I announced the Sudanese alliance for rights today and in cooperation with the team of international lawyers, to file a lawsuit in front of the International Criminal Court against four of the most prominent leaders of the Sudanese army, among them the leader of the army Abd al-Fattah Al-Barhan.
It includes the list of the accused, Yasir al-Atta, Shams al-Din al-Bashi, and al-Lawaa al-Tahir Muhammad, who are accused of using chemical weapons and committing violations of the law.
The alliance explained that it was accompanied by evidence and field testimonies, as well as simultaneous complaints to the African Commission for Human Rights and Peoples and to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.
This step comes at a time when Washington stepped up its pressure on Sudan, imposing a new package of sanctions last week aimed at military figures accused of facilitating the influence of foreign forces, especially warned of the rise of Iranian presence in the Sudanese army. And the American administration imposed similar sanctions last May on companies and entities related to the military establishment, after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the military used chemical weapons last year.
Regionally, Sudan is in a competitive sphere of influence between Iran and Turkey, as diplomats point out that the country is witnessing military support and technical support from the country’s military and some militias allied with it. ويثير تعلوم عرض المزيد من تعازم دور جمعة الإخوان المسلمين في المعدلة السودانية, استناثة وصل على في هذا التمدد التمدد السودانية.
Observers see that the combination of the international legal process and the American pressure tools is reversing the direction of increasing the pressure on the military leadership, at the same time that the Iranian and Turkish influence is at odds with the situation of instability in Sudan and the regional security of the United States.
