Dr. Issa Zeidan, general manager of the restoration and transfer of antiquities at the Al-Masri Al-Kabir Museum, said that the process of transferring antiquities varies depending on the size and nature of the pieces, and requires special information and careful procedures.
Dr. Zeidan explained, during a special meeting on the “New Morning” program on the screen of the Cairo News Channel, that the team responsible for the restoration, packaging and transportation consists of a distinguished group of graduates of the College of Antiquities with master’s and doctorate degrees, who underwent training courses inside Egypt and abroad, in countries such as Japan and America, before starting to move the antiquities, noting that this knowledge qualifies them to deal with each piece according to its nature.
“Zaidan” explained that the team carefully studies the condition of each artifact to determine its weak and strong points, then wraps it with special materials free of acid, to ensure that the material does not interact with the artifact, adding: “We use advanced materials to protect the artifacts from damage during transportation.”
He pointed out that the transfer of the antiquities was in stages, including large collections from the Tahrir Museum and the War Museum, where the war wheel was located, as well as Ali Hassan’s warehouses in Luxor, which contained sensitive pieces such as jewelry, jewelry, and alabaster vessels, admitting that this part was a big challenge because of the condition of these pieces, as foreign missions and scientific institutes pointed out the difficulty of moving them.
