The General Authority for Health Insurance collects the services provided to the beneficiaries in the channel region

Since the start of the comprehensive health insurance system in 2019, the Egyptian state has made continuous efforts to provide comprehensive medical care to all citizens without discrimination, while guaranteeing their protection from the victims of medical expenses.

In this context, the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance provides services to beneficiaries in the cities and governorates of the Channel Region, which includes the governorates of Port Said, Ismailia, and Switzerland, by providing high-quality medical services and expanding health coverage.

Ms. May Farid, the executive director of the body, said that the comprehensive health insurance system, since the issuance of the law and the executive regulations and its approval for all citizens, has achieved a qualitative shift in the health services provided, indicating that the system is based on the principle of social solidarity between all groups, which protects the beneficiaries from the financial burdens resulting from treatment, while the number of service providers contracted with the General Authority for Comprehensive Insurance after being approved by the General Authority for Health Trust and Control (شبكة مقدمى حسمة) reached 493 entities so far Government and other representatives of the private sector.

She added, that the authority started the application gradually in the governorate of Port Said as the first pilot governorate in July 2019, then the official launch in November of the same year, to continue the expansion stages in the governorates of Al-Qasr in February 2021, and in Ismailia in July 2022, in South Sinai in January 2024, then in Al-Swiss in December 2024, and finally in Aswan in July 2025, confirming that the authority will continue to complete the next stages to cover all Defenders of the Republic by 2030, in line with the country’s vision to achieve a dignified life for all Egyptians.

She explained that the organization has since the beginning developed an integrated strategy aimed at providing an advanced health care system capable of responding to the needs of beneficiaries, guaranteeing excellent health services in a framework that protects the rights of all parties, protecting families from financial risks resulting from treatment, providing a financing system based on social solidarity that guarantees efficiency and sustainability, and encouraging investment in the health sector in cooperation with the public and private sectors.

And the executive director of the organization stressed that the state is responsible for paying the contributions in full from non-leaders, including “takaful and honor” beneficiaries and families whose income is insufficient to cover their daily needs.

Ms. Farid added that the success of the system in the region of the canal is a model to be followed.. she said: “The comprehensive health insurance is not just a financing system, but a national project that provides a decent life and integrated health care to all Egyptians without discrimination, and the organization is in the process of completing its journey to cover all governorates, in pursuit of the vision of Egypt 2030 in building a fair and sustainable health system.”

Allawa Muhammad Madhat, head of the central administration of the branch, pointed out that the authority in the canal region runs a strong network of 109 outlets (out of a total of 277 outlets in all provinces) provides services to all beneficiaries and covers all contracted units, centers and hospitals, in addition to the main headquarters and beneficiary service departments, and the number
1.5 million citizens (1,530,619) have access to the channel’s channels.
He added, saying: “It takes care of these channels to register the beneficiaries, and to issue letters of referral to external parties and letters of insurance coverage, in order to facilitate the citizen’s access to the service without administrative complications.”

Dr. Ahmed Abd al-Razaq, head of the central administration of financial claims at the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance, pointed out that the total number of invoices received for the administration of claims from the region reached 28,447,828 (twenty-eight million and twenty-seven thousand and eighty-eight thousand), and referrals outside the health care authority reached 204,400 referrals.
According to the students, the previous approval after 205,430 students, the last approval after 1,463 students, and the number of medical glasses used was 72,439.

Dr. Nasreen Hassan, the technical advisor of the agency’s branches in the channel, confirmed that the agency has entered into strategic partnerships with service providers in the public and private sectors, which contributed to improving the quality of the medical services provided.

Dr. Nasreen Hassan revealed that the authority provided multiple channels to communicate with the beneficiaries, including the dedicated hotline for receiving complaints and inquiries, the unified complaints system under the Prime Minister’s office, the official social media pages of the authority, field meetings and discussions with civil societies and unions to explain the advantages of the system.

She explained that the organization is working on future plans to strengthen the system, including attracting new investments in the health sector, expanding the contract base with more service providers, introducing complete digital transformation to facilitate procedures and follow-up services, increasing community awareness to ensure the benefit of all citizens.
