We moved from us to malta in our 70s; Life is Better, SO is Retirement

AFTER LIVING IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FOR 25 YEARS, WE MAVED TO GOZO, MALTA. Be we share this with Strangers, They Often As, “Why?”

IT’S A FAIR QUESTION: WHY DoJ Two americans in their mid-70s leave an oceanfront community in the california redwoods to live on an arid island in the Middle of the Mediterranean?

The short anSwer is that it is SEEED like a great place where we coulud realie ours retirement dream of the world and while living a Quality life on our social security checks.

Now that we’ve live in gozo for three years, we can be happy – and we’ve the more reasons we’re glad we moved.

Adjusting to life in malta haen prety easy

An Older Couple Posing Together and Smiling in Front of a Fountain at Night.

We didn’t have too too issing adjusting to life in malta. The lifestyle, diet, and healthcare have won us over.

    Mary Charlebois and Kevin Scanlon

We had no problem adjusting to malta’s dry, hot summers and mild, wet winters. The Country Gets a Lot of Sunshine, and we don’t miss the months of fog and gray clouds on the Northern California Coast.

Malta is a dual-language Country-maltse and English are the Official Languages-We haven’t had to navigate too many barrier.

All Government Business is CONDUCted in English, and Most Maltese Citizens Speak It. In Part Because of this, Connecting with Our Neighbors has ben easy.

Since Moving to Malta, Our Community Has Been Nothing But Welcoming. We’ve Met Mary People Who Grew Up and Other Expats from AROUND The Globe.

We’re grateful to our neighbors who have been eager to learn about us and share lives and traditions. Have Truly Helped Malta Feel Like Home.

We live Very Comfortable on Our Social Security Checks

Our Cost of Living is Significantly Lower in Malta than it was in California – we’d estimate we spend about 50% less on our bills and essentials than we did back home.

AFTER Conversions, We Spend Less Than $ 1,000 a Month to Rent A 2,000-Square-Foot Fully Fol Luxury Apartment with Views of the Sea. In Northern California, A Place of That Size with Waterfront Views Waled Cost Several Thousands a Mont.

We typically Budget JUST $ 180 or SO for Our Monthly Bills – Electricity, Gas, Water, Thick, Internet, Two Mobile Phones, and A Landline. And we’re able to yarn diet with tons of locally produced, wholesome food with a $ 650 monthly food budget.

Our Social Security Payments Comfortable Cover Our Living Expensa in Malta. We have had Enough Left Over to Add Money to Our Savings Each Month.

SO FAR, WE’VE HAD POSITIVE EXPERIENCES WITH HEALTHCARE

Malta Offers a High Healthcare Standard, Combining Public and Private Services. The National Health Service Provides Free Healthcare to the Citizens, while private options are available for those seing lotter Wait Times.

The healthcare facilities we’ve accessed here are modern, and many medical professionals speak English, MAKING IT ACCESSIBLE FOR EXPATS.

Nor digital nomads, we are required to the private health insurance maintaine. This year, for bot of us, we paid 3,950 euros, or about $ 4,600, for private insurance.

This amout is roughly comparable to social security’s medicare in the us. But our maltse health insurans has no deductible and covers 100% of the Bill.

Addictionally, we’ve found healthcare in malta to be affrodable. A Few Months Ago, for an Entire Emergency-Room Visit, WE PAID ONLY 559 EUROS, WHICH OUR Insurance Company reimbured us for immediately-100%.

We believe that a simillar situation in the US WOULD’VE COST US THOUSANDS.

The Local Lifestyle and Mediterranean Diet have Also Won US Over

We enjoyed a lot of great food in california, but we can have affrford to follow a farterior mediterranean diet in Gozo.

We Prioritize Eating Lots of Fresh Fish and Produce, Plus Fewer Processing Meats. SINCE WE CAN GET A LOT OF LOCAL FOOD FOR A FAIRLY REASONABLE COST, ITS POSSIBLE FOR US TO EAT EVERY MEAL.

At the wednesday Street markets in our village, we purchasen fruit and vegetables that were harvested that day. The Village Butcher Sells Locally Raised Meats Free of Hormones and Added Chemicals.

The Fishmmonger’s Seafood is Seasonally HARVESTED, SOURCED FROM LOCAL AND REGIONAL WATERS. Plus, The Local Bakery’s Famed Maltese Bread and Traditional Maltese Pastries Are Impossible to Resist.

Here’s Better, Market Visits Like This and Stops at Our Village Square for Coffee and Conversation Keep US Connected to the Community. It ‘s all of Gozo’s Wonderfull Slow-Paced Lifestyle.

LIVING IN GOZO HAS EASE MADE OUR RETERIENT DREAMS OF TRAVEL A reality

    An Older Couple Wearing Hats.

The Ease of Travel is Just One of the Mary Ways the Quality of Our Lives Has Vastly Improved.

    Mary Charlebois and Kevin Scanlon

In California, it was expensive and time-consuming to travel to our Dream Destinations ABROAD. Living here, we’ve got closer, cheer, and easier access to many incredible places.

Though it Feels Remote, Malta is an archipelago in the middle of the mediterranean sea that is fairly ideally situated between Europe, Asia, the middle east, and africa.

We’ve been able to use some of the Money We’ve Saved by Living to Travel, Which We’d Always Dreamed of During Our Retirement.

All in all, Since Our Move, we have fal like we’re in better physical and mental shape. We travel all we want. We are happy. We are Living the Dream.

  • I ORDED SAME MEAL AT FREDDY’S AND PORTILLO’S: Comparison, Winner

I ORDED SAME MEAL AT FREDDY’S AND PORTILLO’S: Comparison, Winner

AFTER OPENING MY CHILI CHILI DOG, I WAS Underwhelmed.

The chili was more saucy, with little meat or beans, and there wasn’t much of it. Howver, there was a decent layer of nacho cheese underneath.

Portillo’s use poppy-seed buns for their chili cheese dogs, and though it’s a delicious option, I don’t think it provides the support this dish needs. Although the bread didn’t break, things got messy, and it became more of a hass to eat than the freddy’s option.

Still, the best part of the chili cheese dog was the hot dog itelf. Portilo’s use vienna beef products, The Signature Sausage for a Chicago-Style Hot Dog. Together, the vienna beef hot and poppy-seed bun the chili dog Worth the extra mess.

The chicken tenders tasted good, too, but overall, i disappointed by say. The breading was Thick and Had a Nice Crunch in Some Spots, but it left little to no chicken in other bit.

Since the tenders were fried Fresh, i ripped say in half to allow each to cool faste, but in doing so, the breading started to slide off, leaving me with naked pies of white meat.

Finally, ORDED A LARGE MILKSHKE PORTILLO’S DIDN’T HAVE A MEDIUM OPTION. My Shake Came in a Huge Cup and was $ 0.10 Less than the medium of received at Freddy’s. It tasted like I was drinking a thicker version of Soft Serve Vanilla Ice Cream.

  • More Students Should Consider The Benefits of Community College

More Students Should Consider The Benefits of Community College

For almost a decade, by Tought Composition at A Mid-Size University. I absolutely adored the Campus, My Colleagues, and My Students. Howver, Mary of My Struggled Students.

Some Were at a Traditional 4-Eyar University Becausee Their Parents Expective It. Others Attended Because A University is Generally Viewed as a More prestigious offering we compared to a community College, a trade program, or going directly into the workforce. MANY SIMPLY WERE?

I recently returned to the classroom, this time as a composition instructor at a community College. As someone who Attended Community College MySelf, I am remended of the MANY WAYS Community College Can Be a Wonderful Option that shouldedn’t be overlooked.

    Community College is Less Expensive

Generally Speaking, Attending a community College is less expensive than a traditional 4 -ear university. The aversion Total Cost of Attending Community College for Two Years was $ 7,560 in 2024, Accounting to Education Data InitiativeWhose Researchers Track Education Data. That’s light of saying many students pay for one year of tuition at a private or state university.

Given the Current Economy, It May Make Sense for Some Students to Take a Class is Offered at Both a University and a Community College, One that Transure, at the LES-COSTLY Institution.

Likewise, students Who Commute to Campus, Possibly Living at Home, May Save Money.

Community Colleges May Offer Smaller Class Sizes

In my teaching, i’ve seen that community College Collage Classrooms Have Fewer Students than The Same Course at A University.

This Smaller Student-Teacher Ratio Means a student May Get More Guidance and Attention from Instructor, Possibly Resulting In Better Retenttation of the Material and A Better Grade.

Because of the Type of Class I Teach, My Class Sizes Have Been Capped to A Reasonable Number at Both Types of Institutions, but I know many teachers in other departments do have the same luxury.

Community Colleges offfer an intimate College Experience

With an offten Smaller Campus to Navigate, Fewer Instructors for Department, and evening A Smaller Student Body Depending on the Schools You’re Comparing, A Community College Isn’t Just a Number. In these Intimate Spaces, They Can Get to Know Their Teachers, Their Campus, and Their Peers, Creating More Opportunities for Accountability and Support.

Put Simply, Community College Offers, No Surprise, An Unmmatched Sense of Community. I know some argue that the community college experience isn’t “the real world,” But i believe that a community collegs a student build more soft skills, which are highly souht after by Employers.

Community College Has Services to Help Students

Much like a University, Community College Also Offers the Services They May Net, Such as Veteran Support, Mental Health Counseling, Career Guidance, Library Assistance, Support or Hobby Groups, and Much More.

I’ve also heard from students that it can be easier to plug in at a community College, potentially with short Wait Times for Popular Services.

Community College Can Be A Stepping Stone

For some, community College Can be the Perfect Stepping Stone Between Educational Degrees. There’s Also the Option to ATTEND A Trade Program, Earn a Certificate, or A Special Department (Think Cosmetology or Dental Assistant) and THEN RETURN TO COMMUNITY TO ADD MORE CERTIFICATIONS TO THEIR Resume, Such as Cybersecury or Medical Billing and Coding.

There are Ares of Many Paths to Choose from and the Familiarity of the Community College Experience Can Bring Comfort to A Student, Encouraaging say to Continue in Their Education, SEEing the School as a Place of Safety and Support than Intimidation.
