Jeddah – Mona Al-Muji:
The Red Sea International Film Festival revealed today, Tuesday, November 4, during the press conference, the list of feature films participating in its official competition, which will compete for the Red Awards in the fifth session of the festival, which will be held in the historic city of Jeddah from December 4 to 13, 2025.
This year’s official competition takes place in various cinematographic genres, from fiction and documentary films to animated films, with action from Asia, Africa, the Arab world, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
This year, there are seven films supported by the Red Sea Cinema System, including the film nominated to represent the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the Oscars, the film “Hijra” for the producer Shahed Amin, as well as the film nominated to represent Lebanon in the Oscars, the film “Njoom Amal Walalm”. وشارك المخرجة زين دريعي بمها فيلمة الأول الغرق, على فيلم “رقية” ليانيس كوسّيم والمُستند إلى “العشرية السودة” في الجزائر. The list includes the animated cartoon film “Allah is not in love” which was shown at the festival, as well as the Kenyan documentary “Trak Mama” which shines a light on the real stories of courage and persistence.
وتشهد العربية العربية العربية العلمية للفيلم الروائي “بارني” وتلى ترقيبة المرحج محمد شيخ والمصوَّر في السومال, إذي يتناول كوستا في اكتفافا كاملة في غامضة. The competition also witnessed the regional screenings of the film “Mosman, the Stranger” by director Miyake, who won the “Golden Gold Award” at the Locarno Festival, and the film “The Lost Land” by director Akio Fujimoto, which is the first long-form narrative film presented in the Rohingya language. The competition is hosted by the Palestinian film “اللي باقي منك” by the director Shirin Daeibas, which follows the story of a girl who goes to protest in the West Bank from the perspective of her mother, along with the latest work of the director Abu Bakr Shawky, the Egyptian film “THE STORIES”, and the Iraqi film “إركالا حلم كلكامش” by the director Muhammad Al-Daraji.
On his part, Antoan Khalifa, director of the Arabic and classical cinema program at the Red Sea International Film Festival, said: “This year, we continue to expand the horizons of what Arabic cinema can represent from visions and trades, through our official competition, which includes works rooted in local environments, and which at the same time carry in their essence a humanistic sense of the world. عرب القصصٍ تعيد رسم سردنا الجميع عبر قصصٍ بالحجرة والحوية والتحوّل, تُروى بصدق والحوية ووضوح. يستلهم صنعو هذه عقمة ليقدموا حكايات تمتمّ عبر العربية, وحبّ عرض, والموسیقی, والتحوّل.
Fain Halighan, director of the international film program, added: “This year’s selections show common humanitarian themes, from the story of the missing girl in the film Barney, coming from Somalia, to the suffering of the Rohingya refugees in the waste land. The competition also witnessed the first participation of the Korean film – the world of love -, along with works from China and Kenya, in a diversity that reflects the festival’s commitment to promoting cultural dialogue between the East. والغرب عبر لغة الكيناما. وتكرّم هذا فيلما صُنّاعها فيلمون بحدود كيناماعي عليه افاق جيديدين أن المقدمة بين الثقافات هو المصدر الأحمد الالفن الحقيقة.”
