Gayle King plans to leave CBS Mornings after her contract expires next year. Her departure in May 2026 will mark the end of 15 years with the broadcasting company.
Variety first broke the news of King’s departure. However, it is unclear if she will transition to a new role or if she will leave CBS altogether. While CBS has not confirmed whether she’ll actually be leaving or not, it did say in a statement that neither party has discussed her future with the company. “There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026. She’s a truly valued part of CBS, and we look forward to engaging with her about the future.“
Reports of the news anchor’s decision to cut ties with CBS Mornings come amid a massive shake-up. Bari Weiss was appointed the new editor-in-chief of CBS after its parent company, Paramount, merged with Skydance Media. Her alleged leave also follows the end of CBS Evening News’ John Dickerson’s 16-year run.
The broadcasting company recently took a giant hit from Paramount’s latest company-wide cuts. Several insiders have even claimed that CBS Mornings and the CBS Evening News will be canceled, meanwhile CBS Saturday Morning will face a huge overhaul. King potentially quitting is just one of the many recent developments of the massive fallout.
King has been an integral part of CBS News since 2011. She began her career with the company as a host for CBS This Morning. She stuck with the show through its rebranding in 2021 when it became CBS Mornings. She currently hosts the program with Nate Burleson and Tony Dokoupil.
