He pointed out that the price committee depends on the average prices during the past three months instead of immediate fluctuations, which means that the effect of the recent drop in oil prices was not reflected in the price equation.
Many oil experts confirmed that the government’s decision to increase the price of gasoline and diesel to the pound, despite the drop in international oil prices and the improvement in the price of the Egyptian pound, is due to internal financial and structural pressures and government obligations that exceed the immediate effects of international factors.
Three reporters confirmed that recent positive factors were not enough to push the government towards price increases, as Egypt’s energy system still faces challenges related to rising import costs and debt accumulation in the oil and electricity sectors, in addition to the International Monetary Fund’s commitment to gradually reduce energy subsidies.
The government did not ignore the drop in oil prices and the increase in the price of the oil
And the economic expert Wael al-Nahhas said that the government did not ignore the drop in oil prices and the rise in the value of the currency, but instead used the positive factors to reduce its height.
He confirmed that the allocations for the energy support are defined in advance and cannot be exceeded. Therefore, any improvement in the indicators is aimed at reducing the financial burden, not lowering the prices.
The current policy aims to implement progressive prices
Al-Nahas explained that the current policy aims to apply gradual prices that reflect real costs, taking into account the economic situation, instead of returning to fuel subsidies.
He confirmed that an improvement in the exchange rate or oil prices will not reverse this trend.

Muhammad Fouad, the economic expert and member of the political office of the Justice Party, explained that the increase in prices during this period is more of an economic decision than a political one.
Al-Sayed Fahad explained that the system suffers from a structural problem, represented by the accumulation of oil and electricity debts and the decrease in local production of derivatives, which led to an increase in dependence on imports and direct exposure to the prices of international currencies.
He added that this situation puts pressure on the monetary balance of payments and security, which leads to higher support costs.
Therefore, it is necessary to raise fuel prices more than ever before to reduce the price gap and reduce pressure on the public budget.
