With viewers getting the chance to know more about Mark and Whitney’s partnership, they’ve also been able to learn more about them as people outside what’s shown on Dancing With The Stars in general. Each couple only gets so long to fuse their personality into their dances, and viewers have had the chance to see far more of the pair on social media.

The Pair Were Hoping To Bring Fans To The Ballroom
After their show-stopping performance on Dancing With The Stars season 34’s Wicked night, Mark and Whitney were thrilled to be the top of the leaderboard and wanted to share some of their excitement with their fans. Making it clear that they were hoping to connect with a few of their biggest fans, they shared the idea of doing a ticket giveaway for the next live show.
Sharing a now-deleted TikTok about the idea, Mark and Whitney asked their fans to engage with their content on social media in order to enter to win the tickets for the live show. Within a short time, however, the Dancing With The Stars pair were instructed to take down the video and retract the contest, offering an apology for the mixup and hoping for a solution moving forward.

Although Mark and Whitney shared in their retraction video that ABC and BBC directly asked them to take the video down, the pair were open about the fact that they did want to do something special for the fans regardless. While both seemed sincere about their feelings for fans and their hopes to thank them for the support, the contest was seen by some viewers as engagement farming.
While Mark and Whitney did appear to genuinely want to involve their supportive fans in the live show, Dancing With The Stars it was adamant that they weren’t allowed to incentivize viewers in any way. This was, ultimately, the right choice for the sake of the competition and the safety of the ballroom, but Mark and Whitney not realizing that ahead of time was a concern for DWTS viewers.
