

Dr. Khalid Abd al-Ghafar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, held a meeting with Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Ashour, Professor and Director of the Cancer Laboratory at the University of Oxford, to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the Ministry of Health and Population, Higher Education and Scientific Research and the University of Oxford.
During the meeting, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghafar confirmed the commitment of the Egyptian state to give top priority to cancer, given that it is one of the most prominent health challenges facing society, especially with the high incidence rates globally and regionally, pointing out that this attention comes within the framework of the state’s strategy to combat non-communicable diseases, with an emphasis on supporting scientific research, developing early detection systems, accurate diagnosis, and advanced treatments, which contribute to improving the quality of health care.
He added that the Ministry of Health and Population seeks to expand partnerships with leading international academic and research institutions, such as the University of Oxford, with the aim of transferring and localizing advanced technology, training medical staff, and providing innovative treatments that increase recovery rates, improve the quality of life of patients, and reduce the burden on the national health system.
For his part, Dr. Hossam Abd al-Gaghfar, the official spokesman of the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting was aimed at implementing a discussion protocol for the treatment of leukemia and lymphoma using CAR-T-Cell technology in Egypt, as well as the methods of applying this advanced technology to provide effective and innovative treatments for cancer tumors.


And Dr. Khaled Abd al-Ghafar presented the national efforts to face cancer diseases through the presidential initiatives and national projects, which are the main pillar of the public health strategy, confirming that these initiatives implement the presidential directives aimed at promoting early detection, providing free treatment, and raising public awareness, which contributes to reducing the incidence and mortality rates caused by cancer.
For his part, Dr. Ayman Ashour confirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to promote cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Population to activate advanced discussion protocols, such as those for the treatment of leukemia and lymphoma, reflecting the national focus on integration between scientific research and the needs of the health sector.
He pointed out that Egyptian universities and research centers have the necessary capabilities to support the state’s efforts in dealing with chronic and complex diseases through innovation and exchange of knowledge with advanced international institutions, adding that the next phase will see more coordination to activate research cooperation models in priority areas, especially non-communicable diseases, in line with the state’s vision to build an advanced health and education system based on modern knowledge and technology.
