Molly Ringwald (Feud: Capote and the Swans) and LeVar Burton (Roots, Reading Rainbow) have joined the cast of Universal Pictures’ One Night Onlywhich hits theaters on August 7, 2026. They join the previously announced leads Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner.
The screenplay is a rewrite of Travis Braun’s Black List script about two strangers who scramble to find someone to sleep with on the one night of the year when premarital sex is legal, by Will Gluck, who also directs. It’s also unknown whether Gluck’s version will stray from the original premise.
Ringwald will play Turner’s mom, with Burton as her partner, sources tell Deadline.
Gluck will produce through Olive Bridge Entertainment. Jacqueline Monetta, VP Olive Bridge Entertainment, will oversee and also produce. Universal’s Senior EVP Production Development Erik Baiers and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee for the studio.
Ringwald’s recent credits include Ryan Murphy’s Feud: Capote and the Swans, his Netflix miniseries Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Storythe Emmy-winning FX series The Bear, the CW’s Riverdale and the independent feature Bad Things, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Known for the iconic 1980s John Hughes films Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club and Sixteen CandlesRingwald began his film career in Paul Mazursky’s Tempestlater starring in The Pick-Up Artist, For Keeps, Fresh Horses and Betsy’s Weddingamong many others. She is repped by Barking Dog Entertainment and Untitled Entertainment.
Emmy-winning actor, director, producer and podcaster Burton is the host and executive producer of Trivial Pursuit for Lionsgate, Hasbro and the CW. He is known for his decades-long commitment to storytelling, education and cultural impact through his work on Reading Rainbowwhich earned more than 200 broadcast awards including multiple Emmys and a Peabody. As a performer, he first captured national attention with his iconic portrayal of Kunta Kinte in the landmark miniseries roots, and went on to star as Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation.
