The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Tanta saw a case of rapid action after the explosion of a crisis in the women’s and obstetrics department, which represented the presentation of 8 new doctors at once out of 15 doctors in the department, which caused a wide reaction on social media amid questions about the reasons for this sudden collective move.
Dr. Ahmed Ghonim, Dean of the College, announced the meeting of a number of faculty members and the management of the department together with the doctors concerned to discuss the dimensions of the crisis and discuss the reasons that led this number of doctors to take the decision to resign collectively, indicating that the goal of the meeting is to listen to all opinions and reach practical solutions that ensure the establishment of the working environment within the department and maintain the continuity of providing medical services to patients without being affected.
And the crisis came after the manifesto written by the doctor Rānīn Jabr on social media, in which she talked about the real suffering experienced by doctors in the department of psychological and professional pressure and lack of appreciation, which led to her decision to resign with seven of her colleagues, and which caused a situation of solidarity on the one hand and controversy on the other hand about the nature of work in higher education hospitals.
The dean of the college emphasized that the University of Tantaa prioritizes ensuring a professional working environment, protecting the dignity of doctors and supporting their professional and psychological stability, stressing that any complaint raised by employees receives the full attention of the administration and is treated seriously without prejudice to ensure the maintenance of the quality of health care on the one hand and the rights of the medical staff on the other hand.
The meeting discussed the proposals put forward to improve the situation within the department and it is scheduled to be announced in the next few days about a set of decisions and recommendations aimed at addressing the problems raised and developing internal working mechanisms that ensure the balance between the medical service provided and the comfort of the medical team in charge.
This crisis is one of the most prominent challenges faced by the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Tanta in the recent period, especially since the department dealing with the crisis represents a key pillar in the university’s medical system and receives daily critical and emergency situations from multiple departments.
