Super Smash Bros. has had a killer run in the gaming world thanks to its dedication to the players and some excellent DLC additions for its latest game. It’s safe to say the bulk of its success lies in the franchise’s direction by its creator, Masahiro Sakurai. Now, fans can embrace his story with the release of his new biographical manga.
Confirmed by Famitsuthe manga’s title’s rough Discover People and Work Through Manga: Sakurai Masahiro – Making the World More Fun with Games, said Kirby and Smash Bros. creator will get to tell his life story in a uniquely relevant fashion. The manga is set to be released on November 18, 2025, through East Press.
Kirby and Smash Bros. Creator to Get Special Biographical Manga
Masahiro Sakurai’s individual anecdotes as a creator are practically already legendary among those who know, especially for anyone King of Fighters fan. The manga will surely be a sought-after collector’s item, a 160-page volume with six main chapters and a conclusion detailing his early days, his brightest creations, and a new future ahead.
The manga will depict Sakurai in his youth as he discovered his passion for games such as at the arcade. It follows the creation of his most iconic character, Nintendo’s adorable pink glutton Kirby, and the beginnings of his career between HAL Laboratories and his foundation of Sora Ltd. Sakurai’s manga looks to enhance the natural charm of his story.
Sakurai has long entertained the idea of his eventual retirement even a decade ago. With the success of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the upcoming Kirby Air Riders, for which he serves as director, it seems he’s not out of steam yet. But the big question on many minds is, does that open the door to more Smash Bros.?
Super Smash Bros. Future Speculation Is Alive and Well
While Sakurai’s work on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate may be over, with him even discussing the job’s stress making it tempting to retire in a Famitsu interview via Kotaku, it’s difficult to say whether he’ll quit. With his story being told via manga, he’s surrounded by creators like Eiichiro Oda, who, despite enormous stress, continue doing what they love.
For now, it’s idle speculation until any announcement is made for the next one Super Smash Bros. game to be officially in development. There are certainly claims floating around about Sakurai’s future after having fulfilled his request to complete Kirby Air Riders, but it’s anyone’s guess for now. Regardless, with Sakurai’s biographical manga out November 18, there’s still plenty to learn.
