The Sentimental Value trailer reveals the most emotional moments from Stellan Skarsgård’s Oscar-worthy movie. Directed by Joachim Trier, who co-wrote the script with Eskil Vogt, the two having received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay for The Worst Person in the World (2022), their latest film, Sentimental Valuepremiered at Cannes this past May and is also garnering major Oscar buzz.
Now, NEON has released the second official trailer for Sentimental Value. It follows sisters Nora and Agnes, who reconnect with their estranged father, the charming and once-famous director Gustav (played by Stellan Skarsgård), who offers stage actress Nora a leading role in the film he hopes will revive his career.
However, Nora refuses, and she later learns that her father has handed the role to an ambitious young Hollywood actress. Now, the sisters must confront their complicated relationship with Gustav, while contending with the presence of an American star suddenly thrust into their already fraught family dynamic. Sentimental Value premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival this past May, where it earned widespread praise and won the Grand Prixthe second-most prestigious prize after the Palme d’Or, for skillfully navigating the delicate balance between artistic expression and personal relationships, resulting in a remarkably mature film that features outstanding performances from its entire cast.
The trailer highlights much of this acclaimwith critics calling it “a perfect, transcendent film,” “a deeply beautiful expression that art can heal us,” and “one of the best films of the decade, if not ever.” There is also much praise for the performances, claiming that “every choice by Renate Reinsve is a complete revelation,” “Elle Fanning is extraordinary,” and calling the film “a reminder that Stellan Skarsgård is one of the best actors of his generation.”

However, it’s also expected to compete in several other categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for Renate Reinsve, Best Supporting Actor for Stellan Skarsgård, Best Supporting Actress for Elle Fanning, and Best Original Screenplay.
