The Golden Bachelor’s Cindy Cullers Isn’t The Best Match For Mel Owens

The Golden Bachelor season 2 lead Mel Owens has chosen his final two women, Cindy Cullers and Peg Munson, but he shouldn’t choose Cindy in the end. Mel, a 66-year-old NFL player-turned-lawyer and divorced father of two sons originally from Detroit, Michigan, began his journey with 23 women aged 58 to 77. He had a rocky start because he made some ageist comments on a podcast, during which he said that he only wanted to date women aged 45 to 60.

However, The Golden Bachelor season 2 began with Mel apologizing to the women, and he made some strong relationships with several of them. He’s now narrowed them down to just two women: Cindy, a 60-year-old divorced retired biomedical engineer from Austin, Texas; and Peg, a 62-year-old divorced retired firefighter and bomb tech from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Although Mel has a deep connection with Cindy, there are some reasons why she’s not the best match for him, and he shouldn’t choose her.

Mel Doesn’t Love Cindy Yet

Mel and Cindy had an immediate connection during the Golden Bachelor premiere night. Their one-on-one date was magical, especially when, at Griffith Observatory, he presented her with a star that he had named for her. However, Cindy’s hometown date revealed some cracks in their relationship that might prove that he shouldn’t choose her in the end.

Although Cindy and Mel have a beautiful bond, after her hometown date, Mel admitted in his confessional that he wasn’t in love with her yet. She told Mel that she was falling for him, but she stopped herself from saying “I love you” because she didn’t feel fully reassured that he loved her. In her confessional, Cindy shared that she wasn’t going to tell Mel that she loved him unless she thought that he felt it too.

In his confessional, Mel admitted that he wasn’t there yet, even though he and Cindy had a connection and chemistry. He explained that he doesn’t use the word, “love,” lightly because he’d only been in love once in his life and he got divorced, and it hurt.

It might be possible that Mel will fall in love with Cindy in the end, but, if he’s not feeling it by now, he might not ever. He shouldn’t have to learn to love her, or wait to see if it happens. Forcing himself to feel something that doesn’t come naturally will only end in heartache for both of them.

In addition, the fact that Cindy still doesn’t know how he feels is a bad sign for their relationship. Cindy is a wonderful woman who deserves someone who will be head over heels in love with her from the beginning of their relationship.

Cindy’s Daughters Weren’t Sure About Mel

During Cindy’s Golden Bachelor season 2 hometown date, Mel meets Cindy’s three daughters, Caroline, Sarah, and Emily. Cindy told them that she felt safe and secure with Mel, and that she had big feelings for him. She even informed them that she would be willing to move to California for him.

However, when Sarah talked to him, Mel confessed that, although he liked Cindy a lot, he didn’t know what was going to unfold in the next few weeks or months. In her confessional, Sarah stated that he didn’t give a lot of straight answers, and she was worried that he couldn’t give Cindy the long-term relationship that she wanted.

When Sarah and Cindy spoke privately, Sarah told her that Mel was reserved. Cindy tried to justify it by saying that it was hard for him to open up because he still had other women in the mix. However, Sarah was still unsure about him in the long run. Cindy assured her that she felt grounded and at peace with Mel, and she even admitted that she might love him.

Sarah cried as she told Cindy that she felt protective of her. She wondered if Mel loved her enough to choose only her forever. Sarah could tell that her mom loved Mel, and she hoped that he saw that and recognized how special she was. In her confessional, Cindy admitted that her kids not being sure about Mel made her question if she was missing something.

Cindy and Mel definitely have a deep connection, but his uncertainty about her is a bad sign for their relationship. Cindy’s daughters picked up on his doubts, and Cindy herself held back from telling him that she loved him because she wasn’t sure about how he felt about her. They still have their overnight Fantasy Suite date in Antigua without the cameras to figure things out, but it might be too late.

If Mel isn’t one hundred percent certain that he loves Cindy and that she’s The One, then he shouldn’t choose her in the end. Even though they might seem perfect for each other, it’s possible that Mel and Cindy simply aren’t the best match. Hopefully, they’ll both find the love that they’re searching for sooner rather than later, even if it’s not with each other.

The Golden Bachelor airs Wednesdays at 9 pm EDT on ABC.
