The head of the transitional phase in Syria, Ahmed Al -Shara, revealed that there are negotiations between Syria and Israel to reach a “security agreement”, according to which Israel withdraws from the areas it occupied after the fall of the Bashar al -Assad regime in southern Syria.
Al -Shara said, during an interview with the Syrian News Channel, that Israel considered the fall of the Bashar al -Assad regime as an indication of the end of the 74th agreement – in reference to the engagement agreement that followed the 1973 war between the two countries – despite the fact that Syria “expressed its commitment to the agreement after the fall of the regime.”
The Sharia indicated that Israel “had a divisional plan for Syria in the past, and was seeking to make it a field in its struggle with Iran,” adding that it “was surprised by the fall of the Bashar al -Assad regime.”
Al -Sharaa’s statements come a few weeks after a meeting of the Syrian Foreign Minister, Asaad Al -Shaibani, with the Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, in Paris, to discuss the escalation of escalation and conditions in the Druze majority of As -Suwayda, after bloody violence in the province, according to the Syrian official media.
It also comes after the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approval that Israel is involved in “discussions” to establish a demilitarized zone in southern Syria.
Since an alliance of opposition factions, led by the Headquarters for the Liberation of Al -Sham, overthrew the Bashar al -Assad regime, in December 2024, the Israeli forces advanced to the buffer zone between Syria and the occupied part of the Golan Heights, an area established by the Confusion Agreement in 1974.
Israel also launched many air strikes on Syrian military sites, saying that it aims to prevent the new authorities from being acquired by the former Syrian army arsenal and the spread of “terrorist” activities in this strategic area.
Israel and Syria have not established diplomatic ties, as the two countries are still in war since 1948.

During the interview, the Sharia touched on the relationship of Damascus in Russia after the fall of the previous regime, noting that it is in the interest of Syria to maintain “calm relations” with Russia, although Moscow was one of the most important allies of the Bashar al -Assad regime.
Al -Shara revealed that the forces that brought down the previous regime set up communication channels with Russia during its attack and advanced towards Damascus, noting that Moscow decided to stop the interference in the battle course after the opposition forces arrived in Homs, north of the Syrian capital.
Al -Shara said: “When we arrived Hama, negotiations took place between us and Russia, and when we reached Homs, the Russians came out at the time of the battle as part of an agreement that took place between us and them.”
Al -Sharaa added that the opposition forces “could target the Russian Hmeimim Base” northwestern Syria during the battle to overthrow the regime, but it preferred not to resort to that option so that Russia would not lead to more interference in the battle, indicating that there was no “negative intervention by the Russians in the Syrian issue after the fall of the regime.”
Sharia spoke about the Syrian -Iranian relations, and said that the fall of the regime of Bashar al -Assad “brought the Iranian arms” out of the region, and entered the two countries in a state of frigidity in relations, but at the same time he emphasized that “breaking with Iran” will not be permanent.
Al -Shara indicated that there are Iranian parties that it believes that it “lost a full axis of losing Syria,” accusing these parties of trying to “destabilize matters inside Syria.”
During the Syrian civil war, which lasted for 13 years and ended with the fall of the Bashar al -Assad regime, both Russia and Iran were among the most important allies and supporters of the previous regime, and their direct intervention contributed to the heart of the field battle in favor of the regime on several occasions.
Russia is seeking to ensure the future of its naval bases in Tartous and the air in Hmeimim – the only two military sites outside the scope of the former Soviet Union – under the new authorities.
“Syria does not accept division”
Commenting on the events of As -Suwayda in southern Syria, Al -Shara said that the events were associated with disputes that evolved into clashes between the Bedouins and the people of the Druze community in As -Suwayda, adding that “mistakes” were committed from all parties, and “even from the state itself.”
Al -Sharaa pointed out that some parties “tried to exploit the endosperm events to pass some projects, whether within the province or by Israel,” as he put it, stressing that Syria “does not accept division, and As -Suwayda is an essential part of the Syrian society”, and stressed the necessity of “holding everyone who offended and erred.”
Violent clashes erupted last July between the Bedouins and government forces on the one hand, and armed Druze factions on the other hand, in the southern province of Sweida, where the Druze is concentrated.
Those clashes led to the killing of hundreds and the displacement of thousands, according to the United Nations, while Israel launched several raids targeting government forces and military headquarters in Daraa, As -Suwayda and Damascus, in the context of what Israel said was “the protection of the Druze minority” in Syria.
Regarding the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which is led by the Kurds and controlling areas in northeastern Syria, Sharia said that the Qasd forces “top the issue of division in that region.”
Al -Shara added that the negotiations with Qasd were going well, and pointed out that there is a “slowdown in implementing the agreement” that the two sides reached, reiterating that Syria “will not give up an atom of dust from its lands.”
Last March, the Syrian authorities announced the signing of an agreement to integrate the Syrian Democratic Forces into state institutions, to emphasize the unity of Syrian territory and the rejection of division, according to the Syrian News Agency “SANA” at the time.
