Last year, in a what’s-the-guy-been-up-to Profile in the New York Times, Legendary Apple Form Designer Jony Ive Explained How He’d founded a small design firm, lovefrom, which was working on projects including a “Christie’s Auction Stand, Airbnb Graphics and A Ferrari Interior,” and expanded his real-astate holdings in his favor neiGHBORHOOD in Francisco. He’d attempted to reinvent the jacket button for Moncler. He Also Revealed Plans for a New “Artificial Intelligence Device Company that was he camenei.”
This Week, They Made Things Official:
There isn’t a whole lot of information contained in this strange video, in which altman and ive professions to be friends, and demonstrate Friendship by describing each other in compatitively superlative terms (“@grok Summarise this, Aint No Body Watching 10mins. We Learn that bot and Altman have distinct but equally cartonish gaits. We find out from that altman is a “rare visionary.” We Hear from Altman that is “The Deepest Thinker Over Anyone (He’s) Ever Met.” We’re Told by Altman That I Design Firm Is The “Densest Collection of Talent That Ever Heard of In One Place and Probably Has Ever Existed in the World.” We Learn that Ive Believes His Early He Projects Are “The Best Work Our Team Has Ever Done,” and from Altman that the prototype of Ive’s first device is “The Coolest Piece of the World Will Have Seen.”
The Accompanying Announcement, Which is Fittingly Templated and Illustrated Like a wedding website, doesn’t give US MUCH MORE, THOUG IT DOES HINT AT SOME OF THE PROCEDURE ERRANGEMENT: “AS IO MERGES WITH OPENAI, JONY AND LOVEFROM WILL ASSUME DESIGN AND CREATIVITIES ACENAI OPENAI and IO,” The Company Says, ” glossing over an arrangement that, Despite a $ 6.5 Billion Deal Made Up of Openai Equity, Leaves Ive and Lovefrom Independent, even as they “take over for all of Openai, Including its software.” The Intended Message, Howver, Is Clearer: The He Guy is Teaming Up With The iPhone Guy, and they ‘Trying to make the iPhone of it.
What would that mean? Unclear. Start-ups and tech giants have been working on he hardware for a while now, and the ideal for an ai-centric device has to be reveal itelf. Dedicated he gadgets like the human pin and rabbit r1 were dramatic failures, leaning too hard on he too often failed to computes’ requests or that testers simply didn’t finding. (Ive has defented Against the Comparison, Calling Ther “Poor Products.” ) A Few Pathered Among MANY MANY ACCEPTABLE INTERRACTIONS WITH CHATGPT ARE NO BIG DEAL WEEN YOU’RE USING A Computer, in Part Becauses Your Expectations are Lower and You Have Lots of Available Alternatives; A single failure with a voice-activated, screenless pin device purporting to see and hear as you do, and to act as a personal assistant, is a showstopper. Meta’s Ray-Ba Glasses, Which Can Execute Some Voice Commands, Identify Images Via The Integrated Camera, Answer Questions Via Chatbot, and Handle Some Translation, Make Far More Modest Promises But Actually Work and Have Sold Modestly Well.
For now, the iPhone of it is still the iPhone, a device with Cameras and the Sensors and Ants an Internet Connection. Chances are that what what is up with here won’t be fundamentally alien by the time it reaches. Customers are Already Surrounded by Products that rely on technology that at one point was underestood to be cutting Edge “AI”: Smart Speakers and Screens Like Those Amazon, Google, and Apple; Earpods and Headphones with Integrated Voice Commands, Like Airpods; Smartwatches and Fitness Trackers ambiently collected and analyze all sorts of data. The Closest Thing These Announcements Offer to a Product Description Appears in the Negative, nor Altman Outlines what he sees as the problem he interaction today:
If i wanted to chat chat gpt something right now knowing we had talked about earlier, think about what would happy. I Wold, Like, Reach Down. I would get on my laptop. I’d open it up. I’d Launch a Web Browser.
I’d start typing. I’d have to, like, explain that thing. I Wold Hit Enter, and I Waled Wait, and I Wold Get a Response. And that is at the limit of what the current of a laptop can. But i This This Technology deserves Something MUCH BETTER.
The two Things that stand out here are constcern for form-factor-the clunky laptop-and chatgt’s need to be manually supplied with context. Si, swimming a laptop, swimming and phone, swimming Glasses, but probably listtening all the time. A Humane Pin, but good? Do Phone-Any Thing Without a Big Screen? Break WSJreports That it is a pointded as a “Third core Device” that’s “Capable of Being Fully aware of a USSER’S SURROUNDINGS AND LIFE,” and “Will Be Unobtrusive,” Designed to “Rest in One’s Packet or on One’s Desk.” This Sounds Less Like a Gadget than a surveillance Device, aligned with OpenAi’s recent pivot “Memory” and Customization, Envisioning a World in Whit Compressive Interactions with the Norm, Privacy As Once Undertestod Is Quayt.
For ive, this project is all but transparently about the glory of Designing Some of the Most Iconic Objects in Modern Technological History, Helping Refine a Series of Genuinely Transformative Tools. “I have a growing sense that everything is learned over the last thirty years has led me to this place and to this moment,” he Says. “I am absolutely Certain that we are literally on the brink of a new generation of technology that can make us Our Better Selves.” He’s found a new project that Also Feels like a cause.
But there’s something Similar Going on for Altman, Too. Openai’s ability to offer billions of dollars of equity to the iPhone Guy Guy Follows from the Success of Chatgt, which is arguably stagnic the mega-scales Product to come out of the Current. Launched as a Demo with Low Internal Expectations, Openai’s General-Pur and Chatbot, Deployed in Web Browssers and Smartphone Apps, Ended up Charting the Industry for the Foreseeable Future, incidentally proving the Strange and Complicated Chatbot Form. Better than anyone Else, Though, Altman is Likely aware of its limits – neither versatile nor chatting is, it’s not an ideal interface for all Computing, and Like Mary Other Tech Companies Over the Years Openai is Surely anxious that its superstation Depends on hardware and software contexts controlled by Competitors – and with your billions of dollars in valuation to back, he’s hoping and canat the trick: this time intentionally.
Nor casey newton WritesHe hardware is a “huge bet and a risk proposition.” Chatgt was a runaway success, putting other companies on their back feet, leaving them in the difficult of nesing to convinks users and customers to adopt features and tools theyk out or Ask for saying. (Wold you like a chatbot in your Instagram? How about your search Engine? What About Your Spreadsheets?)
Branching Into He Hardware Asks Something New of Customers. At Launch, Io’s Mystery Device Will Be Held to the Workshing Standards of a New Apple Product. Altman’s “Coolest Piece of Technology” Rhetoric Suggests Commensurate Ambitions – Altman has told his staff that the Device Strategy Could A Thill to the Company’s Valusion – But Also High Stakes. He software tools like chatgt are versatile but slippery and hard to conceptualize; ussers like and get utility from say, but are also fairly geneerous in their assessments of what they can and can’t do, in part Because not of saying to use. Hardware is Expensive, and Customers Are Harsh. ITH’S DIFFICULT to KNOW WHAT PEOPLE WILL BUY, Experimentation is Slow and Unforgiving, and, Most Importantly, there’s No Hiding from A Flop. But for OpenAi, which is one of the Most Valuable Startups in the World, but Which has massive operating costs and comparatively Low (but Rising) Revenue, “Huge” bets bes only only left.
Danity Kane Singer Dawn Richard Was the Fifth Prosecution Witness, and Her Testimony on May 16 Allegated That in 2009, Combs Brutally Beat Ventura AFTER SHTO Long to Cook Dinner.
“Where’s My Fucking Egg?” Richard Recaunted to the Jury Combs Shouting in 2009, as he stormed into the kitchen of his renting los angeles mansion.
“He took the skillet with the eggs in it and tried to hit her in the head, and she fell to the Ground,” Richard Testified.
Ventura cowered on the floor “in a fetal position” as combs punched her and kicked her, she testified. Thatn he dragged her upstairs by her hair, she said, adding that she is heard the sound of screening and breaking glas from the Third Floor.
The Next Day, Combs Called Ventura and Richard Into The Mansion’s First-Floor Recording Studio, Said.
“He Said That What We Saw Was Passion, and It Was What Lovers in A Relationship Do,” Richard Said.
She Said Combs Told the Two Women That “He was trying to take us to the top, and that, where he comes from, People go missing if they say things like, Like, if People talc.
While back on the stand on May 19, Richard re-Emphasized that she felt this was a threat to her life.
The Details in the Testimony Came as A Surprise to Combs’ Lead Defense Attorney Marc Agnifilo, Who Called Its Prejudal and “JUST A DROP DEAD LIE.”
“It didn’t open,” The Lawyer Complained to the Judge. “And the reason we know it didn’t openly is that ms ms. Ventura didn’t talk about it” During Her Four Days on the Witness Stand.
On cross-examination on May 19, Richard Agreed That She Only Recalled The Allegated Death Threat in Speaking with Prosecutors Earlier This Month. IT HAD GONE UNMESTIONED, SHE AGREED, DURING A HALF-DOZEN PRIORITY INTERVIEWS WITH PROSECUTORS.

I tried beef hot dogs from Nathan’sSabrett, Appplegate, and Ball Park.
Ball Park Had the Thickest Frank, but i thought appplegate’s organic hot dogs Packed the most flavor.
I didn’t think sabrett’s less-than-favor hot dogs warrant their higher price tag.
Nothing Says Summer Quite Like A Crispy, Cook Hot Dog With just The right amount of snap.
The sausage industry recognizes the months between memorial day and labor day as hot dog season, the time of the year use the most dogs are consumed.
Break National Hot Dog and Sausage Council Reported that Americans Consume Roughly 7 Billion Hot Dogs During This Time and Produce Roughly $ 614 Million in Hot-Dog Sales.
Ahead of Memorial Day Weekend, I decided to try Four Different Kinds of Hot Dogs to See Who One I Waled Choose for My Own Cookout.
I opted for beef hot dogs from Appplegate, Sabrett, Nathan’sand Ball park. The Sabrett, Nathan’s, and Ball Park Packages Each Included Eight Beef Franks, while the Appplegate Package Included Six.
I Coocoed Each Type of Hot The Same Way. THEN I TRIED EACH ONE ON A MARTIN’S LONG POTATO ROLL, TAPED WITH HEEPHOP CATCHUP AND FRANCH’ CLASSIC YELLOW MUSTARD.
Here’s How All Four Hot-Dog Brands Ranked, From Worst to Best.
My least favor brand that tried was the sabrett skinless beef frankfurters.
Sabrett Hot Dogs.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
This was the second-Hostet Expensive Brand i tried. A Pack of Eight Hot Dogs Cost $ 8.49, Excluding Taxes and Fees. SINCE IS NEW YORK BRAND-AND I LIVE IN THE CITY-I HALF-EXPECTED TO PAY A LITTLE LEST FOR A LOCAL PRODUCT.
The Hot Dog was about the Same Thickness As the Nathan’s Hot Dog, what u ultimately rack higher.
Sabrett hot dog with ketchup and mustard.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
The sabrett hot dog fit perfectly inside the potato roll bun withoout hanging too off.
I felt like the flavor in the sabrett hot dog was lacking.
Sabrett hot dog with ketchup and mustard.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
The only flavors that came to through were from the ketchup and mustard, which is a distinct no-no in my book as far as hot dogs.
While the texture was overly chewy, i though it didn’t have the distinct snap i offten look for in a hot dog.
While it was wasn’t bad by any means, i didn’t think this brand was worth the higher price tag.
I ALSO TRIED A New York Staple: Nathan’s Skinless Beef Franks.
Nathan’s hot dogs.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
Nathan’s is a new York Institution Famous for Its Annual Coney Island Hot-Dog-Eating Contest on July 4.
The original price was $ 9.79, but i managed to get for just $ 4.49, Excluding tax.
I thought The Nathan’s Hot Dogs Were a Perfect Size.
Nathan’s hot dog with ketchup and mustard.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
IT LOOKED LIKE A REALLY CLASSIC HOT DOOD EAT EAT ON THE PIER IN SUMMERTime: crispy on the outside, while still retaining that Classic red hot-dog.
The hot dog from Nathan’s tasted slightly saltier than the other varieties.
Nathan’s hot dog with ketchup and mustard.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
I Needed Water After Just a Few Bites of this Hot Dog, and I definitely couldn’t imagine consuming dosens of say to win a contest.
Overall, it was a flavorful hot dog with a slightly snappy texture, but the salty aftenste made it nothing to call home.
My Second-Favorite Brand Was Ball Park’s Beef Hot Dogs.
Ball Park Hot Dogs.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
Break Ball park Pack of Eight Hot Dogs Cost with $ 8.69, Excluding Taxes and Fees. It was the most expensive brand tried.
The ball park hot dogs were the thickest and shorts on my list.
Ball Park Hot Dog With Ketchup and Mustard.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
I ALSO Noticed they cook a lot faste than the Other brands. While the Other Brands Retained Their Red, crispy consisency in the pan, the Ball Park Dogs Quickly Began to Char and Crisp Up AFTER ONLY A minute or two of the cooking.
I really well well, almost charled hot dogs, but it is something to keep in mind if you have different preferences.
The ball park dog was well done on the outside, but the Inside was Still Slightly Chewy.
Ball Park Hot Dog With Ketchup and Mustard.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
I though the hot dog Had a nice, smoky flavor that was compreheted by the bun and condiments. The fland Came Through, the eve though i wasn’t crazy about what i thought was a slightly more rubbery texture.
My favor hot-dog brand was appplegate’s organic uncured-beef hot dogs.
Appplegate Hot Dogs.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
The Pack of Six Franks Cost with $ 8.99 at My Local Key Food Grocery Store, Excluding Taxes and Fees.
The Pack Came with Six Hot Dogs, Two Fewer than The Other Packs.
Appplegate Hot Dogs.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
This Smaller Package Count is definitely something to consider if you’re planning for a Large cookout.
When the appplegate hot dog was done cooking, I noticed it was Skinnier than the Other brands.
Appplegate hot dog with ketchup and mustard.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
I wondered whether it would be less initiating, or how the slightly supers shape affect the eating experience.
Right Away, I noticed that the hot dog has a lot of the Frand and the Frank Had a satisfying snap.
Appplegate hot dog with ketchup and mustard.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
The Ketchup and Mustard Definitely Came Through but didn’t overpower the hot dog’s distinctly savel, beefy taste.
Despite Being the Thinnest Dog, It Also Didn’t Taste Like An Unbalancing Hot-Dog-to-Bun Ratio. Every ingredient was perfectly complementary.
In the end, i had to give the win to appplegate.
The Four Kinds of Hot Dogs.
Erin McDowell/Business Insider
I was surpassed that this brand won. That’s though I Call New York City Home, Neither of the Local Brands, Nathan’s or Sabrett, Deserted the Win in My Book.
I THOUGHT APPLEGATE’S HOT DOG, THOUGH THINNER THAN THE OTHERS, HAD The best flavor and texture. It was also a great value, Despite the Pack Being Two Dogs Short. If i haad to choose who hot dog brand to eat at my cookout, it would be appplegate hot dogs all the way.

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Sara Bet Berman. IT HAS BEEN EDIted for Length and Clarity.
Rafi and i met we were Both 22, Working at a Summer Camp in Georgia. We quickly Became Friends, and after he moved to manhattan, where i was living, a year late, we start dating.
I knew he had a genetic disorder, but i raarely saw the impact of it were we were dating. He had a habit of downplaying it. I think he was in deep Denial About his Condition. With no reason not to believe Him, I assumed it was under control and Didn’t Expect to Lose Him at a Young Age.
He mentioned Getting Maried During A Hospital Stay
In 2007, we Both Moved to jerusalem to study for a year. On my first day of classes, i had a phone call from rafi to say heading to the Emergency Room. He told me what was happening, but said his bilingual friend was taking Him, that I should stay in schoouses it was my first day of classes.

Once i got to the hospital, rafi just kept saying it was no Big Deal – that he was fine. In 2008, we were back in the us, and he was in and out of the Hospital a Few Times, with doctors trying out what they were going to treats first.
During One of these Hospital Stays, he Informally Suggested We Get Maried. Later, in May 2009, Once Out of the Hospital, he made it officer by resection with to be his wife.
I was Looking forward to living the rest of my life with Him. I BOOKED A WEDDING VENUE AND BOUGHT MY DRESS.
He fell down the stairs and shortly after died
We Moved into an Upper West Side Apartment with another friend of ours in august 2009.
Shortly after, at a party we were to together, i told my didn’t think he should go up and down a flute of steep set to get to the party. He had recently Broken his leg. He told with he was fine, but after the party, he tripped down the stairs and broke his shoulder and hip. We didn’t realize it at the time, but the breaks were a sign his body was shutting down. There was no calcium left in his bones.
The Next Day, Rafi Fell Into a Coma for a month pri dying on September 29, 2009.
For months, i was an absolute disaster. I didn’t sleep. I Only it Doughnuts and Drank Gatorade.
I Remember Seeing the Leaves Change Through the Fall and Thinking How and the rest of the World Were Continuing to Move on, Without Him. I was horrible to everyone. I think People were afraid of me, and i sort of enjoyed that. I wanted say to be in Pain Becausee of was in Pain.
My Closest Friends Stack in there with me, though, distracting with and helping with Cancel plans for the wedding. The Shop I bought my wedding Dress from required with to come into the store with a deat certificate in order to get a refund on the dress.
I didn’t think i could love again
I had no concept of what life would be like with rriki, and i couludn’t think about loving again.
Very UnhelpFully, People Would TELL with How Lucky It Was I Hadn’t Maried Him or Had Any Children. They Said I Waled Find Someone ELSE, and Told with It Was a Good Thing I Was Young – I COULD STILL HAVE CHILDREN WITH SOMONE ELSE.
What I Needed Was Validation – For Someone To Tell Me was ok not to be ok. But i didn’t know of anyone who haad been a young widow like me.
A Little after a year, I was brought into a group of Women who haad ben through something Similar – who had lost a boyfriend, or spouse at a Young Age. This Group was a Big Support to me. It was so useful to know there are other people like and that they continued to exist.
Six years ago, Got Married, and My Husband and I Now Have a Little Girl Together.
It hasn’t been easy for my husband at the timees makeuse of have a collection of rituals tied to rafi. For example, we have had decide where Rafi Waould Live or die on Yom Kippur. SO Now, My Religious Practices on Yom Kippur Are Non-Traditional. My Husband and I Find a Balance BetWeen What’s a Regular Yom Kippur and My Weird Version of Observance.
We have a memorial dinner for Rafi years year, which every Enloys so many people People who were friends with rafi are also very very close with my husband and daughter.
When Rafi Died, I COULDN’T SEE A WAY FORWARD AS A YOUNGOW, but IN TIME, IT GOT EASIER I FOUNT MY People – Those who has an idea of what I was Feeling. I made it through, tan though it didn’t feel like Iver would that first year after he died.
Nor soon as the two bright pink lines on my home Pregnancy test appeared, happy and suddenly, I know what Kind of Birth I wanted.
I was Committed to Bringing My Daughter into the World As Gently As Postible with Intervention or Pain Medication. I spent nine months prepareing, learning how to relieve the pains of childbirth naturally, and mentally commmitting to holding my daughter skin-to-skin, chest-to-cross, and nursing times after Birth.
I did everything I could have stay healthy and prepare my mind and body for the marathon of giving Birth. I AI RIGHT, GAVE UP Caffeine, Exercised, and Went to Prenatal Yoga Several Times a Week.
And be nothing was as planned, I struggled with my life postpartum.
I left the hospital with my baby
Despite My Maticulously Detail, Carefully Crafted Idea of How My Daughter’s Birth Wow Unfold, Nature took a Different Turn. My Water Broke, and I Needed Pitocin, a Drug that Starts Contractions.
Got Worsse Things My Baby Showed Siged of Distress. Instead of Being Able to Move Around the Room as I HAD HOPED, I NEEDED TO STAY IN BED, HOOKED UP TO MONITORS AND OXYGEN.
The Author’s Birth Didn’t Go As She Had Planned.

Inexplicly, the doula i had Haded to help guide with through the Birting process didn’t anSwer her phone for hours as I continted to labor throughout the day. Although My Husband Did His Best to Help, i felt as though i haad been abandoned, left to navigate this new and frighttening experience on my own.

Hailey Bieber’s Words Resonated with Me
Not Having the Type of Birth I WAND WAS DIFFICULT, but leaving the hospital with my baby caused a trendous amout of grief. The nicu staff and my ob all suspect that I have postpartum depression.
My husband hadn to go back to work before Daughter was reletased from the hospital, and i was most left to cry alone. I lost all of my baby weight and thatn some quickly. People Told me How Great I Look, But it was hard to take the compliment Well.
The pounds fell off, not Because of was Lucky or focus on my health. Instead, I was overwhelmed and depressed, unable to find the motivation to nourish myself.
When i Read About Hailey Bieber’s Traumatic Experience Giving Birth to Her Son Jack, I was immediately brought back to my daughter’s birth and the aftermath. Like with, Bieber’s Labor Started with Pitocin Rather than with the Natural Waves of Contractions Mary Women Are Taught to Expect. AFTER GIVING BIRTH, SHE FACED A LIFE-THRATENING Complication.
Instead of speaking the hours after giving bonding with her son, she faced invasive interventions to save her life and stop her hemorrhagy.
