The University of Cairo has achieved an unprecedented medical achievement, under the supervision of Dr. Hussam Salah, Dean of the College of Medicine of Qasr Al-Ainy and Chairman of the Board of Management of the University of Cairo Hospitals, where the medical team of the Emergency Department of the University Hospitals succeeded in performing the first medical intervention of its kind in the University Hospitals to change the aortic valve using the TAVI catheter technique, and with the support of the ECMO device, for a patient in a critical condition and life-threatening complications as a result of acute myocardial infarction. بالصمام الأورطي وانسدادات حديدة في الشرايين التاجية.

The president of Cairo University confirmed that this achievement reflects the international level that the university has reached in the medical and academic fields, and confirms the vision of Qasr Al-Ainy as a prestigious institution to keep up with the latest developments in science in dealing with complex cases, and its possession of scientific and professional competencies, and international technical equipment, expressing the pride of Cairo University in its distinguished medical staff that spares no effort in developing the abilities of its doctors and their skills in order to save lives so that the university remains a beacon of medicine in Egypt and the East. On the other hand, Dr. Hossam Salah, dean of Qasr Al-Ainy Medical College and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cairo University Hospitals, said that the operation began to repair the narrowing of the left and right coronary artery, using medical devices supported by intra-arterial ultrasound (IVUS) technology, and then the aortic valve was changed with the advanced TAVI technology, adding that the patient was connected to the ECMO device before starting the procedure, due to the severity of the condition and the possibility of cardiac arrest, which is the procedure which reflected the highest levels of professionalism and previous planning.
Dr. Hussam Salah added that this procedure was carried out by an integrated medical team from several specialties, including emergency medicine, anesthesiology, vascular surgery, technicians, and nursing, led by a select group of doctors, physicians, and young staff who showed a high level of competence and scientific readiness.
