In 2019, The Atlantic posited that there are two types of people when it comes to going to the airport: those who show up at the airport four hours before departure and those who roll up to the gate just before the boarding call ends. With that in mind, I suggest there are two types of people when it comes to Halloween: those who prepare their costumes for weeks (or months) in advance, crafting elaborate, beautiful, sometimes other-worldly creations that are truly transformative.
Then there’s the rest of us who wait until the week of Halloween and roll up to the closest Spirit Halloween store, or in the digital age, rely on Amazon Prime and hope that last-minute costume shows up in less than two days or less. If you fall into the latter group, you’re certainly not alone. You’re probably also looking for a last minute costume idea—one that is not the usual cat, witch, or hot version of a Disney princess.
But this year, a recent news story that fascinated the world has presented the ultimate last minute Halloween costume. That would be one of the Louvre heist robbers, of course. Two suspects were reportedly arrested Monday in the case just one week after a group of thieves broke into the legendary Parisian art museum and stole a collection of priceless French Crown Jewels.
While minimal details were released about their identities, that doesn’t mean you can’t use your imagination to dress like them! After all, part of the drama of this heist was that it took place on a Sunday morning in broad daylight, and there has been plenty of video footage of the robbery shared on social media from the scene since that day.
In a video shared by BBC News while two of the thieves were making their escape down a retractable ladder from the second floor of the Louvre, one Internet commenter described it as the “slowest escape and the one with the highest visibility.” But the robbers can be seen wearing all black with yellow safety vests.
This is an easy enough costume to put together instantly on Amazon, all of which should ship in two days or less with Prime. You can also pick up some knockoff jewelry of your own, including this very cheap dupe of Empress Eugénie’s Pearl Tiara:
Lightweight Jersey Long Sleeve Turtleneck

Women’s Flat Front Stretch Cotton Blend Pants

Princess Pearl Austrian Crystal Rhinestone Hair Tiara

Alternatively, for anyone who wants to take this up a notch, there is also the dapper “detective,” who still hasn’t been formally identified.
But his suave menswear look spawned a thousand memes, and you can recreate the look with some of the pieces below. Bonus points if you can find a French police officer costume and someone to do proper side-eye.
