Black Clover’s Dallas Reid Talks the Anime’s Movie Prospects

Black Clover has truly begun to shine in the manga’s twilight years, thanks to the manga getting an appropriate, well-deserved sendoff and the anime a triumphant season 2 return. But one arena it has yet to return to is movies, with only one title under its belt. However, the anime’s greatest stars have begun to break their silence on this.

Speaking to Screen Rant at Anime Pasadena 2025, Black Clover’s English dub Asta star, Dallas Reid, offered encouraging observations, stoking hope in fans. The voice actor cited qualifying criteria like the returning anime’s success and desire for more content as the usual conditions for an anime movie. However, with the hype already heating up, it’s already a distinct possibility.

Black Clover’s Asta Star Talks the Anime’s Movie Future

Dallas Reid’s multifaceted, intense energy in portraying the muscle-bound Anti-Magic user Black Clover is an enticing return, both for season 2 and possibly more. While not outright confirming a new movie, Reid has confirmed to Screen Rant that they would love for the movie to hit theaters again. Speaking fondly of their experiences on the last movie, they said:

“Working on Sword of the Wizard King was an absolute blast. Michael, our director, was fantastic. I also got to work alongside some amazing talent I hadn’t before — Ben Diskin played one of the antagonists, and I grew up watching his shows, so that was surreal.

I’d love for Black Clover to hit theaters again someday, though I’ll admit — I’d probably be terrified walking a red carpet premiere!”

For those who haven’t seen it yet, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King enjoyed a Japanese theatrical release while simulcasting on Netflix on June 16, 2023. The movie bridged the gap between the Elf Reincarnation Arc and the Heart Kingdom Joint Struggle Arc, offering a new story for fans starved of content since the anime’s abrupt ending in 2021.

With knowledge of the anime picking up with season 2, going into the hotly-anticipated Spade Kingdom Raid Arc, the prospects of even more anime should have fans positively chomping at the bit. Given the success of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, Reid’s insight indicates that, should the anime’s return perform well, there’s a reasonable route ahead.

“Never say never! It really depends on the market — how well the show does, how hungry fans are for more. You don’t just make a multi-million-dollar anime film for fun — unless, of course, you can afford to!”

While the Spade Kingdom Raid realistically should be adapted as a new season of the anime, the series’ film prospects would reasonably depend on whether people actually flock to season 2 as much as everything seems to indicate. Given the initial run’s explosive success on Crunchyroll, as long as longtime viewers remain committed, this seems a reasonable possibility.

Will Black Clover Make Another Canon Movie?

While its anime movie prospects, for now, remain unconfirmed, it realistically should continue the canon route. After all, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King was received well by viewers, garnering a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes while still experiencing a more limited release. With movies adapting other wildly popular anime like Chainsaw Man’s arcs, Black Clover is a safe bet.

However, there’s no telling whether this is what actually happens. Season 2 going into the greater Spade Kingdom Raid Arc effectively blocks that story from going to the big screen, so it’d really only fit to adapt the final arc. With the quality taking a quantum leap after Black Clover went to Jump GIGA, this would be a fitting adaptation.

Given popular anime’s recent direction pivoting away from the largely non-canonical films such as from Naruto’s heyday, this seems to be the better move for international box office success. After all, a canon, theater-exclusive story drives more sales than an original, disconnected, low-stakes story. Regardless of whether Black Clover takes this approach, though, the fans are grateful it’s at least returning.
