Wallace and Gromit sequel premieres with ‘perfect’ critics score – here’s when you can watch it

The highly-anticipated return of Wallace and Gromit is finally almost upon us, but when will the new feature-length sequel be available to watch?

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is one of this year’s most eagerly awaited sequels and it’s just scored rave reviews from critics.

The claymation odd couple, formed by eccentric, cheese-loving inventor Wallace (played by Ben Whitehead, replacing Peter Sallis) and his silent dog Gromit, will finally be back on screens more than 15 years after their last caper, A Matter of Loaf and Death.

In this new feature-length adventure, Gromit becomes concerned his master is relying too much on his inventions when he creates a smart gnome with artificial intelligence that goes rogue.

Wallace’s canine companion must come to his rescue when a nefarious figure from their past – the criminal penguin mastermind Feathers McGraw from The Wrong Trousers – is revealed as the puppetmaster of another evil scheme.

The film currently has a coveted 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes with 26 critics reviews and is currently being regarded as one of the best animated films of the year.

But when will audiences get the chance to see it?

Unfortunately, Wallace and Gromit’s latest outing won’t be screened on the big screen, but that means fans will be able to watch it for free very soon.

Vengeance Most Fowl will have its home premiere on Christmas Day, December 25, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

A full schedule for Christmas hasn’t been confirmed just yet but, as Wallace and Gromit is suitable for all ages, it’s more than likely to air before the 9pm watershed.

After the release on BBC, international viewers will get the chance to tune in a few days earlier as it will be dropping on Netflix on Friday, January 3.

For UK viewers, Aardman’s long-awaited sequel is guaranteed to be a Christmas highlight if the reviews are to be believed.

Zach Pope called the film “the true definition of an utter delight.”

“The charm, the laughs, and now their poignant satire on AI & Technology dependence will strike many with truthfulness but total entertainment. The return of Feathers McGraw lives up to his evilness!”

Clarisse Loughrey of the Independent said: “Vengeance Most Fowl is proof the traditional can still thrive – not only in how a film looks, but even in the barrage of puns and corny dad jokes.”

And Time Out critic Philip De Semlyen wrote: “It’s the two characters with no dialogue at all, Gromit and Feathers, who steal the show — a pair of silent cinema-style adversaries sparring in another joyfully Aardman nostalgic caper.”

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl premieres Wednesday, December 25 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer before being released on Netflix on Friday, January 1.
