EXCLUSIVE: Florian Munteanu (Creed franchise) is set to star opposite Walton Goggins and Amber Midthunder in Painterthe action film marking the feature directorial debut of veteran stunt coordinator and second unit director Garrett Warren, which recently landed at 20th Century Studios with James Cameron among its executive producers.
No word yet on the role he’ll play. In the film, Midthunder portrays a young woman trained in combat from childhood who uses her skills to rescue her kidnapped father (Goggins), embarking on a perilous mission that tests her abilities to the limit.
The John Wick franchise’s Derek Kolstad wrote the script and will produce alongside Drew Simon and Sam Speiser of FilmNation’s Infrared Pictures, as well as Josh Adler of Circle M + P, with Cameron exec producing on behalf of Lightstorm Entertainment. JR Young is overseeing the project for the studio, with production launching in Serbia this month.
Introduced by FilmNation last fall as a sales title at AFM, the film originally had Alan Ritchson attached to star opposite Midthunder, although he was reportedly forced to exit the project due to scheduling conflicts.
A former heavyweight boxer from Romania, Munteanu made his big-screen debut as Viktor Drago in the second and third films in the Creed franchise. He’s also been seen in similar projects Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Borderlandsand Vikings: Valhallaand is repped by Gersh, Vault Entertainment, and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.
