Following its launch earlier this year in China, Riftbound, said League of Legends trading card game, is out worldwide. The first set is called Origins, and focuses on many different Champions throughout the lifetime of League. The second set is titled Spiritforged, and is due out in February 2026.
Before that launch, we have a fresh, new, exclusive Spiritforged card to share, as well as a breakdown of some of the keywords coming to Riftbound‘s second set.
Our Exclusive New Spiritforged Card For Riftbound
A Reliable Bilgewater Unit
Our exclusive Riftbound Spiritforged card is called Buhru Captain. It’s a 3-cost (one Body rune) unit with three Might. When you play it, you have the option to draw one or buff itwhich gives it a token +1 Might buff card. Cards with multiple triggered abilities often find themselves in many decks in TCGs, and I’d love to see this one pop up at a sealed event.
Spiritforged will bring a few new mechanics, including equipmentonce the set hits in 2026. It’s a new gear type that now directly impacts units, rather than your general board state as an extension of your Champion. Much like equipment in Magic: The Gathering, you’ll need to equip it to a unit first after getting it out on the board.
Quickdraw is an additional keyword debuting with Spiritforged and lets you immediately attach equipment to a unit if the conditions are met. The Weaponmaster keyword is similarly equipment-oriented and enables you to attach equipment at a discount when the card is played.
The last keyword of the set, Repeat, allows you to play a spell’s effect twiceas long as you pay the additional cost. This keyword can only be repeated once. It’s going to be an interesting set just from these keywords.
How To Best Use Riftbound’s New Spiritforged Card
Body Decks May Have A New Staple
Where Buhru Captain excels is in versatility. If you need to draw, you can. If you want a bulky unit for 3-cost, you can put it out and start claiming battlefields. Outside of Champion units, traits haven’t gotten a lot of support in Riftboundbut you can see the theme of the Bilgewater art coming through (which is from Legends of Runeterra on a card called Buhru Leader).
This interacts with several decktypes, including Lee Sin: a Legend card that is centered around buffs. Lee Sin (Centered), a Champion Unit, grants other buffed friendly units on his battlefield two might. Units also have the option to “spend buffs” for powerful effects depending on the card. While it might not look powerful at first glance, it’s highly reliable, especially if you have a buff-centered deck.
neither Riftbound gears up for the Spiritforged set, they’re dropping new reveals regularly on the game’s official card gallery. Out of everything shown for Spiritforged so far, I’m anxious to see which Legends will be making appearances in the set. So far, Azir, Irelia, Draven, Renata Glasc, and Sivir are confirmed.
