Fallout 4 has just celebrated its 10th birthday following the reveal of it Anniversary Edition on Fallout Day in October. Unfortunately, the Anniversary Edition release was something of a disaster, with the accompanying update subsequently earning Fallout 4 negative reviews due to a deluge of new bugs. Another update has now been pushed to start the process of polishing the RPG.
Developer Bethesda Game Studios posted patch notes on social media for the new Fallout 4 update, which was released on November 21 and is being referred to as Patch 1.”The team is focused on DLC installation issues, occasional crashing, and general user experience,” according to the post, which also notes that the November 2025 Fallout 4 update paves the way for the Varmint Rifle to be added next week – “the first of several free Fallout 4 Creations coming to players.” Patch 1 does not address a common complaint regarding a mod storage space increase, which is being prepared for December’s Patch 2.
Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition Got Off To A Bad Start
After the single-player side of the Fallout series laid dormant for a decade, Fallout 4S ‘ Anniversary Edition promised a comprehensive version of the game alongside some new additions. The Anniversary Edition includes all the DLC released for Fallout 4plus a suite of Creations; ie, mods hosted via Bethesda’s official, integrated mod platform. The selling point of the bundled Creations is, theoretically, all the mods vetted for the Anniversary Edition are compatible with each other, injecting a host of new content into the aging game.
The Anniversary Edition has been a rehash of the issues that cropped up with Fallout 4‘s next-gen update: bugs and performance issues abound. As is often the case with the updates Bethesda pushes for its legacy games, the Anniversary Edition update broke a lot of existing mod compatibility, leaving the community scrambling. Perhaps even more egregious is content being removed; Dion’s “The Wanderer” disappeared from Fallout 4‘s radio with the advent of its Anniversary Edition.
The New Update Makes Some Fixes
Most critically, the new Fallout 4 update addresses a number of issues which caused the game to crash, such as when downloading Creations or when simply starting a new game with mods installed on a PlayStation 4. The patch notes continue with fixes for a handful of issues when saving and loading save files, followed by a number of UI and UX improvements, including eliminating soft locks that stemmed from navigating certain menus.
The patch notes are ultimately a rather short list of improvements, but it does show that Bethesda is working to address the issues. It likely won’t satisfy players who were upset that the Anniversary Edition released in such a poor state in the first place, however. December’s Patch 2 will likely be a bigger step in the right direction, increasing mod storage expansion to allow players to really dive into the Anniversary Edition additions in bulk. Fallout 4‘s November 2025 patch addresses some pressing issues, but there’s still a ways to go.
