If you’re looking for some Halloween makeup inspo—look no further. You can’t go wrong with a classic spooky look that’s long stood the test of time: a witch. Nor these 10 witch makeup ideas prove, there’s so much room for creativity whether you’re paying homage to a fictional witch from a movie (Wickedanyone?) or a TV show, or you made a character up yourself.

Parade rounded up the best spellbinding witch makeup looks and spoke to the makeup artists behind the concepts to get all their tips on recreating the ideas for yourself. It’s no wonder these MUAs have thousands of followers on TikTok and Instagram, because their artistry is so inspiring—especially this time of year when you choose your Halloween costumes.

These looks are not only stunning, but also totally achievable—maybe even with the makeup you already have at home. Feel free to experiment and play with the end result, though. One of the coolest parts of Halloween is that it’s a night where you get to step outside yourself and take on a new persona—so have fun with it.

10 Best Witch Makeup Ideas for Halloween, According to Makeup Artists

1. Elphaba from ‘Wicked’

Elphaba is sure to be one of the hottest costumes this year thanks to the anticipation surrounding Wicked: For Good. Abbey Strohmeyer (@theabbeystrohmeyer on TikTok and @abbeystrohmeyer on Instagram) used the ColourPop Just My Luck palette ($14).

She recommends starting with the colorful base using something like that Mehron Makeup CreamBlend Stick in Green ($18). Then you can do the rest of “your traditional makeup routine, but using green tones instead of skin tones” with the ColourPop eyeshadow palette.

2. Glinda from ‘Wicked’

If you’d rather be Glinda Frome WickedStrohmeyer has you covered there as well. “For Glinda, I did my usual makeup base and used ColourPop Cloud Spun eyeshadow palette ($14) for the blush (and) eyeshadow,” Strohmeyer tells Parade.

For an added pop, you can add some faux pearl stickers ($8) near your temples.

3. Winifred from ‘Hocus Pocus’

Makeup artist Debra Jenn phone Parade that Winifred Sanderson Frome Hocus Pocus “speaks to my heart as the ultimate witchy villain of my dreams,” so she perfectly recreated the character’s look.

Jenn started by setting and concealing the eyebrows with Pros-Aide Adhesive Cream ($10), Ben Nye Super White Face Powder ($26) and the NYX Color Correcting Concealer Palette ($12). Jenn then chose a lighter foundation shade and a heavier contour than usual using the KVD Beauty Contour Palette ($53).

Finish with heavy blush—Jenn used the J. Cat Beauty Dia & Noche palette ($8)—and a vibrant lip.

4. Classic Green Witch

“I feel like nostalgic Halloween vibes are really trending this year and I wanted to fully embrace it with the most iconic costume I saw throughout my childhood,” Piper Nelson Frome @piperartistry on TikTok and Instagram phone Parade of this classic witch makeup look.

“I used a green cream paint—my favorites are Mehron Makeup’s CreamBlend Stick ($18) in green, Sunset Makeup Foundation ($14) in green and Glisten Cosmetics Foundation ($23) in green—set with a fully translucent powder,” Nelson explains of the makeup base.

She used the RCMA No Color Powder ($15) and then used green eyeshadows on both her eyebrows and lids. “ColourPop makes great affordable and pigmented ones,” she says of the shadows. One option is the ColourPop Just My Luck palette ($14) from the brand or even ColourPop x The Grinch Eyeshadow palette ($25).

To complete the look, she used the NYX Shine Loud lipstick ($13) in “Rebel in Red” and the NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner ($6) in “Alien.”

5. Cracked Witch

Nelson also created this “cracked witch” look after being inspired by the “cracked doll” makeup trend that she saw makeup artists @anemariemua and @noitsfeeviun will.

“I wanted to put my own Halloween twist on it, and it really reminded me of those classic scenes where an evil witch is defeated and breaks into a million pieces before turning to dust,” Nelson says.

She started the look with a black base using Mehron Makeup’s CreamBlend Stick ($17) in black and set it with RCMA No Color Powder ($15). She said mixed the Mehron Makeup Liquid Makeup ($15) in green with Kaolin clay powder (you can try this $10 one from Amazon) and applied a thick layer to her face.

“After letting it dry, the movement from my face cracked the face mask, revealing the black underpainting. I also scratched off some additional areas on the forehead for dimension,” Nelson says, adding, “To give the same effect without having a rigid face mask on all night, you could also just swap out the black cream stick for green and paint the cracks on using a liquid eyeliner.”

For that method, she recommends the NYX Epic Ink liner ($10) in black or a black water activated paint like the Mehron Makeup Paradise Makeup AQ ($16).

6. Orange Witch

Ann Roth Frome @facemefaceit on Instagram and TikTok says she always starts witchy makeup looks with the color theme.

“Once I’ve decided on the palette, I buy a classic black witch hat along with ribbons, a wig, contact lenses, flowers and other accessories in the same color scheme,” she says, adding, “Since (the Orange Witch) style leans more toward the elegant side rather than the warty and old kind of witch, I like to keep the makeup simple.”

You can do your standard makeup base and then go a little more wild with the eyeshadow, blush and lipstick in the corresponding orangey tones. Try an orangey palette like that ColourPop Baby’s Got Peach ($14) if you don’t already have those kinds of colorful options.

Roth completed the look with a black eyeliner pencil to draw some dots in various sizes for “an elegant, mystical flair.” And she recommends “adding a pair of dramatic lashes” to pull the whole thing together. This look has dramatically long lashes, but Roth says you can also “take regular lashes and glue on curled strips of paper for a whimsical effect.”

7. Purple and Green Witch

Makeup artist Billington tennis shoes (@flawlessbytenisha on TikTok and @flawless_by_tenisha on Instagram) created this moody green and purple look that you can also recreate.

Billington started with a light green base using Mehron Makeup Face & Body Makeup ($12) and then added highlights with Ben Nye Professional Creme Colors ($50) in “Clown White” before setting with powder. She applied purple eyeshadow and rounded out the look with a purple lip using the MAC Locked Kiss Ink 24Hr Lipcolor ($22) in “Sardonic.”

8. Purple and Black Witch

If you’d rather go for a purple and black witchy look, Hope Landre (@hoperenee_mua on TikTok and Instagram) has you covered.

“For my easy (and) affordable Halloween makeup looks, I recommend investing in a colorful eyeshadow palette, liquid eyeliner and pencil eyeliner,” Landre says. To create this look, she relied heavily on eyeshadows to create the winged eyeliner and purple shadow gradient. She recommends brands like Makeup Revolution, ColourPop or Morphe for their eyeshadows. For this purple look, a palette like that Makeup Revolution Maxi palette ($18) offers bright, colorful options.

Landre maps out the designs in a nude lip liner first in case of mistakes, and then outlines the designs in a NYX black liquid liner ($10) before blending the lines using eyeshadow. For the lips, Landre used a black pencil to draw in the center—try the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil ($6)—and blended with a purple lipstick.

9. Rio from ‘Agatha All Along’

Agathe Frome @agathebrushes on TikTok (@ordinary_mu on Instagram) was inspired by Aubrey Plaza’s character Rio in Agatha All Along. “She is summoned from the earth, so my idea was to do a look inspired by the earth and using mainly green colors,” Agathe says.

She achieved the look using mostly eyeshadows. “I did a green and yellow eye makeup, using the green as the main color and the yellow to blend it in the skin, keeping the dark colors around the eyes and close to the eyebrows to give a harsher (and) darker look since Rio is the ‘villain’ of the show.”

She rounded out the look with brown and black eyeshadows to create a mud effect on the face, drew branches and leaves with an eyebrow liner, and used the eyeshadows for a dark green lip. Agathe says she used the (now discontinued) 35B Morphe palette for the eyeshadows, but the Makeup Revolution Maxi Reloaded palette is a good substitute. She also used the NYX Lift & Snatch Brow Tint Pen ($13) in the espresso shade.

10. Grand High Witch from ‘The Witches’

For an extra challenge this Halloween, you could try recreating this Grand High Witch look inspired by The Witches. Makeup artist Amber Pitkin (@amberpitkin on TikTok and Instagram) breaks down exactly how to achieve it yourself.

“For an easy at home bald cap, I use cling film to wrap around the head. Then cover it with liquid latex and then powder, so the paint has something to cling to,” Pitkin says, adding, “I created the prosthetic pieces using Crayola Model Magic ($14), Mehron Makeup Liquid Latex ($9) and flour.”

Pitkin recommends making the prosthetics the day before so they can be applied and painted at the same time. To complete the makeup look, Pitkin used Mehron Paradise paints ($16) and the Beauty Bay Bright Matte 42 ($15) eyeshadow palette for shading.
