Dr. Natalya Zolotaryova, Russian cardiologist, pointed out that lack of sleep directly affects heart health and blood vessels.
She explained that the body passes through sleep in several stages, most notably slow-wave sleep and fast-wave sleep, adding that the slow-wave sleep stage is very important because it helps the body restore physical strength, reduce heart rate, regulate blood pressure, activate hormone production, and regenerate tissues, according to the Russian newspaper “gazeta”.
Zolotariofa said: “When a person suffers from lack of sleep regularly, it disturbs metabolism and hormonal balance, which leads to high blood pressure and increased levels of inflammatory cytokines, thereby increasing the risk of atherosclerosis and heart failure.”
It follows that lack of deep sleep affects the hormones algerlin and leptin, which are responsible for regulating appetite, which leads to weight gain, metabolic syndrome, and disturbances in glucose metabolism, as well as interruption of breathing during sleep increases the release of adrenaline, which exposes the heart to risks such as high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, stroke, and myocardial infarction.
To reduce these risks and improve sleep quality, follow these simple tips, including:
don’t drink coffee and drink before sleeping.
I ate dinner before the hour to the hour and half of the night.
Turning off electronic devices before sleep.
keep the temperature of the room comfortable and cold.
The doctor confirmed that healthy sleep is not just rest, but it is an essential factor in maintaining longevity and heart health, including controlling blood pressure, strengthening immunity, and improving mood and cognitive functions.
She pointed out that attention to sleep quality should be part of preventing heart disease and other health problems.
She added that chronic sleep problems should not be ignored, pointing out that feeling tired in the morning, or having trouble sleeping, or waking up frequently during the night, are indications of sleep disorders.
