One of Twilight‘s youngest stars have shared an enthusiastic response to being fancast as well Fourth Wing‘s dragon-riding protagonist, Violet Sorrengail. Earlier this year, it was reported that Prime Video had found a new showrunner—Wednesday and The Haunting of Hill House EP Meredith Averill—to lead the streamer’s adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ bestselling Empyrean romantic fantasy series.
With pre-production back on track, fans could once again begin imagining who might step into the shoes of Fourth Wing leads Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson, around whom Yarros’ entire story revolves. Understandably, fans of Yarros’ work have their own ideas of who should take on these all-important roles.
One of the most pervasive fancasts circulating on the internet visions Twilight and Interstellar star Mackenzie Foy as Violet Sorrengail. During a recent interview with Teen VogueFoy, who played Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward’s (Robert Pattinson) age-defying daughter Renesmee in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn parts 1 and 2, revealed that she was flattered by the Fourth Wing fandom’s interest in her.
“It’s got magic, it’s got dragons — it’s like, what’s not to love? I’m obsessed with it. The fact that there are people who want me to play Violet, that they would even think of me or want me for that, is really flattering,” Foy said, while pointing at Yarro’s books on her shelves during the interview. “It’s up to Ms. Yarros, so if she calls, I’m down.”
Getting Violet and Xaden’s casting right is crucial to Prime Video’s success Fourth Wing adaptation. Not only are they the book’s most powerful characters, but they also join forces to untangle their military’s corruption and defeat dark magic-wielding enemies—all while becoming increasingly romantically involved.
In Fourth WingViolet is roughly 20 years old, so the 24-year-old Foy is a reasonable contender for the role and could easily grow with the series. So far, Yarros has authored three Empyrean novels (Fourth Wing, Iron Flameand Onyx Storm), with two more planned.
As the race to produce the most popular “romance” adaptation continues—Hulu’s A Court of Thorns and Rosesbased on Sarah J. Maas’ phenomenon, has been shelved, while Netflix paid seven figures for the rights to adapt Callie Hart’s Quicksilver—it remains to be seen which actors will lead the next wave of high-stakes, romantic fantasy entertainment. Mackenzie Foy, at least, is ready and willing to lead Fourth Wing.
