Neal H. Moritz’s Original Film Re-Ups Deal With Sony Pictures TV

EXCLUSIVE: Prolific film and TV producer Neal H. Moritz and his production banner Original Film have signed a new overall deal with Sony Pictures Television where the company’s TV operation has been based since 2015. Under the multi-year pact, Moritz and Pavun Shetty, who has closed a new deal as Partner and President of Television at Original Film, will continue to work on Original Film’s existing series for the indie TV studio and develop new projects.

“Over the last 10 years, I’ve had an incredible run with Sony thanks to their unwavering support and the creative independence they provide,” Moritz said. “Pavun and I can’t wait to continue and expand on that partnership with Ravi, Keith, Katherine, and their whole team.”

Since coming to Sony TV, Original Film has generated a slew of series, including preacher, which ran on AMC for four seasons, and SWATwhich aired on CBS for eight seasons, with the library landing on Netflix. It is being succeeded by the upcoming spinoff series SWAT Exilesheadlined by the mothership’s Shemar Moore.

Original Film’s The Boys has become a flagship series for Prime Video with strong viewership and Emmy recognition, spawning a franchise which includes spinoff Gen V, whose second season has been topping Prime Video’s daily charts, and the upcoming prequel Vought Rising starring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash.

Other series to come out of Original Film’s Sony TV deals to date include limited series Long Bright Riverstarring Amanda Seyfried, for Peacock; goosebumps, which ran on Hulu/Disney+ for two seasons; Cruel Intentions and I Know What You Did Last Summer on Prime Video; and the upcoming animated comedy Golden Axebased on the popular SEGA videogame, for Comedy Central.

Original Film’s development slate includes adaptations of the New York Times bestselling book The God of the Woodsfrom Long Bright River author Liz Moore, and IQIYI’s The Bad Kids with Marco Ramirez set as showrunner.
