South Park is switching airtimes for some holiday fun. This week, the show will air on Halloween for an episode dedicated to Trump’s demolishing the White House’s east wing. This will be the second episode of season 28, after a teensy 5-show season 27. In promotional materials for the second episode of season 28, it looks like Satan is helping the president go Flip or Flop on the White House, which unleashes “a disruptive spirit from the east wing.” Meanwhile in Colorado, Stan worries that South Park (the town, not the show, but maybe also the show?) has “gotten too political.”
Kyle and Stan tend to work as author surrogates for South Park, so it’s highly likely Stan’s worries mirror that of the creators. Even if it’s starting to bug Matt and Trey artistically, it’s been a boon for the show’s national profile. South Park‘s recent uber political skew has been great for ratings, with season 27’s Trump takedown premiere being the best the show has done in 25 years. South Park also parodied Charlie Kirk weeks before his death, something he was very proud of. It’s the first post-assassination show mostly dealing with sports betting, but also highly critical of Benjamin Netanyahu. That’s three third rails in American politics in a row. Maybe Stan has a point?
