I’m a sucker for a good party dress—load me up with all the sparkles, velvet, lace and metallics, please!—and few brands have a better selection to browse than Anthropologie. Seriously, the sheer range of Anthropologie holiday dresses is wild. There are classic sequin minis in all the expected hues (black, silver, gold), elegant maxis perfect for more formal affairs and plenty of vintage-inspired silhouettes. I feel like I could spend all day scrolling through the brand’s website in an epic digital window-shopping excursion.
But of course, nothing beats trying things on in store to really figure out which dresses are worth adding to my collection and which are better admired from afar. So, with that in mind, I recently paid a visit to my friendly local Anthro in Rockefeller Center and tapped the help of Anthropologie stylist Eunice to narrow down my options to only the best of the best. Here are 11 of my top picks, all under $300, to kick off the holiday season in style.

This midi dress feels peak Anthropologie to me—it’s a little bit boho, a little bit vintage and 100 percent guaranteed to ring in all the compliments. The black velvet straps and adjustable bow in back make the super-lightweight metallic material feel more appropriate for winter celebrations, but it doesn’t scream “holiday.” It’s also incredibly comfortable with ample room in the hips and midsection. I will note, that although the material has no stretch to it, this dress definitely runs a little big. I am typically a medium in Anthro brand dresses, but I tried on a small and it fit just fine. And while the straps are, unfortunately, not adjustable, there are petite sizes available so the neckline won’t feel quite so plunging on anyone under 5’3″.

The photos barely do this stunning green brocade justice, it was even more gorgeous IRL. And while the fabric alone would have been enough to sell me on this cutie, the addition of a small gold metal bow on the front made it simply irresistible. I also love the exaggerated racerback detailing, although it does mean you will need to wear a racerback, cross-back or strapless bra. The fit was also spot on—true to size, flattering and comfortable—and comes in both plus and petite sizes. And while some reviewers didn’t love how light the material is, I thought it a major plus to avoid feeling constricted as you indulge on all the holiday appetizers and Champagne.

Despite my being 5’9″ and decidedly not petite, Eunice recommended I try this sequin mini on in a petite size rather than my usual regular. And while I’d definitely want some tights or maybe some extra-high boots for a bit of extra coverage, I think she was on to something. The shorter length helps balance out the long sleeves and looser silhouette to give this ’80s-inspired sequin mini a much sexier vibe. Whether you opt for a bit more coverage with the regular or to show a bit more leg with a petite length, this mini is shockingly comfortable to move with you throughout the night. It feels like your favorite sweatshirt, just covered in sparkle. In addition to rainbow, there is also an all-black version if that’s more your vibe.

For anyone who bought hard into the Chanel-inspired lady jacket trend, this is the holiday dress for you! The gold tweed has just the right amount of sparkle to feel festive, but not over the top. And while it does come with a feather trim, which cannot reasonably be called subtle, it’s not so “in your face” bold as a fully feathered frock. The buttons down the front are fully functional, giving you some room to play along the neckline and hem and eliminating the need for a zipper. And, yes, the four front pockets are all functional as well, although they won’t hold much more than a lipstick and card case. This was definitely a top contender for me as a comfy-yet-chic option that can work for so many holiday events.

This and the following dress tied for my absolute favorites of the day. This one was actually a late addition from Eunice who rightfully pointed out this Maeve beauty is a gorgeous option not just for holiday fêtes, but for fall and winter weddings and other cocktail events, giving you even more reason to splurge. It has an old Hollywood vibe that’s supremely elegant, and the drop waist silhouette is both super comfortable and very flattering. I also adore the little bow detail on the neckline. The dainty straps are adjustable, and while not actually removable, they could pretty easily be tucked into the bodice to fake a strapless neckline if you wanted. Plus, this dress has pockets! Add to that the fact that it comes in plus and petite sizes, and I feel very confident declaring this frock a very hot commodity, so you may want to add it to your shopping cart ASAP before it sells out.

I almost always gravitate towards sparkle, pattern and bright colors, but slipping into this stretch velvet number made me feel fabulous and surprisingly festive. The material is dreamy soft and has ample stretch to comfortably hug your curves. That said, I’d stick with your usual size when ordering to avoid any odd pulling that might occur if you size down. While the silhouette is form-fitting and there is a leg slit that goes about mid-thigh, the high neck and ruching along the bodice help balance everything out to hit just the right level of sexy that I’d feel comfortable wearing this midi at all kinds of holiday events. It also comes in a soft metal gray, rich teal and the burgundy pictured above, although not every shade is available in petite or plus sizes.

The beloved Anthro Somerset style is a year-round favoritebut for holidays I definitely recommend this mini velvet version. The velvet feels festive and winter-ready, but the colorful pattern helps it stand out from the usual all-black or sequin-adorned frocks. I will note, I typically opt for a medium in the Somerset collection, but greatly preferred the fit of a large with the velvet, so you may want to consider sizing up one from your usual even if you’ve worn this silhouette in the past. That said, this mini has all the same features as the classic cotton version—a flattering V neckline, stretchy smocked waistband, slightly puffed sleeves and two roomy pockets. Now all you need is a pair of black suede boots and some statement earrings, and you’ll be ready to party!

Pinstripes and suiting are two major trends for 2025, which means we’re about to see a whole lot of blazer dresses and striped frocks this holiday season. This halter midi is a fabulous twist on the trend that feels sexy but not too over the top. The back is definitely high enough to cover a strapless bra for added support, and the tulip hem is actually fairly long to balance out the V neckline and open back. And that gorgeous gold flower brooch? It’s fully functional, meaning you can reposition it to sit anywhere on the dress or even on your coat if you like, or skip it altogether if you don’t want it clashing with your silver jewelry. As an added bonus, there are two deep pockets on the sides with room for your phone, card case or a little holiday snack.

Oh, hello, Linda Evangelista! The suiting material, scoop neckline and Versace-inspired sleeves of this mini give me major ’90s supermodel vibes, and I truly cannot wait to see this beauty out in the wild come December. The length felt just right, showing off some leg without making me concerned about the prospect of sitting down. But there are petite sizes available as well, for anyone in the 5’3″-and-under crew. The front features a line of hidden buttons and a snap at the top to give the neckline a cleaner finish, and while the material does have some stretch it’s not a ton. So, if you’re between sizes, I recommend opting for the larger to avoid any weird pulling or gaping between buttons.

This silver-lace midi looked fairly structured on the hanger, but it turns out it was one of the most comfortable pieces I tried on all day. The material is deliciously lightweight and has just enough stretch. It feels like a silk slip dress, which is to say it feels like you’re wearing a nightgown, in all the best ways. The thin straps are adjustable and, while not removable, could be tucked or pinned into the top to fake a strapless silhouette. I really loved the subtle shine of the lace and found myself brainstorming so many ways to style this midi to fit different occasions—under a blazer for the office holiday party, with silver strappy heels for a night at the ballet, with a silver or gray cardigan for my annual cookie exchange. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I want to go back and officially make this beauty a part of my occasionwear wardrobe…

While technically not a dress, this romper is a very fun option for anyone hoping to add a little ’20s vibe to their collection. The lightweight fabric is lovely to touch, and because the whole thing is designed to have an oversized fit, it feels incredibly comfortable when on. With the slouchy silhouette, I assumed I’d want to size down, but I actually think you’re best off sticking with your usual size. The delicate embellishments scream Daisy Buchanan, and I highly recommend leaning into those flapper vibes with your shoes and accessories, too. An extra-long pearl necklace, glittering headband and some Mary Jane heels should do the trick.
