometimes without even a real ending.”

Lela Hoffmeister in ‘Abbott Elementary’ (Gilles Mingasson/Disney)

“The fact that we’re trucking along and the fact that we, especially Quinta, have done this through so many different calamities that people don’t think about it. You shouldn’t think about it, because you’re just being entertained, but we’ve done this show through the pandemic, strikes, fires in LA, personal strife,” explained James. “I think the show keeps getting better (and it) is a testament to what amazing work we’re doing.”
