You don’t need me to tell you it’s cold outside! Fine, winter doesn’t officially begin until December 21st, but the current temperatures definitely began to differ. Sartorially, this means our fall jackets alone are no longer enough to cut it. Instead, we’re breaking out the big dogs—aka the winter coats that will keep us toasty and cute.
If, like us, you’re not willing to sacrifice style in the name of warmth, we’ve got good news: there’s no need to freeze this season thanks to the stylish and cozy coat and jacket trends courtesy of the Fall/Winter 2025 runways. The seasonal collections were practically unanimous in their designs, from floor-sweeping numbers guaranteed to make leaving the house on frosty mornings that much easier (not to mention chicer) to faux fur delights you won’t want to take off from now through to party season. Plus, the most practical of all coat styles received a revival in the form of puffers that could practically double as duvets.

Long line coats
If you’re looking to buy one coat style this season, make it a long-line floor-sweeping number. Designers from Acne and Calvin Klein to Prada and Simone Rocha, with plenty in between, all showcased ankle-grazing outerwear in every way of colorway and fabric.
Faux fur coats
Speaking of fabrics… When it comes to tactile textures, faux fur was a standout on the FW25 runways at the likes of Gucci, Chloé, Fendi, and many more. Opting for a longer faux fur coat lets you tick off two trends in one, but hip-finishing lengths are still more than acceptable. As for colors, brown proved a firm favorite with shades of olive and khaki green also popping up.
XL leather jackets
XL means extra long, in this instance! Leather jackets featured heavily on the FW25 runways across multiple silhouettes—from bombers to classic bikers—but it was the fresh takes on the timeless style that really caught our eye. Calf-length trench coats were reimagined in glossy leather finishes, as seen at Chloé, Stella McCartney, and Tory Burch, while single-breasted button-down coats in matte finishes were the design du jour at Coach, Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, and Acne Studios.
Scarf coats
Scarf coats are by no means a new trend, having emerged over the past few seasons, but the design dominated runways across all four of the big fashion weeks. From styles with attached scarves wrapped around necks, like at Burberry, to cape-inspired numbers featuring swathes of fabric offering a cocoon-like silhouette, see Calvin Klein, one thing’s for sure. We need no encouragement to wrap up warm this season.
Puffer jackets
When it comes to staying warm, you can’t beat a puffer jacket. Luckily, designers including Balenciaga, Sacai, Cecilie Bahnsen, Lacoste, DSquared2, and Viktor & Rolf all agreed. There were variations in design—from cinched and belted styles to full-length iterations—but all had that signature Michelin Man voluminous, quilted silhouette.
