One Piece’s Elbaph Arc recently set its sights on an April 2026 release window, and despite the long wait until then, fans could not be more excited for the upcoming arc. Not only is the Land of the Giants a long-awaited destination, but as seen in the manga, the arc also introduces a host of very exciting characters.
Among these are not only the Giants and new Straw Hat candidates like Loki, but also Shanks’ recently introduced evil twin brother, Shamrock. That said, while Shamrock’s official anime debut is still far in the distance, One Piece just gave him a special early introduction, revealing he will be voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda.
One Piece Casts Kenjiro Tsuda as Figarland Shamrock
One Piece’s official YouTube channel recently shared a promotional video for Volume 113 of the manga, featuring none other than Kenjiro Tsuda as Figarland Shamrock, Shanks’ long estranged brother. The description of the video clearly credits Tsuda as Shamrock’s voice, which strongly indicates that he will be voicing Shamrock in the anime this April as well.
Surprisingly enough, this will not be Tsuda’s first time voicing a character from One Piecenor has he previously lent his voice to another evil brotherly figure in the series, namely, Vinsmoke Yonji, Sanji’s younger brother. That said, this is hardly the first time a single voice actor has voiced multiple characters One Piece.
Most notably, Kazuki Yao, who is best known for voicing Franky, previously voiced both Django and Bon Clay in the series. As such, there is very much a precedent, and frankly, fans are sure to be thrilled at Shamrock’s casting, as it simply could not have been more perfect.
Kenjiro Tsuda easily has one of the most recognizable voices in Japanese media, having voiced many beloved and iconic characters like Nanami Kento from Jujutsu KaisenKai Chisaki from My Hero Academiaand Kaiba from Yu-Gi-Oh. His other notable roles include Kishibe from Chainsaw ManJigen from BorutoTatsu from The Way of the Househusbandand Dainsleif from Genshin Impact.
Shamrock’s Casting Could Create a Massive Plot Hole
All that said, as exciting as it is to see Kenjiro Tsuda return to One PieceShamrock’s new casting could unintentionally create a huge plot hole, or at least a major retcon on the anime’s part. Until now, the common assumption was that Shanks and Shamrock would share the same voice.
This is because in One Piece chapter #908, a figure resembling Shanks was seen meeting with the Five Elders to talk about a certain pirate. In retrospect, it is clear that this figure meeting the Five Elders wasn’t Shanks, but likely Shamrock, as Shanks’ iconic scar and missing arm were cleverly hidden from sight.
However, during this scene in the anime in Episode #887, this cloaked figure was portrayed by the same voice actor as Shanks. If this figure is indeed meant to be Shamrock, then Tsuda’s casting could create a full hole, at least in One Piece’s anime.
Still, on the flip side, perhaps Shamrock was a red herring, and this cloaked figure was indeed Shanks all along. After all, if there’s anything One Piece’s latest flashback has confirmed, it’s that there’s a lot more to Shanks and Shamrock than meets the eye.
