Crunchyroll’s Most-Anticipated Anime of 2026 Drops Its Official Trailer After Countless Delays

After an agonizingly long wait and what seemed like one delay after another, Crunchyroll‘s most anticipated fantasy anime, Witch Hat Atelier, is finally ready to make its debut, and it just unveiled a release date and a new trailer all at once.

From the return of Re: Zero them Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun, the Spring 2026 season was already quite loaded, especially for fantasy anime fans, and it just got a lot more exciting with Witch Hat Atelier joining the lineup for April 2026.

Witch Hat Atelier Locks Down April 2026 Release Window

In a recent post on X by the anime’s official handle, Witch Hat Atelier confirmed its debut for April 2026 along with a new trailer. The anime was originally supposed to be released in 2025, but was then postponed to improve the series’ quality even further.

It was only at NYCC 2025 that the series confirmed a 2026 release, and a month later, fans finally have a tighter release window to look forward to. Fortunately, the anime finally seems to be on track to stick to this release window this time around, which means it won’t be too long until an exact release date is confirmed.

Admittedly, it has been a very long wait since the anime was first announced in 2022. It would be another two years until it was announced at Anime Expo 20224 that Bug Films was animating the series, with the studio announcement only adding to the anticipation surrounding the adaptation. However, judging by the latest teaser, it seems this long wait was well worth it after all.

Witch Hat Atelier Unveils Star-Studded Voice Cast

Alongside the new trailer, which definitely shows significant improvement and detail in the series’ animation, With Hat Atelier has also revealed the castings for Coco, the protagonist, and Qifrey, her mentor. Coco will be voiced by Rena Motomura, while Qifrey will be voiced by Natsuki Hanae, who fans may best know as Tanjiro from Demon Slayer.

Celebrating the casting, the series has also shared new character visuals for Qifrey and Coco, and the character designs could not be more perfect. Comments from the respective voice actors have also been released, further hyping the release. Rena Motomura’s comment reads:

“I’m Motomura Rena, and I’ll be playing the role of Coco. Every time I turn a page, the small everyday events of my childhood and the feelings of longing for dreams come back to me. I identified with Coco and became obsessed with her. The moment I was cast for the role, I was so happy that tears welled up in my eyes before I could even cry. The magical world depicted by Shirahama Kamome has been turned into the best anime. I put my all into playing Coco. I hope it reaches as many people as possible.”

Meanwhile, the official comment from Natsuki Hanae reads:

“I am honored to be playing the important character Qifrey, who has a gentle yet sad gaze and a somewhat mysterious aura. Also, Motomura-san, a junior colleague at the agency, plays the role of Coco, so I think we were able to have a master-disciple-like relationship during the recordings. The fantastical and beautiful world depicted by Shirahama-sensei has been turned into a wonderful animation by Director Watanabe. Please look forward to its airing.”

Witch Hat Atelier Could Be the Whimsical Fix Frieren Fans Have Been Craving

Overall, it’s no exaggeration to say that Witch Hat Atelier might be one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2026. Even while the anime was still in production, Witch Hat Atelier’s manga was bagging major awards, and it’s beyond well-deserved.

The series has endlessly been compared to Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End owing to the fantasy setting and magical elements. However, where Frieren focuses largely on its characters and their personal journeys juxtaposed over a physical journey, Witch Hat Atelier leans more towards a coming-of-age, with more emphasis on the magical aspects and world-building.

Witch Hat Atelier has been especially praised for its fresh and creative magic system, and this might be one of the series’ biggest appeals, particularly for fans of Frieren. More importantly, with season 2 of Frieren releasing in January 2026, Witch Hat Atelier’s Spring 2026 release is perfectly poised to ensure fans continue to get their whimsical fix going into the new year.
