The value of the agreement is 275,020,276 euros, including the supply of spare parts and special equipment, as well as the implementation of maintenance works for 10 years, including the total life of one person, and the duration of the contract is 38 months.

And the contract was signed by Dr. Tariq Juili, the head of the National Authority for Civil Aviation, and Ahmed Al-Mufti, the managing director of the Egyptian National Railway Industry Company “NIRK”.

The Prime Minister said that this signature comes in implementation of the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the President of the Republic, to expand the establishment of a network of environmentally friendly green mass transportation to facilitate the movement of citizens and provide them with special services, in light of the Ministry of Transportation’s plan to implement a number of green mass transportation projects in the Governorate of Alexandria, as the second governorate is overpopulated.

He added that the project will constitute a major qualitative shift in the environmentally friendly sustainable green mass transport system in Alexandria and will contribute to the rapid economic and social development of the Alexandria Governorate, pointing out that construction work is currently being carried out for the first phase of the Alexandria Metro project, which stretches 21.7 km from the Abu Qir railway station to the Misr station in Alexandria. بتول 15.2 كم حتى ابو قير تصميل ويشتمل على 20 stations (6 level -14 upper).

The chief engineer confirmed that the project aims to achieve the safe operation of the line, especially after the elimination of slips and many illegal crossings and intersections with traffic, in addition to accommodating the increased traffic and the number of trips and contributing to the reduction of traffic jams in Alexandria, as well as contributing to the reduction of fuel consumption since the operation depends on clean electric energy, as well as the project will increase the maximum capacity of the passengers from 2850 passengers/hour/direction to 60,000 passenger/hour/direction and reduce the journey time from 50 minutes to 25 minutes due to the increase in operating speed from 25 km/hour to 100 km/hour, and it will also contribute to reducing the pick-up time from 10 minutes to 2.5 minutes, and it also achieves the exchange of passenger transport services with the Cairo/Alexandria railway at Egypt and Sidi Jaber stations, and with the sand tram at Victoria and Sidi Jaber stations, and with the line سكك حديد رشيد في المعمورة المعمورة.
