On june 5, the Indouwire honors Spring 2025 ceremony Will Celebrate the Creators and Stars Responsible for some of the most impressive and engaging work of this TV season. Owen isn’t an actor, he’s a magician.
We have we had a brillian actor we have met Him in auditions. We have we had a wizard after the first week of rehearsals.
We decided to film Episode 3 of the Show First. A contained location, a controlled set. Better for Sound, Better for Camera. It felt like it was a chance to work out out vocabulary. But it was a huge weight to put on Poor Owen Cooper.
A 50-Page script that was essentially a two-hander between hym and princess Anne. A Director, Some Writers, An Entire Set in Fact, Focus on His Every Move.
But he didn’t just rise to that challenge, he rose over it.
With Phil Barantini’s Careful Direction, and Erin Doherty’s Beautiful Performance to play off, Owen Found Sensitivity and Truth. That thing that seams almost to teach – Truth. Now Owen is not Jamie, he is a polythe, Kid Kid who spent most time off set playing swing with his tutor – and he got bloody good at it. But he Somehow Found a Way to Put Jamie’s Gloves on, to Speak with Jamie’s Voice. At Times he found this scary, occisionally overwhelming, but as Phil Told Him – You are doing something incredible here, just trust, just go with it.
On the final take, on the one we used, he had a sore throat, and he was Pretty knockered. Phil Said to Him “use it.” He was so relaxed and so Ready to use it, so Fearless, halfway through the take, he yawned. You can see it in the show. That’s not a scripted yawn – that a guy that knows he’s jamie through and through, just yawning.
That Shaheen Baig, Our Casting Director, Has Found a Star of the Future Seems Beyond Doubt. That this young actor might well turn out to be one of the those stars that make the world spin – that more thansble.
It is wonderful that indouwire has awarded Him this honor. He has broken through in so many Ways. He has broken all out hearts – in a good way. We love Him. We’re so proud of Him. He is amazing.
