Thérèsa Ryan-van Graan, whose recent credits include Oliver Hermanus The History of Sound with Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor, has joined Gail Egan and Andrea Calderwood’s Potboiler as producer and head of physical production.
In her new role she will work on all projects being put together at the London-based production house behind some 60 features and TV series, including Oscar and Bafta-winning films The Last King Of Scotland and The Constant Gardener, as well as develop her own slate under the Potboiler umbrella.
Ryan-van Graan is Hermanus’ long-time producer. Aside from The History of Soundwhich premiered In Competition in Cannes and made its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival, Ryan-van Graan and Hermanus previously worked together on Endless River, Moffie and Mary & George.
Calderwood’s recent credits include Lynne Ramsay’s Die My Lovestarring Jennifer Lawrence, which also debuted in Cannes, while Egan is in post-production on the television adaptation of Tom Bradby’s Secret Servicea five part political thriller for ITVX.
Prior to her work with Hermanus, Ryan-van Graan was head of physical production at South African international service company Moonlighting Films, facilitating a range of projects shooting across the African continent, including Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Eye in the Sky, Invictus, Homeland and Mad Max: Fury Road.
As a South African/UK dual national, van Graan relocated to the UK in 2021, where she worked with Hermanus again on his television debut, Mary & Georgestarring Julianne Moore, for SKY/AMC.
This was followed shortly after by working alongside Calderwood on Grammy Award-winner K’naan Warsame’s Somali-language debut feature film Mother Motherwhich filmed in Somalia and Kenya and won the FIPRESCI Award at TIFF 2024.
