In a new step within the comprehensive plan for the development of the health care system within the hospitals of the University of Tanta, Dr. Ahmed Ghonim, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and President of the Board of Management of the University Hospitals, announced the issuance of an administrative decision to transfer the women’s disease unit of the Women’s Department to the French educational hospital.
Dr. Ghonim explained, in special statements to the “Egyptian Times”, that the new unit is equipped with 50 beds, and includes permanent operating rooms, and a modern monitoring unit equipped with the latest medical devices specialized in women’s diseases. This step is aimed at improving the quality of medical services, especially in light of the great pressure the department is experiencing as a result of receiving emergency cases from the hospitals of the Ministry of Health and neighboring wards.
Ghanim confirmed that the work will continue normally inside the new unit, with the modification of the emergency room system for resident doctors to 24 hours instead of 48, divided into two periods of 12 hours each, in order to ensure the comfort of the doctors and achieve a balance with the quality of the medical service, especially since the nature of the department requires close monitoring of emergencies and childbirth around the clock.
He also pointed out that the college administration held a joint meeting with the resident doctors to listen to their complaints, and a large number of their demands were met, including speeding up the registration procedures for higher studies and improving the opportunities for practical training inside hospitals.
