The Indian authorities demolished the historic “Shahi” mosque in the city of God Abad, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, which was built 5 centuries ago on the pretext of expanding the public road, which angered Muslims.
The city’s residents documented the moments of demolitions of the bulldozers to a large part of the historic mosque, in the presence of security forces and officials.

The demolition came despite the attempts of the population to resort to the Supreme Court to save the mosque, but their attempts were unsuccessful, as the authorities claim that building the mosque is “illegal.”
What is surprising is that the construction dates back to the sixteenth century, and therefore where the population will attend.
This occurs at a time when India has been witnessing, more than two years ago, broad persecution campaigns and violence against Muslims, behind extremist Hindu militias that follow the racist “Hinduova” doctrine, which is embraced by the ruling “Patriad Jatata” party.
The policy of demolishing historical mosques is not new in India, as the historic “Babri” mosque was subjected to demolition in 1992 by Hindus extremists, and it was established on the ruins of a Hindu temple, which then sparked a wave of violence that left about two thousand dead from both sides.

The human rights activist Vincent Cowell also believes that the demolition of the mosque will lead to more sectarian tensions throughout India, stressing the need to find a solution to the highest power pyramid in India.
