  • These are the best sunscreens for sensitive skin in 2025, tested and reviewed

These are the best sunscreens for sensitive skin in 2025, tested and reviewed

Sensitive skin can be a challenge to care for generally, but it can particularly make finding a high-quality, easy to tolerate sunscreen difficult. If your skin is easily irritated (or you suffer from skin conditions like rosacea or eczema), many SPF formulas can be at least pore clogging, if not itchy and seriously uncomfortable. We all know UV rays are damaging and even dangerous, which makes finding the best sunscreen for sensitive skin — one you’ll actually use and maybe even enjoy — of critical importance. This is primarily for your health (according to the American Cancer Society, 5.4 million basal and squamous cell skin cancers are diagnosed in the U.S. each year) but most of also to avoid the signs of premature aging.

“Most people think sunscreen is only about blocking harmful UV rays, but it is important to emphasize that hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, photo-damage all contribute to looking weathered and more aged,” says Los Angeles dermatologist and facial plastic surgeon Dr. Kay Durairaj. “As skin ages, it also becomes more vulnerable to UV damage, which can both exacerbate signs of aging and increase the risk of skin cancer.”

We consulted skin experts and tested dozens of SPF products — here are the best sunscreens for sensitive skin we’ve found.

    Table of contents

Update, Feb. 26, 2025: We checked all product prices and availability and re-tested our top choices. Our number one pick for the best sunscreen for sensitive skin remains unchanged.

The overall best sunscreen for sensitive skin

Image for the large product module

    EltaMD

    Active Ingredients: Zinc oxide | SPF: 46 | Size: 1.7 ounces | Water-Resistant: Yes | Reef Safe: No | Cruelty-Free: No

This standout mineral sunscreen with zinc oxide was recommended by most every dermatologist I interviewed. It’s exceptionally good for dry, sensitive or mature skin and is packed with ingredients like hyaluronic acid to keep your face looking dewy. Of note: EltaMD is both a mineral and chemical SPF, so the texture feels smooth going on and it is absorbed fast. It’s also noncomedogenic and fragrance- and oil-free.

The brand also recently released a new mineral sunscreen we’re excited to try. Check out EltaMD UV Skin Recovery Broad Spectrum SPF 50, which we featured on our list of the most-anticipated products of the month.

    Pros
    • Fast absorbing
    • Noncomedogenic, fragrance- and oil-free
    • Smooth texture
    • Broad-spectrum coverage
    • No white cast

Other top sunscreens for sensitive skin we recommend for 2025

Image for the large product module

    La Roche-Posay

Active Ingredients: Titanium dioxide, iron oxides | SPF: 50 | Size: 1.7 ounces | Water-Resistant: Yes | Reef Safe: Yes | Cruelty-Free: No

The award-winning La Roche-Posay Anthelios sunscreen is considered among the best in the world. The texture is lightweight, almost watery (like a thin day cream), which soaked into my skin on contact.

Once on, the formula looked natural, with no greasy feel, no stickiness and no glossy sheen. In fact, this is my only complaint about the Anthelios face sunscreens: They’re matte, which is not always the best for mature skin. On the plus side, they’re fragrance-free, and, even when I went super close to my eyes, the cream didn’t sting. All in all, I’d give the application experience a 9/10.

You can read my in-depth review of La Roche-Posay Anthelios sunscreen here.

    Pros
    • Lightweight
    • Smooth, easy application
    • Leaves skin feeling soft
    • Reef safe
    • Protects and nourishes skin
    Cons
    • Pricey
    • Matte finish can be a tiny bit ghostly
    $35 at Amazon
Image for the large product module

    DERMA-E

SPF: 30 | Broad Spectrum: Yes | Water-Resistant: No | Mineral or Chemical: Mineral | Active Ingredients: Zinc oxide 20%

This unscented formula is safe for sensitive skin — it’s made with fast-absorbing zinc oxide and is packed with bonus wellness ingredients like vitamin C and green tea to help quell irritation.

Derma-E’s Sun Defense facial sunscreen is 100% fragrance-free, and that vitamin C and green tea we mentioned help fight the signs of aging and help skin to recover after sun exposure. The physical sunscreen’s zinc oxide provides broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sun protection, and it’s oil-free so it won’t clog your pores.

    Pros
    • Oil-free
    • Fragrance-free
    • Contains anti-inflammatory green tea
    • Broad-spectrum SPF
    • Affordable
    $24 at Amazon
Image for the large product module

    CeraVe

Active Ingredients: Titanium dioxide, zinc oxide | SPF: 30 | Size: 1.7 ounces | Water-Resistant: No | Reef Safe: No | Cruelty-Free: No

The “universal” tint in this tinted SPF 30 sunscreen blends into many skin tones and the mineral-based formula provides broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays while — thanks to skin-hydrating ceramides and niacinamide — locking in moisture. Keep in mind, it’s not water-resistant nor reef safe, so not your best pick at the beach. Still, at $13, it’s a quality sunscreen for everyday use.

    Pros
    • Strong SPF protection
    • Trusted skin care brand
    • Good for sensitive skin
    • Tint blends into most skin tones
    • Moisturizing
    Cons
    • Not reef safe
    • Not water-resistant
    $14 at Amazon
Image for the large product module

    Cotz

    Active Ingredients: Zinc oxide | SPF: 40 | Size: 3.5 ounces | Water-Resistant: Yes | Reef Safe: Yes | Cruelty-Free: Yes

Cotz was founded in 2002 by reconstructive plastic surgeon Dr. Harry Fallick, who set out to make a gentle, versatile everyday sunscreen his patients would actually use. The result is this water-resistant SPF 40 mineral sunscreen, which not only protects but also soothes sensitive skin. The ultra-silky cream is reef-friendly and free of dyes, fragrances, oils, preservatives, gluten and phthalates.

    Pros
    • Broad-spectrum coverage
    • Works for body and face
    • No white cast on most skin tones
    • Fragrance-free
    • Reef safe
    Cons
    • Texture may be too gloopy for some users
    $30 at Cotz
Image for the large product module

    Supergoop!

    Active Ingredients: Avobenzone, 3%, homosalate 8%, octisalate 5%, octocrylene 4% | SPF: 40 | Size: 1.7 ounces | Water-Resistant: Yes | Reef Safe: Yes | Cruelty-Free: Yes

If you are looking for a sunscreen that also acts as a makeup primer OR need your sun protection to be completely invisible (i.e., no sheen), this one’s for you. It’s scent-free and weightless, and provides SPF 40 protection. A “clean” chemical sunscreen, this wildly popular formula is free of oxybenzone and octinoxate. Though anyone can use it, it works particularly well for oily or acne-prone skin.

Supergoop has a range of sunscreens that we’ve tested; each is formulated to be gentle on sensitive skin.

    Pros
    • Invisible
    • Weightless
    • Good for oily and acne-prone skin
    • Doubles as a makeup primer
    Cons
    • Matte finish (not the best for mature skin)
    • Pricey
    $38 at Amazon
Image for the large product module

    Beauty of Joseon

Active Ingredients: dibutyl adipate, propanediol, diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate | SPF: 50 | Size: 1.7 ounces | Water-Resistant: No | Reef Safe: No | Cruelty-Free: Yes

Relief Sun offers powerful broad-spectrum SPF 50+ PA++++, is lightweight, ultramoisturizing and absorbs quickly with little to zero white cast. Highly concentrated rice extract, niacinamide and probiotics serve to both soften skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines. This is an “organic” chemical sunscreen, free of irritating chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate.

You can read my in-depth review of Beauty of Joseon Relief Sun here.

    Pros
    • Absorbs into skin quickly
    • Offers potent sun protection
    • Ultra hydrating
    • Lightweight texture
    • No white cast
    • Affordable
    • Suitable for all skin types

Factors to consider when choosing sunscreen for sensitive skin

    • Active ingredients: Opt for mineral sunscreens that contain zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. In most cases, look for those without fragrance.

    • SPF: The American Academy of Dermatology Association (AADA) recommends a minimum SPF of 30. Make sure you’re using broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays.

    • Water resistance: No sunscreen is waterproof, but some are water resistant. Water-resistant sunscreen protects for at least 40 — and up to 80 — minutes while you’re in the water, according to the AADA. “This is important when swimming or doing recreational activities that involve sweating, since both water and sweat wash off sunscreen and make it less effective,” explains Elma Baron, a professor in the department of dermatology at the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine.

    • Reef-safe: Consumers should be somewhat skeptical of the terms “reef-safe” or “reef-friendly” as these categories are not regulated by the FDA. The best way to determine whether your sunscreen is reef-safe is to check the ingredients. The National Park Service says mineral sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium oxide are less likely to harm coral reefs.

    • Cruelty-free: Unfortunately, the FDA also does not regulate the term “cruelty-free.” Brands can call a product cruelty-free if the final item hasn’t been tested on animals but the ingredients or formulations may have been. However, you can check for PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies certification on your sunscreen bottle or tube — it indicates the product has not been tested on animals and doesn’t contain any animal-derived ingredients.

    How we tested

We consulted dermatologists and estheticians who recommended over a dozen sunscreens. We tested these recommendations (and reviewed some with more depth, including La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral Sunscreen, Supergoop sunscreens and Beauty of Joseon’s Relief Sun). We then based our rankings on efficacy, ingredient quality, texture and value.

    FAQs

What’s the best kind of sunscreen for sensitive skin?

“For individuals with sensitive skin, mineral sunscreens, also known as physical blockers, are often the most suitable choice,” says Durairaj. “These sunscreens contain active mineral ingredients, typically zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which work by sitting on top of the skin to physically block and reflect harmful UV rays away from the skin. Unlike chemical sunscreens, which absorb UV rays and transform them into heat, mineral sunscreens provide a barrier that is less likely to cause irritation or allergic reactions, making them ideal for sensitive and mature skin types.” It’s important to note that while mineral sunscreens tend to be more natural, in certain cases (as you’ll see in our list below), chemical formulas may work best for your particular skin. Both chemical and mineral sunscreens are considered safe and effective by the American Academy of Dermatology. Those with sensitive skin may also benefit from the use of tinted sunscreens, many of which smooth facial blemishes and even reduce redness.

Experts also recommend evaluating the coverage: “Not all sun protectants guard against both UVA and UVB rays, which is important. Always look for something that is broad spectrum, meaning it covers both types of damaging rays,” explains cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Ava Shamban. While broad-spectrum coverage is crucial for anyone — including those with sensitive skin — Shamban emphasizes that a higher SPF number is not always better: “The American Association of Dermatology recommends a minimum of SPF 30 with the reason that a broad-spectrum product will protect against 97% of the UVA / UVB rays. This means higher SPF (50, 70 or 90) products, which are often considerably more expensive, actually offer minuscule amounts of additional protection. Above 50 is ultimately not necessary.”

Last, says Shamban, it’s important to educate yourself on an SPF product’s ingredients: “Certain formulas contain fragrances, essential oils, chemical filters or other preservatives that can aggravate a sensitive or super delicate complexion. Look for fragrance free!”

Experts I spoke with additionally recommended seeking out oil-free sunscreens, and, if you suffer from skin-drying conditions like eczema, those with moisturizing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides.

If your skin is extra picky, always spot test a new product over a few days on a non-face area, like a wrist, to see how you react.

Is SPF 50 too much for sensitive skin?

SPF stands for sunburn protection factor, meaning how much UVB light the sunscreen can filter out. For example, a sunscreen with SPF 15 filters 93% and SPF 30 filters 97%. No sunscreen can protect you 100%. The AADA recommends using a sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 30 broad spectrum protection.

    Is there a hypoallergenic sunscreen?

Sunscreen that’s hypoallergenic, or made for sensitive skin, should contain zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide, and have no fragrance, para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), oils, or any chemical sunscreen active ingredients. These ingredients can irritate sensitive skin, per the AADA. Check your sunscreen’s ingredients.

What’s the difference between chemical sunscreen and mineral sunscreen?

A chemical sunscreen doesn’t contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, while mineral sunscreens have one or both of these ingredients. The best sunscreen for sensitive skin is mineral sunscreen. They work differently, as Baron explains the “simplest way to think about it is that chemical sunscreens absorb UV,” while, “mineral or physical sunscreens block UV.”

  • The best iced coffee makers for 2025, tested and reviewed

The best iced coffee makers for 2025, tested and reviewed

There’s nothing like a caffeinated brew to kickstart or restart a long day for a coffee drinker. And if you’re going to purchase a drip coffee maker anyway, why not spring for one that can also serve that brew chilled? The best iced coffee makers for 2025 take it up a notch (sometimes, quite literally) with custom size and pour settings, along with fancy frothers and digital displays.

Ready to tap into barista mode? Keep scrolling for a mix of savvy single-serves, not-so-traditional carafes and hard-working hybrids that will empower you to create made-to-order concoctions without leaving the house or breaking the bank (in 2021, the average U.S. woman spent $2,327 a year on coffee — ouch). In addition to our top picks, we’ve included info on our testing process, aka how these coffee makers managed to stand up to our thorough review, along with tips for selecting the best iced coffee maker for you. We’ve also rounded up the best cold-brew coffee makers.

    Table of contents

A quick note before we dive in: Every iced coffee maker on this list was vetted and tested by Yahoo editors who take their caffeine (a little too) seriously. Each model came fully assembled, sans grinder, so all we had to do was add water and coffee grounds (versus coffee beans) and use the occasional accessory. While taste is subjective, we used the same coffee with each machine, varying brewing methods based on directions, in an attempt to control for strength, acidity and sediment.

Update, May 2, 2025: We checked all product prices and availability and added a handy specs chart below. Our number one pick for the best iced coffee maker remains unchanged.

    Best iced coffee maker overall

Image for the large product module

    Kristin Granero/Yahoo

Machine size: 15.54″H x 11.39″W x 9.13″D | Water tank capacity: 60 ounces | Brew style: Pod or basket | Servings: 6, 8, 10, and 12 ounces, plus carafe option | Modes: Classic, rich, over ice, specialty

This Ninja offers the bells and whistles you might find at your favorite coffee shop without taking up too much counter space. Bonus: It’s really easy to operate.

How it works: You can pop in a coffee pod for single servings of iced coffee or slide the top portion up and insert a paper filter and coffee grounds for multiple servings. A scoop secured alongside the machine helps measure grounds. Turn the dial to select coffee size and tap the touchscreen commands to select coffee style (classic, rich, over ice or specialty). There’s a drip-stop toggle to ensure nothing leaks when the pour is in motion and a self-cleaning function that takes care of the dirty work post-brewing.

Why it’s great: As with some other machines on our list, you can also brew hot coffee, whether you want a single serving or a carafe. The fact that the Ninja DualBrew accommodates pods is convenient, especially for those who like the ease of being able to whip up a cup quickly or switch up their coffee strengths and flavors throughout the day. There’s a little tray that folds down where the carafe would usually sit to support cups while preserving space.

What really sets this machine apart, however, is the speed at which it operates. At about 75 seconds for a 12-ounce cup, it had the quickest yield among those we tested. Also stellar: The integrity of the iced coffee it produces, which was cold and strong with little ice melt or sediment — the closest to what we’d find at a specialty coffee shop. The water reservoir is substantial, and there’s a fold-out frother for adding foam to hot or cold beverages. The (mostly) touchscreen display — with graphics — adds visibility while making your kitchen feel like a high-end café. I have this in my own home, and it’s always popular with guests when they visit. FYI: This machine also made it to the top of our list for best single-serve coffee makers.

    Pros
    • Lightest ice melt
    • Fastest coffee yield
    • Bright LCD display
    • Fold-out frother
    • Self-cleaning
    Cons
    • You need to use a pod or paper filter (though there are reusable options for purchase)
    • You have to hold the frother button down

More top iced coffee makers we recommend for 2025

Image for the large product module

    Kristin Granero/Yahoo

    Machine size: 14.5″H x 7.3″W x 11.4″D | Water tank capacity: 13 ounces | Brew style: Basket | Servings: 13 ounces | Modes: Iced

Looking for a budget- and tumbler-friendly option? This simple model is a solid bet.

How it works: It comes pretty much ready to go, and setup is a breeze. You fill the enclosed tumbler up to the water line, then pour that water into the water reservoir, which is under the filter basket. Use the enclosed scoop to measure the grounds and dump them into the reusable filter basket. Fill the tumbler with ice up to the ice line, place the tumbler under the pourer and plug in the machine. When the coffee is finished pouring, you close the drip stop to avoid spilling. Screw the lid on the tumbler and pop in the straw — now you’re ready to take your drink on the go.

Why it’s great: Aside from being incredibly straightforward, this gadget is fairly quick, yielding a 13-ounce coffee in under two minutes every time. It’s also very compact and lightweight — only 1.4 pounds, making it the most portable of any option we evaluated. And while we experienced slight ice melt in our tests (more than with the Ninja DualBrew), the coffee we brewed still held up pretty well in terms of strength and taste. Hot tip: The top portion releases steam, so you’ll want to keep a little distance when brewing.

If you want to make hot coffee too, consider the Mr. Coffee Iced and Hot Coffee Maker, reviewed below, for a dual-brew option with more customization.

    Pros
    • Lightweight and portable
    • Budget-friendly
    • Reusable basket
    • Includes tumbler
    Cons
    • Only one coffee mode
    • Only one coffee size
    • Some ice melt
    • A little noisier than other machines
    $26 at Amazon
Image for the large product module

    Kristin Granero/Yahoo

Machine size: 15″H x 13″W x 7.1″D | Water tank capacity: 50 ounces | Brew style: Basket | Servings: 6, 8, 12, 14 and 20 ounces, plus carafe option | Modes: Over ice, cold brew, gold, bold, keep warm

How it works: Like a charm! Add water to the reservoir and coffee grounds to the reusable filter basket, portioning your grounds based on desired strength and serving (you can do single serve or make a larger pot). Similar to the Ninja DualBrew, a small cup rest flips down — this time from the side of where the carafe would typically be. Press one of the touchscreen buttons to choose your coffee mode and turn the dial to select the size.

Why it’s great: You can choose from a range of brew modes (cold brew, over ice, gold and bold) and sizes (6-, 8-, 12-, 14- or 20-ounce, plus carafe options). The machine whips up a 12-ounce cup of pour-over style iced coffee in under two minutes and up to five cups of cold brew-style coffee in under five. Both modes yielded strong, smooth coffee like the Ninja, leaving no sediment or grinds. The water reservoir is substantial (at 50 ounces, just behind the Ninja DualBrew) and there’s a handle for easy carrying from the sink to the counter. There are also automatic shutoff, drip-stop and self-cleaning functions, along with a warming setting. We’d recommend this machine to anyone who prizes being able to make cold brew over being able to use single-serve pods (as they aren’t compatible with this machine) and wants a competitively priced coffee maker. More cold brew coffee makers, including cold brew concentrate systems, right this way…

    Pros
    • Light ice melt
    • Bright LCD display
    • Cold brew and warmer options
    • Self-cleaning
    Cons
    • Doesn’t support pods
    • Wider than other best picks

What to look for when choosing an iced coffee maker

A tester shows how to brew coffee using the Braun MultiServe Iced Coffee Maker for Yahoo's Best Iced Coffee Maker guide.
    • Basket type: Larger coffee baskets support more grounds, allowing you to make more coffee at once. Single-serve options are great for individuals who want to brew a cold cup of coffee stat, in general or throughout the day, versus having to reheat a pot made earlier on. Higher-end machines such as the Ninja DualBrew offer the flexibility to toggle between the two. Reusable baskets will save you (and the environment) on single-use filters and pods in the long run and can be purchased separately on Amazon.

    • Brew style: Multifunction and multicapacity coffee makers offer more versatility and minimize the amount of appliances piling up in your kitchen. Built-in accessories such as frothers allow you to get more creative with your beverages and reduce the need for additional equipment cluttering your drawers.

    • Machine size: Iced coffee makers that offer multiple brew styles and larger water reservoirs and carafes are versatile and convenient, but they take up more counter space. We suggest looking for machines that leverage vertical space, ideally with retractable features (such as the Ninja DualBrew, which is narrow and has a fold-out frother and cup tray) for smaller kitchens.

    • Water capacity: The larger the water reservoir, the more coffee you can churn out without refilling. This is particularly useful for larger families. The catch: Machines with larger water reservoirs tend to take up more space. Regardless of size, we suggest you replace the water and clean out reservoirs regularly to keep your machine clean and your coffee tasting great.

A tester shows how to use the frother on the Ninja DualBrew Iced Coffee Maker for Yahoo's Best Iced Coffee Maker guide.

Foam party: Fancy accessories, like the Ninja’s built-in frother, add to the customization and fun. (Kristin Granero/Yahoo)

    How we tested

We tested these iced coffee makers by — you guessed it — making a lot of iced coffee! We evaluated them based on form and function along with practicality (ease of setup and overall use) and versatility (range of features and accessories). We also factored in speed, which is particularly important when it comes to those early-morning meetings. We followed product guidelines closely, while using the same type and portion of coffee grounds (loose and pod cups) for each model. While taste is subjective, we had the same testers evaluate the integrity of the final product, paying attention to things like strength, acidity and whether any sediment was left at the bottom.

Other iced coffee makers we tested

Making iced coffee is a full-time job! Here are some others we evaluated during our shifts:

Mr. Coffee Iced and Hot Coffee Maker: This under-$60 model is similar to the Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker reviewed above but for more, you also get a hot coffee function. A few other distinctions: The built-in water reservoir is behind the filter basket, not below, and there are two buttons along the side to select the mode (the brewing process won’t start until selected, so the machine can be plugged in the whole time). It took a bit longer to yield a full tumbler of iced coffee, but only by about 20 seconds. The coffee integrity was similar to that of the Mr. Coffee Iced Coffee Maker.

Mr. Coffee Frappe: For $120, this model lets you brew both hot and cold coffee, with the bonus of being able to blend your cold brew with ice (frappé-style). It’s incredibly versatile and easy to use: Just press the power button, go through the same motions as the other Mr. Coffee machines and select your mode to start brewing or blending. Although this model is slightly wider and heavier (and therefore less portable), the chrome tray on the bottom makes it feel more elevated than the other Mr. Coffee machines, and it’s a blast to use. It’s a good option for a frozen-drink lover who doesn’t own a blender or likes the idea of having everything in a dedicated station.

Energy shots: For the test, small cups are labeled with various iced coffee maker names, to be filled with respective brews and tasted over the course of a few days. (Kristin Granero/Yahoo)

Keurig K-Slim + Iced Single-Serve Coffee Maker: This (usually $130, now $100) machine uses the same streamlined single-serve pod function as other Keurigs, but with more range and precision. You can choose from three coffee modes (iced, hot and strong) and three size options (8, 10 and 12 ounces). In testing, the machine was fairly quiet and, despite being pour-over style, there wasn’t too much ice melt, so the coffee stayed strong with very little sediment. It came in second place for fastest yield time, taking only about one-and-a-half minutes to make a 12-ounce cup. Despite not having a self-cleaning function, it was really easy to maintain. For about $40 more than a regular (Keurig single-serve) coffee maker, it’s a worthy splurge for anyone who has a small space or family and wants to be able to whip up a quick cup of iced coffee at home.

Ninja XL Hot and Iced Coffee Maker: Like the Ninja DualBrew, this $130 model specializes in hot and pour-over iced coffee, single or carafe-style, with the added benefit of being able to make cold brew (there’s a warming option too, for hot coffee). At 40 ounces, the water reservoir is slightly smaller and it’s positioned on the upper portion of the machine so it doesn’t add a lot of width, though the model is still wider than the DualBrew. The pour-over coffee tasted similar to the DualBrew, and the cold brew was strong. The yield time of 1 minute, 40 seconds was a bit longer and the display slightly less sophisticated, and there’s no frother. Still, this is a good choice for anyone with a bit more counter space who doesn’t plan to use pods or likes the option of cold brew. It also rings in at a slightly lower price than the DualBrew.

Cuisinart Hot and Iced Coffee Maker: Cuisinart thought of almost everything when making this $150 machine. It serves up hot and pour-over iced coffee, single-serve or carafe style, in a range of sizes. It has a clean interface with digital time display, and there are automatic shutoff and self-cleaning features. It comes with a reusable pod and filter basket. Why it didn’t make our top three: We experienced more ice melt with this machine than the Ninja and Braun, and the yield took longer (1 minute, 48 seconds for a 12-ounce coffee). We wish it had a drip stop like the Ninja and Braun machines, and we appreciated the visibility that came with those machines’ (mostly) touchscreen LCD displays. But if you’re OK with your coffee being a little lighter — or chilling it in the fridge for a little bit before pouring it over ice — this Cuisinart is a solid option for someone who likes to toggle between filter baskets and pods, plus hot and cold temperatures, without having to purchase paper filters or single-use pod cups.

Iced coffee maker and cold brew maker FAQs

How do iced coffee makers and cold brew makers work?

Most of the automated pour-over iced coffee makers we tested start the brewing process with hot water to extract as much flavor as possible, then switch to cool water to minimize ice melt once the coffee is actually poured. The process can take as little as a minute.

Cold brew makers let you steep coffee grounds directly into room-temperature water, usually via a filter to eliminate the transfer of sediment or grounds. The steeped coffee then sits in the water eight to 24 hours depending on desired strength until it’s ready to drink, making it a good “prep ahead and batch” option to keep in your fridge.

What are the different types of iced coffee?

Generally speaking, there are two ways to make iced coffee. One is pour-over style, which involves brewing hot coffee the traditional way but with less water, and ideally allowing it to chill before adding ice to avoid melting, which dilutes the flavor. The other way is made using a cold brew system, or steeping coffee grounds in cool water to create a stronger coffee concentrate, then diluting it with water or milk and pouring the chilled (or at least room-temperature) liquid over ice.

How long do you refrigerate iced coffee?

In our research, we saw that the shelf life for iced coffee ranges from two days to two weeks. We suggest refrigerating your cold coffee without ice to preserve strength and flavor, and using an airtight container to help lock in freshness over time (read these food safety and refrigeration guidelines for more info).

    Koji Fukada Directs K-Pop Drama

Twelve Features Deep Into a Filmography Now Stretching Back Almost 25 Years, The Work of Director (and Usame Writer) Koji Fukada Can Broadly be defined by an interest in the illusion of stability or momentum being overturened by one single decision changing for the core. Characters, Often a Family Unit. In his un Certain Regard Prize-Winning “Harmonium” (2016), The Welcoming of A Forms Acquainance into A Couple’s Home off a devastation chain reaction. In “A Girl Missing” (2019), a home for the elderly becomes a pariah via a media circus after nephew kidnaps the granddaughter of primary patient. And in “Love Life” (2022), A tragic acident Early in the runtime crumbles the superficiously peaceful existence that a couple though they had built for themselves.

In Fukada’s New Film, “Love on Trial,” A Choice is the Catalyst for Disruption, but in contrast to the director’s previous drama, where the game-Changing Developments are usualy devastatingly abrupt, the rappercusions in trial ” over the protagonist’s life like an axhead. A movie of two distinct halves, roughly the first hour of “love on trial” is spent exploring the reasons that someone might have to be away and been working, Despite Knowing all what Kind of Problems will ensemble. Based on the Movie’s English Title Alone, you’ll already have a sense of how smoothly thans the choice is made.

Traditional Family Units Are Absent For This Particular Fukada Drama (Which is Co-Written with Shintaro Mitani), THOUGH The Continued Oncescreen of References Actually Proves Distracing by A Certain Point in the Runtime. The focus is instead on a found family of sorts: a pop group in Japan’s Idol Industry.

Our Lead, Mai (Kyoko Saito), Is Part of the Five-Mamber Group Happy Fan. Or happy fanfare. At the English-Subtitled version Screened for this reviiew, the switching between the two names Throughout the film makes it unclear as to whereer the form is an abbreviation of the latter, or the latter an in-jokey, affectionate extension of the form. A moment late in the runtime seems to finally confirm that happy fanfare is their official title in marketing, butn confusing things sturger is that at one point, a lorry advertising the commercial breakthrough drives by with the words. This May SEEM like a pedantic tangent about the subtitling, but it does controlbette to a general sketchiness present in fukada’s realization of this world. SOMESTEMES THE LACK OF DETAILS IN PORTRAYING The fictional pop grUp comes acroSs as though budritery constraints are respectible; Other Times, It Feels Like Storytelling Steps were fudged in favor of shortcuts.

Despite the Serious Nature of the Incident In Question, Management Insists on Maintaining Their Promotional Commitments. In one of the film’s more cutting moments Concerning Happy Fanfare Standing, one of the Girls Remarks that this toir lives being all overs is the first and they are ever been on tv.

As previously mentioned, “Love on Trial” is a film of two distinct halves, but it is best to withhold too description of the seconds, including the exact nature of mai and kei’s in courts on from. In execution, this section of the film is uniformly stronger than the prolonged setup. That’s true of the Writing, with more nuanced details Emerging with the Supporting Characters; In Particular, Nanako and Risa, Whose Respective Investments in Mai’s Potential Success in Fighting Their Management Leads to Some Touching Conversations.

ITHE’S ALSO TRUE OF THE FILM’S General Aesthetic, Which Better Suits the Isolating Courtrooms and Backrooms of the Second Half. Fukada’s trends towards muted Color palettes and fairly unflashy cinematography – hidetoshi shinomiya (“Drive my car”) is his dp here – Ha served Him well for the milieux of Earlier Like “Harmonium.” But in “Love on Trial,” while there is an intention to deconstruct the projected glamor of idol pop, the far-so DRAB Colors and specific framing for shots insted conttribute to that aphoronomic sketchies in the world-Building surrounding this fiction. If not one moment of this pop life is ever made to seem glittering and energy to the tings before a turn for the worse, the harder to buy not only why mai wants to stick with it, but why she was actually drain to the caareer in the first first place.

That’s no knack on the singing or dancing of the girls, and as a former idol herself, kyoko as mai brings in a few performance details are palpably dragged a place of personal resonance. But it is Curious that kei’s work is made to feel to feed enchanting than a second spent in the popstar world. The film lone brief flirtation with fantasy over Naturalism comes in an Early showcase of one of His Routines, funnies Enough, seems like it fit in a music video.

I use it both at home and during outdoor events like barbecues and picnics. The quick preheating and easy clean-up make it ideal for spontaneous pizza nights,” says Craig Agranoff, founder and editor in chief of WorstPizza.com, a pizza review and directory site that covers restaurants nationwide. “It’s a great option for people who don’t have the space for a larger oven like the Dome,” adds Mangieri (more on the Dome to come). “It’s also portable, which makes it incredibly versatile.”

We tested the Roccbox and can attest to its convenience (it came fully assembled, was quick to start and fired up in about 15 minutes) and versatility (for a smaller oven, it still has enough room to cook a 12-inch pizza, as well as other food items, though we’d advise using a pan for messier sauces and meats). The retractable legs are convenient and safe for propping the oven on a table or taking it on the go.

The oven has a special coating which keeps it from scorching (we were able to touch it lightly without burning our fingers, though as with any hot device you’ll want to be careful) and it’s sold in four finishes — from bright Olive to bold Black, including a special-edition Ranger green shade. Each Roccbox comes with a detachable gas burner and a professional pizza peel (worth $85), adding to its overall value.

    Pros
    • No setup required
    • Protective coating
    • Multi-fuel/cooks other foods
    • Peel included
    Cons
    • Compact cooking surface (pizza close to flame)
    • While portable, not recommended for long-distance lugging

    Ooni

    Size: 25 x 23.2 x 14.7 in. (16-in. cooking surface) | Weight: 39.2 lbs. | Power source: Gas | Warranty: 1 year; 5 years with registration

Ooni is another name that tends to permeate the pizza oven space, and popped up pretty consistently when consulting experts about their fave brands. “The Ooni Koda 16 is a personal favorite due to its quick setup and convenient, gas-fired operation,” says Agranoff. “The large cooking surface allows for perfectly crispy crusts and the advanced heat control ensures consistent results. I often use it at home for weekend pizza parties with friends — and its portability makes it a great option for outdoor gatherings and camping trips.”

“Ooni pizza ovens have been out for a couple of years and keep getting better. Pizza is the common denominator in large gatherings and now people can achieve that at home with restaurant-quality pizzas,” adds Michael Ayoub, executive chef and owner of Fornino, which serves Neapolitan-style pizza at its three locations in Brooklyn, New York.

The oven comes fully assembled (just unfold the legs to place it on a table or the ground and attach a propane tank) and is lightweight and narrow enough for transporting with ease. I own the Ooni Koda 12 (cooks 12-inch pies), which is great for anyone who wants the convenience of a gas oven with even more portability (at 20.9 lbs., it’s the lightest on our list and takes up hardly any room in a car; it’s even small enough to carry distances on foot if need be). Especially great for beginners!

    Pros
    • No setup required
    • Portable
    • Incredibly lightweight
    Cons
    • Lacks thermometer
    • Shell remains hot

    Solo Stove

Size: 20.5-in. round (ideal for 12-14-in. pies) | Weight: 30 lbs. | Power source: Gas | Warranty: Lifetime

Solo Stove has garnered a cult-like following (recommended by outdoor enthusiasts, professional smokers and Yahoo testers) for making fire pits more accessible and attractive to the masses (much thanks to their smokeless engineering and streamlined physiques). So when we learned the brand was also manufacturing outdoor pizza ovens — cut from the same durable stainless steel, designed by the same team — we were rightfully intrigued.

We previously tested the Solo Stove Pi Dual Fuel Pizza Oven (shown below), which was compatible with both gas and wood and heated up in a flash (about 20 minutes, with pizza ready in 1-2). It has since been replaced with the Solo Stove Pi Prime, which is similar in design and functionality with the exception of being gas-only (according to the brand, features a “demi-dome heating technology” for more expedited cooking (under 90 minutes).

Of note: Part of what makes the Pi Dual so effective is that it retained the heat it pumped out, which resulted in the stainless steel shell (also featured on the Pi Prime) getting pretty hot. Because of this — and the fact that the pizza oven doesn’t have legs — we paired it with the brand’s corresponding Pi Stand. While a bigger commitment upfront (setup took us about 25 minutes for the oven and an additional 45 for the stand), the stand adds another layer of safety, as well as visibility and convenience, with 360-degree wheels and two side panels for resting peels. (The comprehensive setup also happens to look snazzy on a deck or in the company of other Solo Stove products.)

    Pros
    • Good heat distribution and retention, based on previous edition
    • Generous mouth for turning pizza
    • Wheeled stand offers mobility
    Cons
    • Stainless steel shells get hot
    • Oven doesn’t mount to stand (but stays put)
    • Stand requires sufficient setup

    Bertello

Size: 12.5 x 13.5 in. (makes a 12-in. pie) | Weight: 32 lbs. | Power source: Charcoal and wood/pellets (gas burner attachment sold separately) | Warranty: Lifetime

A hard-working outdoor pizza oven that promises the wood-fired results of its pricey counterparts at a fraction of the cost? There was only one way to find out if it was worth it, and Yahoo commerce writer Britt Ross — who also happens to be a former professional baker — was up to the testing task.

“As someone who didn’t have prior experience using a pizza oven, I was impressed by how quickly I was able to get the Bertello Pizza Oven up and running,” explains Ross. “Aside from taking a while (about 10-15 minutes) for the wood to ignite (the directions say you can use a fire starter if that happens), the oven heated up quickly (in another 10 minutes or so) and did its job beautifully. The crust was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The cheese was melty and the sauce was heated through.”

Ross adds that the included infrared thermometer is helpful and accurate, so you know exactly when to pop your pizza in (though because the dome is on the smaller size, you’ll have to remove the pizza to turn it on the peel, then slide it back in). “In addition to the infrared thermometer and pizza peel, the oven came with a coal/wood chip box, a propane hookup, a travel bag and tongs — pretty cool!” (Check out the Bertello Grande 16 for a bit more wiggle room.)

    Pros
    • Affordable
    • Multi-fuel
    • Accessories included
    Cons
    • Narrow dome (need to remove pizza for turning)
    • Requires some setup

Want to take the party indoors? Look no further than this portable pizza oven from Cuisinart, among Amazon’s Choice (and tester recommendations) for 12-in., Neapolitan-style pizzas in a matter of minutes (five or so) without having to leave the house.

“You can easily adjust oven temperature and the built-in timer was super helpful, and loud — I could hear it in the next room!” recounts our Managing Editor Scott Simone. “The window lets you see how things are progressing, there’s enough room for turning and my pizza baked evenly, with crispy crust.”

The Cuisinart Indoor Pizza Oven includes a removable pizza stone for easy cleaning, an enameled deep dish pan and a foldable peel.

    Breville

Size: 18.1 x 18.5 x 10.6 in. (makes a 12-in. pie) | Weight: 37.47 lbs. | Power source: Electric | Warranty: 2 years on limited products; additional plans available for purchase

For those in the market to spend, the Breville Pizzaiolo is about as sleek as indoor pizza ovens come, beloved by pie aficionados for a special system that can be customized to replicate brick oven pizza and other styles in as little as two minutes flat. “The oven uses a combination of radiant conduction and convection heat to produce temperatures around 750°F, right on your countertop!,” exclaims John Gristina, a member of the World Pizza Champions and owner and operator at the Pizza Fenice restaurant in Pelham, N.Y. “The versatile controls allow you to choose a baking style and the oven will direct the power to different heating elements depending on the type of pizza you want — wood-fired, New York or pan-style.”

Use the “Frozen Pizza” setting when you’re not in the mood to get your hands dirty. Added Gristina: “As with any appliance, it does take time to learn and get used to, but with a little practice and the help of Breville’s downloadable apps, you’ll be serving up restaurant-quality pizzas in no time.”

Gristina notes that the compact size of the Pizzaiolo limits it to 12-inch pizzas, so it’s ideal for small spaces and kitchens. You can also choose between two finishes (Black Truffle and Brushed Stainless Steel), and each oven comes with a corresponding pizza pan and peel.

    Pros
    • Controlled, even heat distribution
    • Customizable pizza settings
    • Compatible with an app

    Cuisinart

Size: 13-inch pizza stone, 233 square-inch griddle, 260 square-inch grill | Weight: 45 lbs. | Power source: Gas | Warranty: Up to 3 years on certain parts (see manual for details)

Cuisinart’s 3-in-1 Pizza Oven Plus caught our attention for its versatility (it’s a pizza oven, griddle and grill), compact design (sturdy legs mean you can sit it right on your outdoor table) and near-perfect rating (backed by positive customer reviews). Yahoo Executive Commerce Editor Nicole Sforza recently tapped the multi-tasking model for a gathering with her family and confirms it’s a durable pizza oven that serves up yummy pizzas (not to mention a good time).

“I really love this thing! More than I expected to, and it provided a great opportunity to cook with my kids and their cousin,” she says, explaining “The pizza oven needs to heat up for a half hour, but you may want to give it a bit more time. The third pizza was when the magic happened — the grill must have fully heated up and the crust had that slightly singed, yummy right-out-of-a-wood-burning-oven crispiness that had the whole family raving. Cleanup was easy — only the pizza stone itself had residue on it — and I liked how it was lightweight enough for me to move around the deck on my own.”

Sforza says the oven took some putting together (about 45 minutes, as there were quite a few parts to screw in place) but yielded delicious pies and was fairly straightforward to use. At under $300 for three functions, complete with several attachments, it’s reasonable too.

    Pros
    • Affordable
    • Multi-functioning
    • Easy to use
    • Accessories included
    Cons
    • Compact dome (heed caution when turning pies)
    • Requires some setup

    Ninja

    Size: 21.5 x 18 x 15.1 in. (12 x 12.75 in. cooking surface) | Weight: 32.4 lbs. | Power source: Electric | Warranty: 1 year

I rely on several Ninja products — including the brand’s Professional Kitchen System and Non-stick Ceramic Cookware — for day to day prepping and cooking, so I’ve been looking forward to getting my hands on the multitasking Ninja Woodfire for a while now. The miracle oven promises the convenience of an electric outdoor oven, with the customization of eight cooking functions — plus additional settings for added ease (just throw in some wood chips and you have yourself a no-fuss smoker).

Once I got through assembly (one tool for about 12 screws; about 30 minutes total), I turned on the oven to initiate the preheat (it took about 20 minutes to get to the recommended temp), chose the Neapolitan-style pizza setting (there are five settings total) and popped in my fresh, 12-inch masterpiece.

Because the temperature caps at 700°F, it took a little longer for my first pie, and subsequent pies, to cook (depending on the preference, I’d count on 3-5 minutes) than some of the gas- or wood-fueled models we tested, but I didn’t have to worry about turning the pizza and it came out chewy, bubbly and perfect (the most even, fluffiest crust of all). I’ve since used it to smoke chicken, a roast and other meats (you just add a cup of wood pellets).

    Pros
    • Controlled, even heat distribution
    • Incredibly easy to use
    • Multi-functioning / multi-fuel
    • Accessories included
    Cons
    • Pre-settings variable (use as a rough guide)
    • Requires some setup

    Blackstone

    Size: 52 x 32.75 x 26.75 inches (16-inch cooking surface) | Weight: 140 lbs. | Power source: Gas | Warranty: Various available for purchase

Blackstone — especially its flat-top grill — is an outdoor staple, beloved by shoppers and professional grill masters for its high-heat outputs and sleek surfaces. So we weren’t too surprised to hear chefs recommending their pizza ovens as top of the line; they especially love the rotating pizza deck that eliminates the need for manual turning and ensures an even bake.

“It makes launching pizza challenging at first but it’s such a relief to not have to turn pies once they’re in,” notes Gristina. “Because of the compact oven space (only one pie at a time) it is efficient, as a single standard tank of propane would be more than enough to run the oven for over 6 hours.”

Gristina recommends sticking to pizza sizes 15 inches and under, as the stone measures exactly 16 inches and pies can scorch if they bubble over. “The newer Blackstone Pizza Oven model is designed to be used both with a cart or standalone,” he adds. “It’s great for people with very limited space (this is no bigger than a standard barbecue) and, because of the speed and ease of portability, can be used for large parties at home and away (albeit with someone experienced at the helm).” According to the brand website, you can use the oven to cook up other dishes, such as nachos, fish and steak.

    Pros
    • Portable oven top
    • Rotating stone (no turning required)
    • Propane concealed
    • Includes side hook and peel
    Cons
    • A bit pricey, but still a good deal
    • Need to pitch and remove pizzas quickly
    • Requires some setup

    Gozney

Size: 26 x 24.8 x 28.8 in. (more than enough room for a 16-inch pie) | Weight: 128 lbs. | Power source: Wood and gas | Warranty: 5 years with registration

Last but certainly not least, we have the Gozney Dome, beloved by our experts and other pizza enthusiasts for its top-notch engineering, professional results and attention-getting shape. “The Gozney Dome has become my favorite pizza oven. It fires up hot enough — up to 950°F — to cook our style of pizza and the dome is generous in size,” says Mangieri. “You can adjust the temp, and leverage the extra interior space to make a range of other dishes, such as fish or summer veggies in a cast iron skillet or pot. The multi-fuel version of the Dome can be used with wood or propane for even more versatility and convenience. And cleanup is really simple — you just brush the ashes into a hole inside of the oven which leads to a small drawer that you can pull out and empty.”

Ayoub is among other chefs known to fire up the Dome: “I get the same results with this as I do in my large 5,000-pound wood-burning oven. I use it to cook not only pizza, but vegetables, fish, chicken and more. Woodfire cooking with such high heat is very special for creating quality meals.”

We gave the Gozney Dome a whirl and, after proper heat-up (about 15 minutes), were able to yield restaurant-style pizzas in the flash of a pan. We’re including it in our standing category because, given its weight, we recommend pairing it with the corresponding stand. This thing is a real spectacle, sure to dazzle your guests (don’t be surprised if you notice an increase in people wanting to stop by).

    Pros
    • Peak durability
    • Professional quality
    • Generous dome size
    • Multi-fuel/cooks other foods
    Cons
    • Pricey
    • Heavy (stand recommended)
    • Requires sufficient setup

Standing ovation: We tested popular electric, gas, wood, charcoal and multi-fuel pizza ovens against rigorous criteria to see how well they rated. (Kristin Granero/Yahoo)

What to look for when choosing a pizza oven

Selecting a pizza oven is no easy feat. Here are a few considerations to keep in mind:

    • Size: The bigger the oven, the more space it takes, but you’ll generally be able to make larger pies. Smaller ovens are ideal for smaller areas and traveling, though they’re typically reserved for 12-inch pizzas. We also had to be more cautious when peeling pizzas, as more compact ovens meant they were closer to the fire.

    • Weight: Heavy-duty ovens tend to be made of more durable materials, the downside being they can be harder to maneuver outside. We suggest springing for a wheeled stand, like shown above with Solo Stove and Gozney, for more mobility, and opting for a lighter option, such as the Ooni Koda, when you want to take your pizza oven for a ride.

    • Fuel type: Electric ovens tend to be most controlled, delivering even, often predictable pizza results (no peeling required). Electrical appliances should be kept from water, but don’t usually involve a live fire. Gas ovens are fairly straightforward, but require you to have and attach a propane tank. You’ll have to peel your pizza to ensure each part is getting enough — but not too much — time in front of the fire. Wood-fueled ovens can take a bit more tinkering to get started and keep going but are more convenient in instances like camping when there isn’t a gas or electric source nearby. They also lend a smoky flavor to a pie.

    • Warranty: Many retailers, as noted above, offer warranties on certain parts or entire ovens so you can feel more confident that you’ll be able to enjoy your pizza oven for a long time.

How we evaluated these pizza ovens

The chefs and other pizza pros quoted in this roundup have spent years testing, tasting and making pizzas — including for renowned pizza shops and restaurants.

Our internal testing group was made up of Yahoo Life editors and writers with a background in researching and testing appliances, tech and outdoor gear, including some with professional culinary training and baking experience. Testers used the same dough and sauce from Trader Joe’s, plus all-purpose flour, following the same guidelines to ensure consistency. Here is what we considered:

Ease of setup/use: Is the pizza oven practical to build, manage and maintain, factoring a new-equipment adjustment period? (Or, as many pizza oven testers on the internet put it when referring to the familiarity stage: “You may burn before you learn.”)

Accuracy/temp retention: Does the oven get as hot as manuals indicate, for the desired results, in the promised time? Does it maintain enough heat for multiple pies?

Durability/accuracy: How likely is it that the pizza oven will last, given its materials and engineering? Does it feature a coating to keep it from getting too hot?

Overall value: Does the price seem fair for what you’re getting, taking into account special features and included accessories?

    Pizza oven FAQs

    Are pizza ovens safe?

Regardless of the fuel type (standard 20-lb. propane tanks worked for our gas models and you can typically purchase wood from a hardware store), you’ll be handling a hot appliance. More compact ovens mean pizzas will be situated closer to the flame, so you’ll want to be extra diligent when inserting and turning pies. In addition to fuel, you’ll likely need dedicated pitching and turning peels (we recommend steel or aluminum over wood to reduce the risk of burning).

How hot do pizza ovens get?

Most of these pizza ovens reach quite high temps — ranging from 700℉ to 950℉ — and promise to yield delicious pies in about one to three minutes.

Am I ready for a pizza oven?

We found the quality and timing of the pizzas came down to user skill (or rather, practice) and ingredients: the more attentive and peel-happy the chef, the more even the bake; the thinner the crust and lighter the toppings, the faster the take!
