Josh Hutcherson Joins A24 Horror Film Cast With Arkasha Stevenson Directing

The Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson is joining the cast of a new horror film. After starring in movies like Bridge to Terabithia, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and The Kids Are All Rightthe actor had his breakout role in The Hunger Games trilogy with Jennifer Lawrence.

Since then, Hutcherson has continued to appear in multiple projects, with his latest being the comedy series I Love LAwhich is currently airing Sunday nights on HBO.

According to DeadlineHutcherson, Frank Dillane, Caleb Landry Jones, and Whitmer Thomas are all currently in negotiations to star in an A24 horror film, with Arkasha Stevenson as director, and Stevenson and Tim Smith writing the script. Producers include Smith, Lars Knudsen, Emily Hildner, Harrison Huffman, and Christina D’Souza, with Ari Aster as executive producer.

While not many details have been released so far, Deadline notes that a bachelor party-gone-wrong will be the focus of the horror movie. The untitled A24 film is the latest partnership between Stevenson and Smith. They previously worked together with Keith Thomas on the script for The First Omenwhich Stevenson directed. The First Omenreleased in 2024, was the latest film in The Omen franchise, which began back in 1976.

Sequels Damien – Omen II, The Final Conflict, and Omen IV: The Awakening were all released from 1978 to 1991, with a remake being made in 2006.

The First Omen received positive reviews from critics, with an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. It earned $54 million at the box office and scored a Saturn Award nomination earlier this year. The horror flick was Stevenson’s very first time directing a full-length film, which means A24’s upcoming horror film will be her second big-screen movie.

It’s unknown when production will get underway, but co-stars Hutcherson, Dillane, Jones, and Thomas all have other projects that will be released in the meantime. The The Hunger Games alum has Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 in December alongside the I Love LA season finale, with The Long Home and Littlemouth in post-production.

Thomas, who starred in the box office hit and critically acclaimed horror film Weapons over the summer, has an upcoming project called Terminal Crew of Dudes.

Once production gets underway on A24’s next horror film, hopefully, more details will be released about the storyline and Hutcherson’s character as The Hunger Games alum dives back into the horror genre.
