In a scientific achievement, a qualitative shift in cancer treatment has been achieved, the research team from the University of Texas at Austin was able to develop an innovative treatment technique based on the combination of light and nanodevices to target cancer cells with unprecedented accuracy, without harming the surrounding healthy cells.

According to the “Daily Mail”, the experiments carried out on human cells with skin cancer and colon cancer revealed the ability of this innovation to destroy up to 92% of cancer cells in just 30 minutes, using ordinary LED lamps that emit infrared light, along with tin oxide nanochips (SnOx).

These fine particles are distinguished by their ability to penetrate into cancer cells and absorb light, then turn into an internal heat source that raises the temperature of cells up to 19 °C, which leads to the inactivation of vital proteins and the destruction of the cell membrane and the death of the cancer cell.

Dr. John Enkorfia, the main researcher of the project, explained that the goal of the study is to reach an effective and low-cost treatment that can be used easily, confirming that the combination of LED technology and nanochips represents a safe alternative to the traditional laser used in high-cost thermal treatments.

The study, published in the ACS Nano scientific magazine, is a step forward in the field of photothermal therapy, but it differs from previous technologies in that it is safer and safer to use.

The researchers hope that these results will lead to the development of home treatment devices that are used after surgery to destroy the remnants of cancer cells and prevent the disease from returning, especially in areas with limited resources.

According to recent medical statistics, more than 5 million cases of skin cancer are recorded annually in the United States, while colon cancer cases are estimated at 152 thousand, which makes this innovation a new ray of hope in the face of one of the most dangerous diseases of the age.
