For the last few years, we’ve lived in a world where Sambas and sneakers were the go-to golden footwear, and that low-key comfort isn’t going anywhere soon. That said, people are collectively itching for something a bit more dressed up (without wearing sky-high stilettos), and the versatile kitten heel has emerged as a fashion winner.
“The fashion girls are quickly finding ways to move them from a cutesy, demure look to a versatile, fresh take,” says Sharonda Irving, professional image consultant.
What’s so great about kitten heels is that they lend a little lift and polish to almost any outfit without forcing the vibe. Here’s some kitten heel styling inspiration to try it.

Classic Cropped Denim and a Button-Down
Irving says that the trick with kitten heels is to make sure you’re steering very clear of anything childish-looking. For that reason, she likes to take a classic approach when styling kitten keels. One of her favorite looks is with cropped or cuffed denim and any top, including a blouse, button-down, or knitwear. You can add a structured blazer or a blouse and accessorize with jewelry.

Column Skirt and Blouse
There’s something about the column skirt that instantly makes you look put together. Add a kitten heel and a tailored blouse, and suddenly you feel like the most powerful woman in the world. To pull the look together, add some jewelry, a belt, and a handbag with matching hardware.

Mini Skirt and Tights
The mini skirt is a big ’90s trend that’s found its way back into the zeitgeist. If you’re into the idea of showing a lot of leg, consider adding a little kitten heel to your look. A pair of tights levels up the glam factor while keeping you warmer in the cooler months.

Flowy Midi Skirt
A calf-length skirt paired with kitten heels is a classic, feminine look. “I love a gently flared or pleated skirt with a tucked-in blouse or a soft knit,” notes Michelle Barrett, personal stylist and founder of Capsule Closet Stylist. “The heel adds just the right amount of height to elongate the leg, and it’s perfect for both workdays and weekends.” Add a jacket or cardigan for a bit of structure.

Wide-Leg Trousers
Kitten heels are brilliant with wide-leg trousers or culottes because they balance the volume of the pant leg while adding a bit of lift. “Try a pair of tailored, high-waisted trousers with a tucked-in tee or a lightweight jumper,” Barrett suggests. “The heel peeking out from a wider hem feels chic but not overdone.”

Elevated Athleisure
For more of a “run errands, but look great while doing it” vibe, Irving says to pair a subtle kitten heel with a pair of joggers and a nice t-shirt. Throw a cropped work jacket over it to complete the look. “The athleisure and sports wear outside of the gym trend is not showing signs of going anywhere,” Irving says.

Midi Dress
When styling a midi dress, the kitten heel works overtime for you. “I always recommend a floaty, printed midi dress with a low heel for a look that’s both comfortable and stylish,” Barrett says. “It’s perfect for brunch, a day out shopping, or even a casual evening event. Accessorize with a matching crossbody bag.”
