


While it is great for us, one thing that usually stops us from endlessly eating broccoli is its lack of taste. But by adding two store cupboard staples, it could become a flavor bomb.
Broccoli might just be the superhero of the veg world, packed with health perks that can do wonders for our well-being.
Yet, despite its superfood status, many of us aren’t exactly racing to scoff down heaps of the green stuff, thanks to its rather dull and uninspiring reputation on the taste front.
Often relegated to a last-ditch effort to inject some vitamins into dinner, boiled broccoli tends to land on the plate as the dullest part of the meal.
But chuck in a couple of kitchen staples and switch up your cooking method, and you could transform those humble florets into a taste sensation you’ll want to devour time and again.
Simply toss it in a scorching oven to roast, then crown it with a dusting of garlic and a generous helping of freshly grated parmesan cheese, reports the Express.
Garlic and parmesan are practically culinary fairy dust for savory dishes, especially when it comes to perking up broccoli.
The real game-changer, though, is ditching the pot of boiling water for the oven. Culinary whizz Nagi Maehashi, the brains behind RecipeTinEats blog, is a staunch advocate for this approach.
She says: “The thing that makes this particular recipe the best broccoli recipe ever is that it’s so quick and easy and yet so good.”
Roasting not only keeps the broccoli’s robust flavors intact – avoiding the watery fate of boiling – but also teases out a rich, almost sweet taste from the caramelisation that only an oven can achieve.
Adding garlic and parmesan to the mix really amps up the taste, transforming those humble broccoli stalks from a neglected side dish into the star of your dinner plate.
Method:
- First, preheat an oven to around 200C before cutting the florets from the stalks of a full head of broccoli.
- Place on a baking tray, give a good drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
- Place in the oven and roast for 15 to 20 minutes, until lightly browned.
- Once starting to turn, add in two cloves of chopped garlic and roast for five to 10 minutes until fully cooked and tender.
- When cooked and still hot, top with around 70g of freshly grated Parmesan cheese and serve up.
Sure, the broccoli’s scrummy with just garlic and cheese, but chuck in a few pine nuts and a generous drizzle of lemon for that extra crunch and zing, and you’re onto a winner.
