Dog owners will be worried about how to keep their beloved pets calm during fireworks season and one trick is to settle down for a movie night together
Dog owners worried about their canine friends this bonfire night have been told which films they should stream to keep them calm and they can watch it on a dedicated channel.
As many pets are concerned as people start to host fireworks displays ahead of November 5, Sky and Now TV have teamed up with Dogs Trust to launch a dedicated channel to help. They’ve also issued key advice for all owners on how to choose the perfect movie to watch with their dog for a cozy night away from the loud noises and bangs.
Found on Sky channel 310, the dedicated broadcast will air from 6am on November 1 until 6am on November 6, featuring hit movies perfect for owners and dogs alike. The collection of movies will also be available to watch on demand and with a NOW Cinema pass.
Dogs Trust have helped to narrow down the around 1,000 titles available on the service to 21 titles that are the best ones for owners to stream.
Choosing the right film for you and your dog to enjoy together can also depend on what you enjoy yourself. If you choose something that keeps you calm and happy, then chances are it will help your best friend feel the same way.
The dog charity advise choosing a title that can make you laugh, experience joy and feel good and this year’s recommendations include sci-fi classic with a near perfect 99% Rotten Tomatoes score, ET
It’s best if they also include bright colors, slow pacing, gentle music and positive emotions. Must avoid including intense or suspenseful content with sudden noises, loud dramatic music, or sound effects like gunshots, thunder, or fireworks.
They should also not contain scenes that induce fear, anxiety, or anger in viewers or negative, emotional human sounds such as crying, screaming, or shouting. You should also avoid films with extensive visuals and/or sounds of other dogs or animals, as this can be a trigger for some animals.

Jenna Kiddie, Head of Canine Behavior at Dogs Trust said: “Firework season can be particularly stressful for dogs as the loud bangs and flashes can cause fear and anxiety. Around half the UK’s dogs are affected by fireworks in some way, and fear can develop even in dogs who previously haven’t shown signs of distress.
“Dogs respond to fireworks in a range of different ways, so it’s crucial to have a clear plan ahead of time to help your own dog cope.
“A calm, relaxed environment can make a big difference in helping your dog feel safe and supported during fireworks season, so owners should plan for a cozy night in with them.
