The head of the desert research center opens a workshop to support the African youth to combat desertification


Dr. Hussam Shawky, the head of the Sahara Research Center, opened the center in cooperation with the Alexandria Library, on the occasion of the celebration of Egypt’s World Ballium for Desertification and Drought, with the participation of a select group of young people from the African country.

The head of the center conveyed his greetings to Farooq, the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reform, who was responsible for this event, pointing out that Alwarsha represents a platform for exchanging information and promoting integration between African youth in the implementation of sustainable development goals, and implementing the resolutions of the Sixth Conference of the Parties to the Agreement (COP16).

Shawky emphasized in his speech the importance of Alwarsha in supporting and empowering African youth and strengthening their capacities in the fields of combating desertification, climate change, and preserving biological diversity, as part of Egypt’s commitment to desertification on the continent, and during the course of the Sahara Research Center as the national coordinating body of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

واختتم كلمته على على أن مركز برقه صحرة سياوسل كابورة على البروجينيلين والدوليين سبحان الشابب كعنصر المعلومية على الفريقة عفريقي 2063, متمنيًا لليكي ورشة ومشرة وممرة.

The opening was attended by Dr. Marwa Al-Wakiel, head of the scientific research sector at the Alexandria Library, on behalf of Dr. Ahmed Zayed, head of the library, and Dr. Muhammad Ezzat, deputy head of the Desert Research Center for Projects and Research Stations, and Dr. Ahmed Abd al-Aati, head of the Science and Technology Committee of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and a number of experts and officials involved in environmental and sustainable development issues.
