I was optimistic about this affordable find, which has nearly 37,000 five-star reviews. The color selection is solid — I was immediately drawn to the bold Hot Red hue — and the formula includes moisturizing ingredients like vitamin E and macadamia nut oil.
For my test, I planned to apply each lipstick first thing in the morning and monitor its staying power throughout the day. When I swiped this one on as I sat down for work, I was surprised the color wasn’t bolder right away. It looks super red in the tube, but I needed to swipe on quite a bit to get the intensity I was looking for. Eventually, the color layered up nicely, and I was really pleased with the look of the lipstick. And it felt nice too — smooth, soft and hydrating, not sticky, tacky or drying.
While my intention was to wear the lipstick all day, I had to take it off after a few minutes because the smell was off-putting. I’m very sensitive to scents, and this formula just didn’t agree with my nostrils.
Removing it was easy — both a good and a bad thing. I used a tissue, and without much rubbing, it came right off. Great for the end of the night, but maybe not so great if you want something that doesn’t smudge throughout the day.
My other tiny qualm? The packaging reflects the low price. The plastic isn’t so cheap that it feels like it will crack if you drop it, but there’s nothing elegant or elevated about it.
